Chapter 630: Staying at the Construction Site

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-2-7

After submitting the draft to Scott Group and getting approval, the construction team began working intensively.
Callie wanted to avoid suspicion and initially thought of letting Regan oversee the project. However, since she had personally drawn the plans and Regan was tied up with the Ellison family, Callie couldn’t trouble her.
She had to oversee it herself.
After all, for such a project, Jaquan probably wouldn’t come in person.
Nelson knew she needed to be busy with the studio. There had been similar instances before, but he didn’t know this project was related to Scott Group, so he didn’t object. He was also busy with his own work.
Callie appreciated his understanding but didn’t tell him it was a Scott Group project.
If he knew, he wouldn’t have let her go. But since the plans were already drawn, it was her hard work.
So Callie spent her days at the construction site wearing a helmet, supervising the workers. A young woman, she managed to become the boss among the men. She had a good personality and strong abilities, so everyone listened to her.
Despite her small stature and soft voice, when she gave commands, her tone was firm and unyielding. “How can there be a mistake in this position? When the cement seals it up, it might as well seal your brain in too.”
“The plans are so clear. Do you have problems with your eyes or your brain?”
“Construction is serious business. Have you forgotten what happened to Oconnor Group? I’m telling you, because of construction issues, Oconnor Group is still struggling. If you don’t want Scott Group to end up like that, be serious. Think of it as being responsible to Mr. Scott.”
Standing under the sun with no regard for her appearance, Callie scolded while holding the plans, even using Oconnor Group as a warning.
The burly supervisors didn’t dare say a word. No one expected this young girl to have such a commanding presence.
Soon, everyone knew that the designer of this project was a tough woman.
When the news reached Jaquan’s ears, he had just finished a meeting.
Mikayla added, “Mrs. Oconnor is in charge of the project, the one collaborating with the higher-ups.”
Jaquan paused and then looked sideways. “I remember you never used to call her Mrs. Oconnor.”
Mikayla hesitated. “Mr. Scott, that’s all in the past.”
Now Nelson had changed his usual style, bringing Callie along openly and even taking her to the year-end meetings, showing her importance.
This marriage was unchangeable.
In the past, Mikayla thought there was a slight chance. Now, it was impossible between Callie and Jaquan.
“What’s my schedule for the afternoon?”
Mikayla quickly checked. “Mrs. Scott has arranged for you to visit the Ellison family. Mr. Ellison’s old illness has flared up.”
“What time?”
“Around two o’clock.”
“That’s enough.” Jaquan handed him the documents. “I’m going out for a while.”
“Uh…” Mikayla’s voice lowered. “Not even staying for lunch?”
The food at the construction site wasn’t good. Callie ate boxed lunches with the workers. After spending so much time together, everyone knew Callie was just concerned about the quality of the project and was actually a nice girl, so they talked more.
“Isn’t it tough working on a construction site?”
“It’s tough,” Callie nodded. “But this is my job, and I’m used to it.”
“Nowadays, there aren’t many hardworking girls like you. Most college graduates want office jobs; few women are willing to do construction.” The worker with a sunburned face and a bright smile was Elisha, a foreman.
“Elisha, I’m also a girl, and I’m here under the sun too,” Eliza, who had been following Callie on this project, said discontentedly.
