“I have no reason to do that. Once she knows you suspect me first, it won’t benefit me.”
The sound of high heels stepping into a puddle was pleasing to the ear.
Nelson walked straight ahead. Kieran opened the car door, and Nelson turned slightly, “You don’t look good in white. Don’t wear it again.”
The meaning in his words was clear, and Charlotte was momentarily stunned.
Nelson got into the car and rolled down the window halfway, “I want to see you at Club Paradise in half an hour.”
The car sped away; he had no intention of letting her in.
Charlotte stood in the wind, like a drifting white rose.
She hugged her arms tightly and quickly took out her phone to call a cab. However, due to the unique location of Azure Ocean Villa, no cars usually passed by. She had to walk in her high heels.
The asphalt road was long, and Charlotte’s feet were aching. She still couldn’t get a cab.
Nelson did it on purpose.
She walked for fifteen minutes before finally getting a cab. The driver looked at her in surprise, “Miss, you look quite a mess.”
Charlotte wasn’t in the mood to talk. She was full of fear, “Quick, take me to Club Paradise. Can we get there in fifteen minutes?”
“Fifteen minutes? It’ll take at least half an hour, especially with the traffic now.”
“No, it has to be fifteen minutes. Please, I’ll pay extra.”
Since their last meeting, Bridger hadn’t seen Nelson for a long time. He knew Nelson still resented him for hiding the truth about Callie’s accident.
“Got a social event today?” Bridger asked cautiously.
“Book a private room,” Nelson said with a frown.
About forty minutes later, Charlotte arrived.
Her white dress was stained with mud and her makeup was mostly ruined. She carefully pushed open the door to the private room, greeted by a dazzling scene.
“Mr. Oconnor…” she shrank back, looking at the man in the main seat.
Nelson didn’t move, but the man beside him waved her over, “Such a pitiful sight, come in.”
Bridger was intrigued and poured her a drink, motioning for her to sit next to him, “What’s your name?”
Charlotte glanced at Nelson, “Charlotte.”
“Sounds familiar. Why haven’t I seen you before?”
“… I used to be with Mr. Scott.”
Jaquan’s place was their rival’s territory, so naturally, they wouldn’t have met.
“You look young,” Bridger laughed and handed her a drink, “Can you dance?”
Everyone quieted down as soon as Bridger spoke and then started whistling and cheering.
Nelson remained expressionless, holding a glass of wine. His hand moved slightly, causing the liquid to ripple.
Charlotte bit her lip, “I can.”
The cheers grew louder.
Charlotte could indeed dance. Though it was a bit messy, her youth and flexibility made it look good.
Nelson squinted his eyes while Bridger watched his expression closely.
“What’s going on? Don’t tell me you fancy her.”
“Does Callie know?”
Mentioning Callie made Nelson feel tainted, “Don’t mention her in such a place!”
Charlotte finished dancing. Bridger handed her a drink, “Drink it.”
She hesitated for a moment but took the glass.
Nelson’s tongue pressed against his cheek.
Charlotte tilted her head back and drank it all in one go. Her neck extended, and the liquid slid down her throat in a perfect arc.
“Thank you for the drink,” she then looked at Nelson, “Mr. Oconnor, you really misunderstood me.”
Nelson remained silent. Bridger spoke first, “Why talk to him? He’s married. Talk to me instead. Name your price and come with me.”
