Chapter 432: Cure the Cancer!

Book:Back To Thrones Published:2025-2-7

“Exactly! If you could actually cure cancer, you wouldn’t be standing here begging us to save a life. And you certainly wouldn’t be dressed like that!”
“That’s right! If curing cancer was truly within your reach, you’d already have a Nobel Prize in Medicine hanging on your wall! No, wait-you’d have a Lifetime Achievement Award on top of that! You’d be a legend, celebrated in the highest echelons of the medical world.”
“Hah! Can’t you see he’s just blowing hot air? Don’t tell me you actually believe his nonsense.”
There was a brief silence.
These doctors all felt furious to see anyone who had acquired only a smattering of medicine but kept boasting. They couldn’t contain their disdain any longer, and their words dripped with scorn.
And honestly? Their reaction was natural. Anyone making such wild, self-aggrandizing claims in front of seasoned experts was practically asking for verbal abuse.
But Kayden remained indifferent. To him, these so-called experts were nothing more than noisy, ignorant trash!
They weren’t worth a second glance, let alone a response!
As Amelia noticed Kayden’s calm, almost dismissive demeanor, her lips curled into a provocative smirk. She crossed her arms and said with exaggerated confidence, “If you can actually cure cancer, I’ll do more than apologize to you. I’ll get on my knees and bow before you!”
As if to emphasize her disbelief, Amelia crossed her arms again and let out a snort. To her, this was all absurd. If Kayden truly had the ability to cure cancer, why would he waste his time in a hospital, paying for surgery like anyone else?
The truth was obvious he was just putting on a show!
Kayden turned to Amelia and fixed her with a cold, amused smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “That won’t be necessary. You’re not worthy of kneeling before me!”
As he spoke, his hand slid into his pocket. Moments later, he pulled out a small red bottle. Without hesitation, he unscrewed the lid and tipped out a single black pill.
The sharp scent of herbs immediately filled the air, catching everyone’s attention. Even those farthest away couldn’t ignore the potent aroma!
Though the scent was striking, the pill itself seemed ordinary. It was a round, unassuming black sphere.
In today’s world, countless machines can easily produce pills like this. They’re so common, so mass-produced, that they’ve become utterly unremarkable to the average person.
But little did they know, this pill was nothing like those. It had been meticulously crafted by Kayden himself!
Yes, he crafted it himself!
This wasn’t mechanical production. This was the art of refinement, where raw ingredients like herbs were transformed. And in this process, he needed to use his inner strength.
It was an ancient method, much like how legendary apothecaries of old would throw rare medicinal herbs into a bubbling cauldron, burning away impurities to extract the purest, most potent essence.
And in the modern world, this pill was beyond value. Even if it were priced at one billion, people would fight tooth and nail to possess it.
A pill like this transcended any other precious treasures in the world.
Holding the black pill between his fingers, Kayden turned toward Felicity. His eyes met hers with calm certainty. “Give this to your mother. Once she takes it, her illness will be completely cured.”
Originally, Kayden had intended to wait until after Felicity’s mother completed her surgery. He’d planned to let her take the pill discreetly afterward, then let the hospital take credit for her miraculous recovery. That way, it would all seem like the triumph of modern medicine. But now? He had changed his mind.
This hospital didn’t deserve such glory. They weren’t worthy of the acclaim that would come with curing cancer.
And more importantly, he didn’t want the situation to spiral out of control any further. Prolonging this only added to Felicity’s suffering, and he couldn’t bear to see that.
So, he had made his decision. He would act now and save her mother, consequences be damned.
Even if it meant defying the natural order of things, he would heal her mother. Because Felicity was no ordinary girl. She was someone worth bending the rules for.
The moment Felicity saw the pill, her breath hitched. Her lips parted slightly in astonishment as she stared, wide-eyed, at Kayden.
She didn’t reach out to take it. Her fingers stayed frozen at her sides, and her gaze flicked between Kayden’s face and the black pill. It was as though her mind refused to process what was happening.
Felicity wasn’t naive. She understood better than anyone how grave her mother’s condition was. Terminal. The word had rung in her ears for months. Even with surgery, her mother might only gain a few extra years, at best. And now, here was Kayden, holding out this pill and claiming that it could cure her mother. It sounded… so ridiculous.
Noticing her hesitation, Kayden raised a questioning eyebrow. “What’s wrong? You don’t trust me?”
Felicity quickly shook her head. “No, I do trust you. It’s just…”
“Don’t worry!” Kayden’s voice brimmed with unshakable confidence. “This pill can cure every cancer in the world! It’s a panacea. Actually, it can cure not just cancers, but whatever illness in the world, no matter how deadly it is.”
Amelia couldn’t hold back any longer. She burst into laughter, this time louder and more carefree. She didn’t even bother to conceal her mockery. Yet her beauty seemed to shine brighter when she smiled.
“Are you kidding me? Can you be any more absurd? A pill that cures everything? I bet that’s poison, not medicine!”
Her contempt was deliberate. She couldn’t stand Kayden’s overconfident demeanor and relished the chance to tear down his confidence.
Felicity, hearing this, frowned slightly. Her gaze grew sharp as she fixed Amelia with a glare. Then, she said in a calm but resolute voice, “Kayden, I believe you!”
Without hesitation, she reached out and took the small black pill from his hand.
But deep down, did Felicity really believe Kayden?
No!
This wasn’t about trust or faith because it was nearly impossible to believe. Her mother was dying of late-stage stomach cancer, a disease that had defeated every known cure. How could Kayden possibly do what the entire world could not?
And yet, she had to say she believed him!
If even she, Kayden’s closest ally at this moment, didn’t stand by him, then who would?
Whether Kayden was trying to preserve his dignity or genuinely offering a miracle, Felicity refused to let him face this alone. She was determined to follow his lead, no matter how crazy it seemed.
After all, Kayden was putting up this fight against everyone for the sake of her mother. To abandon him now? That would make her feel ashamed of herself.
So, she had to believe in him. Even if it was just a performance, she would act it to the end.
And she believed Kayden would never harm her mother!
When Amelia saw Felicity take the pill, her face froze for a moment. But it was quickly replaced by a shake of her head and a scoff. “You’re insane. Both of you! You’re absolutely insane!”
Felicity held the pill carefully. She turned and walked to her mother’s side, lowering herself slightly to meet her mother’s eyes. Gently, but firmly, she extended the pill toward her mother. “Mom, take it.”
Mona froze. Her wide eyes darted between Kayden and the small black pill resting in Felicity’s hand.
Mona knew all too well that these people were united against her and her daughter! Out of everyone, only this young man had dared to stand up for them, to shield them from the storm. If she faltered now, if she gave up without a fight, she would betray not only herself but also this young man’s unwavering support.
So now, even if the pill in front of her were poison, she would swallow it without a second thought.
Not for herself, for this young man, for his dignity!
With this conviction burning in her heart, Mona took the pill without so much as blinking. She raised the pill to her lips, prepared to swallow it in one bold motion.
“Wait!” Just as she was about to let it slide down her throat, a sharp voice rang out, cutting through the tension like a blade.
The shout startled everyone, freezing them in place. All eyes turned toward the source of the voice.
The speaker was a middle-aged doctor standing behind Dr. Adler. Fat and in his fifties, he exuded authority, likely a department director or even a deputy dean.
His face was puffed with a mix of indignation and skepticism as he spoke. “He said that’s a pill! But who knows what it really is? It could be medicine, or it could be poison! If it’s poison, and she dies in our hospital, do you think they’ll come after us for compensation?”
His words landed with the force of a hammer, shattering the tense atmosphere. A buzz of murmurs swept through the room as unease rippled outward.
“He’s right! What if it’s poison? If she dies here, the hospital would be caught in a nightmare. These two might just be con artists trying to murder this terminally ill woman and then scam the hospital for money!”
“Exactly! This sort of thing has happened before!”
The accusation fell like a spark on dry grass, igniting a wildfire of suspicion. The room erupted into a cacophony of doubt and whispers.
