Amelia let out a burst of scornful laughter after hearing the concerns. “Oh, isn’t that obvious? Those three are definitely thinking exactly that! Once someone dies, they’ll twist the truth to fit their story, go crying to the media, stir up drama, and eventually squeeze you out of a fortune! Millions, at least. And who bears the brunt in the end? The hospital! What’s on their mind is anybody’s guess, but trust me, for the sake of money, some will do anything.”
Dr. Adler’s expression froze as realization struck him!
That could really happen! If someone actually died in the hospital, no matter how much they explained, it would fall on deaf ears.
Though Dr. Adler respected Kayden as his Grand Master and he appreciated Kayden’s brilliant mind…
He wasn’t one hundred percent sure of Kayden’s personality. What if Kayden really got tempted by money and tried to commit fraud?
With a conflicted sigh, Dr. Adler finally spoke. “Grand Master, the concern isn’t unfounded. If anything happens to this lady, rumors will go wildly and the hospital will be dragged to the center of controversy.”
Kayden interrupted him with icy calm. “So, this is how far you think humanity has fallen? That everyone’s integrity is for sale?”
Dr. Adler winced, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. “Well, it’s just… We’ve been burned by situations like this before…”
Sensing the tension in the room, Mona hurriedly said, “You don’t have to worry about that. We’re honest folk, and we could never pull something so shameless. Even if this medicine turns out to be poison and I die today, my daughter won’t hold the hospital accountable.”
Before anyone could stop her, Mona grabbed the black pill and swallowed it in one fluid motion.
For a moment, time seemed to stop. Everyone stood frozen, their breath caught in their throats. The earlier clamor faded away, replaced by a thick, suffocating silence that filled the air.
“Mom! How do you feel?” Felicity asked in a trembling voice, and her heartbeat pounded like thunder.
Standing off to the side, Kayden was as calm as ever. “Relax,” he said evenly. “Five minutes. That’s all it’ll take for the pill to work and then she’ll be ready to leave the hospital.”
“Hah! What a joke!” Amelia sneered, her nose held high as she eyed him with open disdain. “What do you think you’re selling, huh? A cure-all miracle? Five minutes for a full recovery? What utter nonsense!”
Kayden didn’t even glance at her. He stood in serene silence, dismissing her taunts without a word as if they weren’t worth his time.
The doctors standing behind exchanged smug glances, and their eyes all brimmed with scorn. “This guy really didn’t know when to stop bragging!” they thought. They were all waiting to see how Kayden’s lies would be exposed.
“Five minutes? Fine, let’s give him five minutes!” they thought.
The seconds ticked by, and soon enough, the five minutes were up.
“How are you feeling, Mom?” Felicity asked, her voice tight with anxiety and worry. She leaned in toward her mother.
Mona suddenly furrowed her brows. She had been lying there moments ago, frail and lifeless. But now a subtle shift in her body caught everyone’s attention. It seemed she had regained her energy and was no longer that vulnerable. She could even sit up on her own.
She remained silent, though her expression suggested she still felt kind of uncomfortable.
“Wait, is this medicine really working in just five minutes?”
“Could he actually have a cure for cancer?”
“Five minutes to cure cancer? That’s beyond unbelievable!”
“If this is real, it would shake the world to its core!”
The same doctors who had mocked Kayden moments earlier were now whispering amongst themselves. Their astonishment overpowered their earlier skepticism.
Even Amelia’s arrogant facade began to crack. Her eyes locked onto Felicity’s mother, unable to look away. Could it really be true? Could this man have created a miracle cure for cancer?
And if this pill could cure stomach cancer… could it save her father from liver cancer, too?
But just as a glimmer of hope began to surface, a sound of cough sliced through the silence and interrupted Amelia’s thoughts.
All heads snapped toward Felicity’s mother as she suddenly spat out a mouthful of fresh, crimson blood. Her body convulsed violently. Her face turned a ghastly, ashen blue, and her lips darkened into a chilling shade of purple!
“Mom! Mom, what’s wrong? What’s happening?!” Felicity cried out, her voice quivering with raw panic. She clutched her mother tightly, and her tears spilled over. She felt so terrified because she had no idea what was happening and if her mother was going to lose her life.
Amelia’s chest heaved as she exhaled a long, trembling sigh of relief. Her lips curled into a faint, sardonic smile, and she wiped a bead of sweat from her brow.
Just moments ago, when Felicity’s mother miraculously sat up in bed, Amelia’s emotions surged like a storm. She was both stunned and overjoyed. Stunned that the black pill had genuinely cured cancer, and overjoyed at the glimmer of hope it brought. If it could cure cancer, could it mean her father’s recovery wasn’t just a dream?
Now Amelia felt a sense of relief because this outcome was what she’d anticipated. In fact, if the pill hadn’t worked, it might have been easier to accept. After all, if this pill truly worked, she might have to humble herself before that man.
She might even have to kneel, bow, and admit she’d been wrong all along.
The very thought made her scoff. Her arms crossed tightly over her chest. A cold smile curled her lips as she spoke, “Isn’t it obvious? She’s clearly been poisoned! Look at her trembling like that and gosh, her face turned that ghastly shade. If it’s not poison, what else could it be? That pill was nothing but toxic! Didn’t I say it earlier? They’re using underhanded schemes like this to blackmail the hospital. Just watch! They’ll bring in a horde of shady reporters soon enough. Then, the media will twist the truth, spinning lies into headlines. And if the hospital doesn’t pay, you’ll all be branded as heartless, greedy monsters.”
Amelia stood by with smug certainty as she watched Felicity’s mother slump weakly back into her daughter’s arms. She had seen this sort of ploy too many times to count. It was as predictable to her as the sunrise.
Her words left the hospital staff frozen in shock. They looked at one another with unease and panic eyes. They were unsure of how to deal with such a situation.
But amidst the silence, one doctor stepped forward, holding up his phone like a shield. “No need to worry,” he said. “I’ve been recording everything from the start. Whatever they’re planning, it won’t work. We’ve got proof.”
At this point, nothing anyone said could reach Felicity. Her focus was solely on her mother, who was now lying in her arms. Her mother’s body shook violently, and Felicity’s own hands quivered as she tried to steady her. Fighting to stay composed, she gently wiped away the thin streak of blood trailing from the corner of her mother’s lips.
“Mom, how are you feeling now?” she asked, her voice thick with panic.
Her mother couldn’t answer. She just couldn’t stop trembling.
Felicity lifted her head anxiously to look at Kayden. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Kayden, what’s happening? Why is my mom trembling like this?”
There was no hint of blame in her ton, just a desperate need to get an explanation.
Kayden turned calmly, casting a measured glance at Felicity’s mother. His voice was steady and composed as he explained, “Don’t worry. This is a perfectly normal reaction. The medicine has already begun its work, restoring her body’s functions. Right now, it’s attacking the cancer cells and consuming them. In thirty seconds, the cancer cells will be eradicated. After that, she’ll be fine, and you can take her home.”
Amelia let out a derisive scoff. “Still spouting nonsense, aren’t you?” Her gaze bore into Kayden with a piercing, domineering force.
But Kayden didn’t even bother responding to her or even sparing her a glance. In his eyes, Amelia might have been breathtakingly beautiful, but her self-absorbed arrogance made her presence unbearable to him.
Amelia’s face darkened at his lack of reaction. Annoyed, she turned to Dr. Adler, who had been silent and wearing a serious look. “Dr. Adler,” Amelia pressed, her voice laced with challenge. “You don’t actually believe a word of what he just said, do you?”
Dr. Adler adjusted his glasses. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, Felicity’s mother suddenly coughed violently, spewing a mouthful of fresh blood.
And this time after she spewed the blood, something weird happened!
