With that said, Mona sighed.
“Mom! What are you talking about? He and I are really just friends,” Felicity said with a blush.
“Alas!” Mona sighed and said, “Of course, I know you are friends, but if I can entrust you to a reliable friend before I leave the world, I’ll have nothing to worry about!”
She knew her daughter and wasn’t expecting much.
So she said in a serious tone, ”My daughter, you must know that you should be content with what you are given! Although I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with him, that is a dependable young man! You must not ask for too much. As long as he can treat you as a friend, that’s enough! I’m sure he’ll at least feel sorry for you.”
“Mom, what are you talking about? I’ve got the money. You’ll be fine! The doctor said that you’ll be fine after the surgery! Don’t worry, you will definitely get better,” Felicity said with confidence.
She wasn’t going to have her mother leave her forever!
Mona shook her head and said, “No, honey. I know how I’m doing. Besides, if we have the money for the surgery, I want you to keep it for yourself. You are the one thing I’m worried about. I don’t know what kind of sin I must have done in my previous life that left you such a hideous birthmark. If you didn’t have it, you would definitely be a beauty.”
Mona raised her hand to touch Felicity’s birthmark with her eyes full of tears.
Mona had always blamed herself because of the birthmark on her daughter’s face. She thought it was her fault and that she failed her daughter.
So, even if they had a hard life, she always gave her daughter the best.
Like all moms, she loves and cares about her daughter.
“Mom! How can I blame you for this? You raised me up and I’m grateful! Let me pay you back! Don’t worry, I’ll make money. Enough money we can live a good life,” Felicity said.
Mona was moved and took Felicity into her arms.
Kayden was able to get Mona a double room.
This hospital did not have single rooms, only double rooms, because the owner wanted the patients to have companions.
Some terminally-ill patients might lose the will to live, and having someone to talk to might help. Some patients might jump off the building when alone.
So it was a smart policy.
The double ward was spacious and quiet.
Mona was against moving here for fear of the expense, but Kayden insisted on taking her here.
After arriving in the double room, Mona found that she was the only patient there.
After being arranged on the new bed, Mona looked around with a timid look on her face, then she turned to Kayden and asked, “This must have cost a lot of money, I’m afraid?”
Kayden smiled, “Money is not a problem, the important thing is for you to get well.”
It was a very thoughtful remark. The reason why he was so nice to Mona was that she was the only family to Felicity now. And if she died, Felicity might lose the will to live.
It would be a pity if the Innate Spiritual Body was gone like that.
Therefore, he had to protect it.
“I don’t think it’s necessary. I actually think the original ward is fine!”
Kayden helped Mona up and shook his head, “No. That place is no place to get well.”
Mona was about to say something more but was cut off by Kayden, “Don’t worry about money. Just focus on your recovery. I’ll take care of everything else.”
Felicity couldn’t help but feel butterflies in her stomach as she saw how Kayden treated her mother.
She re-examined Kayden. They had known each other for only a few hours and he collected the debts for her and visited her mother in the hospital. Did he like her?
Otherwise, how could he be so nice to her?
The only explanation was that he liked her!
But, why would he like her? For a guy like him, there were plenty of women out there to pick from.
Just as she was filled with thoughts, Kayden said to her, “Felicity, go ahead and pay for your mom’s surgery first.”
Kayden knew that Mona had stomach cancer and that modern medicine could only keep her alive, not cure her.
Kayden could cure it, and the only reason he didn’t was solely to follow the rules of nature. After the surgery, he would give Mona medicine to restore her stomach’s function.
After seeing Felicity leave, Mona sighed, looked at Kayden, and asked, “Your name is Kayden Scott, isn’t it?”
Kayden nodded his head and said, “Yes, ma’am.”
Mona’s eyes suddenly welled up with tears, and she cried, “What a waste of money! That money came hard! It’s a pity to waste it just like that!”
“How would Felicity live if that money was gone!”
Mona was so sad that tears flew out of her eyes.
Kayden said in a serious manner, “Don’t worry! Ma’am, trust me when I say you will be fine. Felicity can’t live without you, and you, too, can’t without her.”
Mona’s heart stuttered as she looked at Kayden, then she shook her head helplessly and said, “Child, I don’t want to leave Felicity. She’s lived a humble life for so long. I’m just really worried about her!”
“Don’t worry. You won’t die with me here!” Kayden replied decisively.
Mona was touched! She choked back a sob and said in a moved voice, “Thank you, child!”
“Ma’am, you don’t have to thank me. Now, you just need to rest and wait for the surgery.”
Mona shook her head, “No! Young man, I have something to say to you.”
She grabbed Kayden’s hand and said with a kind face, “I know how I am. Felicity is the one person I’m worried about. She has lived her life humbly and poorly without a friend by her side. It’s a relief to see that she doesn’t have to be so humble in front of you.”
“I wonder if you could take care of Felicity for me after I die. I know it’s too much to ask, but she’s never been so relaxed in front of anyone else. Consider me begging you, okay? I really want Felicity to live confidently with her head held high!”
