“Ylosea…” Reuben murmured the name of the city, “The old place.”
Callie didn’t catch it, “What?”
“Nothing.” Reuben looked up, worried, “Did he know you brought me here? If you acted on your own, it might upset him.”
At this, Callie understood what Reuben was worried about and laughed, “Reuben, you’re overthinking. It was his idea to have me bring you over. He’ll be happy you’re here.”
Reuben was half convinced, “I’ve met that kid a few times. He’s someone destined for great things, more cautious and steady than that guy you knew in college.”
“Being around someone like that, you must have had a hard time.”
Nelson was destined to shine, attracting many envious eyes. As his wife, Callie would undoubtedly face a lot of targeting.
Reuben was a smart man and saw things clearly.
“They say you’re sick and not quite right in the head, but I think you’re pretty sharp, figuring all this out.” Callie teased, propping her head up.
Reuben immediately protested, pushing her lightly, “I’m serious!”
“No, no.” Callie took his mottled hand in hers, “Just stay here peacefully so I can see you every day and be at ease. There’s nothing else to worry about.”
Reuben studied her for a while and saw she wasn’t just putting on a brave face, which reassured him somewhat.
After comforting her father, Callie returned to the master bedroom and video-called Nelson. It rang for ten seconds before he answered from the car.
“Am I bothering you at this hour?” Callie lay on the bed.
“No, just finished socializing and heading back to the hotel.” Nelson’s tired expression softened when he saw her.
Callie nodded and told him she had brought Reuben to Paucaster Villa.
“That’s good. Shamar is at the end of his rope and might target your father.”
Callie held her face in her hands, “Shamar, would he really turn to Jaquan? No matter what, there’s still some enmity between him and Scott Group.”
“In this world, no one relies entirely on another; it’s all about mutual use.” Nelson said calmly from the other end, “I’ll probably stay in Anbusea for three days.”
“A day apart feels like three years.” Callie smiled.
Nelson chuckled, “Where did you learn that?”
“From the heart.”
They chatted for a while before ending the call. Nelson put his phone aside, his physical fatigue disappearing. Looking up, he saw a bustling mall not far away.
“Mr. Oconnor, it’s the Quinn family’s S&A opening here.”
A gleam flashed in Nelson’s eyes, “Let’s go in and pick a gift for my wife.”
Anthony shivered at the coldness in his words. Choosing a gift from his wife’s ex-boyfriend’s place-Mr. Oconnor certainly had unique tastes.
The Quinn family rarely ventured into physical businesses; this was their first attempt, opening on their own turf as a trial run.
They had hired a famous foreign designer for the project. The overall design was curved, with most of the stores inside being high-end luxury brands, indicating the Quinn family’s extensive connections.
The mall was packed with people. At the center, an opening ceremony was taking place. A tall man in a white suit held a microphone and spoke, “Welcome to S&A. We look forward to your continued support.”
Thunderous applause followed.
The attendees were mostly wealthy socialites with significant spending power.
“I’ve heard the eldest son of the Quinn family returned to Anbusea. Didn’t expect to actually see him here.”
