No one knew how much time had passed, but eventually, Audrey couldn’t hold on and fell asleep at the table.
When she woke up, she realized she was cold, so she instinctively moved to the bed. Looking at Kayden sleeping soundly, she couldn’t help but sigh in frustration before sitting down angrily.
She had planned to kill Kayden, but when she thought about the missing knife, she hesitated. Slowly lying down, she considered her options. Strangling him with her bare hands wasn’t realistic-there was no way she had the strength to kill him.
“Maybe I should wait a little longer,” she thought. She was too exhausted, the kind of tired where simply touching a bed could lull her to sleep.
“Hey!” she said as she lay down, unable to resist adding, “Don’t you dare try anything!”
But as soon as the words left her mouth, she drifted off into a deep sleep.
—
The next morning, Audrey was woken up by Kayden’s voice. He called her several times before she groggily opened her eyes.
When she finally woke up and saw Kayden as the first person in front of her, she shot up in bed instantly.
“You-you-you! How could you?!” Audrey stammered, furious, glaring at him.
Kayden looked confused. “What did I do?”
“Did you… did you do something to me last night?” she demanded, her mind flashing back to his reaction the previous evening. The thought made her panic.
Kayden let out a cold laugh, walked to a chair by the table, and sat down casually. “You? A wannabe assassin? You’re probably the worst one I’ve ever seen. You ended up sleeping in the same bed as the person you came to kill! If I’d wanted to do anything to you last night, it would’ve been as easy as flipping my hand. You were practically offering yourself up.”
“Ridiculous!” Audrey snapped defensively. “This is my house! I’ll sleep wherever I want! Don’t think for a second that I wanted to sleep beside you. My revenge will come, but last night… I was just too tired, that’s all!”
Kayden raised an eyebrow but said nothing, completely at a loss for words. This so-called “assassin” was beyond baffling.
After getting dressed, Audrey shot him a fierce glare. “Let me make one thing clear: you better not tell anyone about what happened last night! If you dare, I won’t forgive you!”
With that, she stormed out of the room in a fit of rage.
She felt utterly humiliated. She’d come to kill her enemy, only to end up sharing a bed with him. For someone like Audrey, who prided herself on being a “killer,” this was an unprecedented disgrace.
Once she was outside, she muttered furiously to herself, “One day, I’ll make him pay in blood!”

That afternoon, Kayden received a call from Leah. Seeing her name on the screen, he paused briefly, realizing it had been quite some time since he’d contacted Georgia.
Kayden had always been the type to focus solely on his tasks. When he wasn’t working, he’d be lost in thought or training his body. Unlike the younger generation, who often filled their idle moments by playing on their phones or reaching out to others, Kayden had no such habits.
Lately, he’d been so preoccupied with everything that he had completely neglected Georgia’s feelings. Letting out a sigh, he answered the call.
“Kayden! Kayden, where are you? I’m in Inassea! Something’s happened. Can you come help me? Or send someone to help, please!” Leah’s soft, anxious voice came through the line.
“Inassea?” Kayden asked, stunned. “What’s wrong? Where exactly are you in Inassea? I’m here too.”
“You’re really in Inassea?” Leah sounded overjoyed. “I’m at Inassea Medical College. Please come quickly!”
“Alright, I’ll be there right away,” Kayden replied without hesitation. He hung up and immediately headed out.
Leah was Georgia’s younger sister. Though she was mischievous at times, she was Georgia’s only sibling, and Kayden couldn’t ignore her plea for help.
Soon, he hailed a cab and arrived at Inassea Medical College. The university was large, and when he reached the entrance, the security guard stopped him. The guard told him he couldn’t enter without someone coming to fetch him.
Kayden didn’t argue-he understood the man was just doing his job. Taking out his phone, he tried calling Leah again, but her phone was already turned off.
A sense of unease washed over him. Had something happened to Leah? Were those people targeting his family?
No, that didn’t make sense. If they were going after his family, why not go after Georgia first? Leah wasn’t the obvious target.
As he stood there, lost in thought, the school bell rang, and a stream of students began pouring out of the campus.
Just as he was about to try calling Leah again, a woman’s voice suddenly rang out behind him.
“You creep! Why are you following me all the way to school?”
Kayden turned around, his call still unanswered, and saw Audrey.
Today, she was wearing a sharp black suit, paired with sheer black stockings and high heels. Her wavy hair, with its faint blonde highlights, framed her face perfectly. She was stunning, an absolute knockout standing there at the school entrance.
Kayden blinked, momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected to see Audrey here of all places.
Audrey, noticing the surprise in his eyes, immediately scowled. So, he really had followed her here! What a shameless man!
Audrey was an intern teacher at this school, having started her position earlier that year.
She glared at Kayden and scoffed. “What’s this? Are you going to pretend it’s just a coincidence? That you just happened to be here? And then what? Ask me out for dinner again?”
“Let me tell you, that’s the oldest trick in the book. I’ll never feel anything for you! You’re my enemy-you killed my brother. Don’t think for a second that just because I accidentally slept next to you last night, I’ll start liking you.”
Kayden sighed and replied calmly, “I’m not here for you.”
Audrey laughed coldly. “Of course you’d say that! Now that I’ve seen through your little act, you have no choice but to deny it. Otherwise, how would you save face?”
Kayden was speechless. Audrey’s self-importance was truly something else.
But she was a woman, and he didn’t want to argue with her. “I already told you-I’m not here for you.”
“Oh really?” Audrey challenged. “Then tell me, who are you here for? I’d love to see who it is you know at this school.”
