He opened the video and saw the events he had once experienced replaying before his eyes.
After watching, he finally understood Callie’s unusual behavior. He gently tossed his phone aside and looked at the woman in front of him. “Back in Afupshire, I thought it was you. The video here is incomplete. Later, I realized she wasn’t you and immediately stopped.”
“I had Anthony check the surveillance.”
He explained nervously, but the honesty in his eyes was genuine.
Callie nodded. “So, all of this really happened.”
Nelson remained silent.
“I thought that a man who proposed to me in a car to win me back wouldn’t be someone who cheats. So when I saw this, my first reaction was that someone had doctored the images to sow discord. I chose to believe you. To investigate thoroughly, I went to Scott Group.”
Callie spoke, feeling exhausted and unable to hold back her frustration.
“Even if you did do it, there’s nothing I could do. A man like you isn’t someone I can control. Everyone thinks we’re not equals, right?”
She showed a look of resignation, which made Nelson feel heartbroken. He repeated almost helplessly, “I didn’t go all the way with her. The content in this video shows everything that happened. I pushed her away afterward.”
Without evidence, it was hard to make anyone believe.
However, Callie nodded. “I believe you.”
Nelson frowned but did not relax.
“Who is this woman?”
Nelson hesitated for three seconds before answering, “Charlotte.”
In that moment of hesitation, Callie suddenly felt it didn’t matter who she was. Her voice began to tremble. “You just… didn’t want to tell me.”
Nelson’s frown deepened, and he quickly replied, “I was afraid you’d overthink it.”
“If nothing really happened, why would I overthink? It’s your attitude that makes me overthink!” Callie could no longer hold back; those three seconds of hesitation made her lose control.
“Afupshire, those days in Afupshire… Let me think about what I was doing. I was in the hospital performing surgery… No, I had already returned to Ylosea. I was begging Ahmad for Oconnor Group. Nelson, what were you doing?”
Her tears fell uncontrollably. The thought of their unequal efforts at the same time tore at her heart.
“Callie, listen to me.” Nelson immediately stepped forward and held her tightly. The veins on the back of his hand bulged as he tried to calm himself down. “I can explain this. I can find evidence to prove my innocence. I don’t expect you to believe me; I just hope you’ll give me a chance to clear things up, okay?”
Facing his lover’s pain, his heart was in turmoil. He was terrified of losing Callie…
Callie slowly calmed down in his embrace as he repeatedly said, “Leave it to me. I’ll handle it. Trust me.”
She closed her eyes in despair, unwilling to think any further.
“Please leave. I want to rest.”
In fact, before she spoke out loud, she could pretend nothing had happened and even analyze the situation rationally. She could guess that someone was behind this and was willing to believe Nelson.
But after being honest with him, she suddenly couldn’t hold it together anymore, feeling an overwhelming sense of grievance.
Nelson gently closed the door and strode downstairs.
Anthony, who had been waiting, was startled when he saw Nelson’s red eyes and grim expression. “Mr. Oconnor?”
