Diego’s POV
I returned to Nana’s ward and by the time I got up there, the doctors were out already. “What about her?” I asked, trying to restrain myself. It was all my fault. If I had just stayed back, I wouldn’t have gotten Nana involved in all of this.
“She is responding to treatments but she’s yet to be conscious. I can’t guarantee when she would be awake, and her responding to treatments might only be temporary because she sustained a shock during the shot.” The Doctor explained calmly and I wanted to plant my fist right in his face but yeah, what would it even change?
Without listening any further, I walked into Nana’s hospital room. There were calculated beeping sounds as I stepped in to look at her, different machines connected to get the body to keep her alive. I paused as I looked up at her trembling slightly.
“D-don’t tell me you’ll also leave me, Nana.” I choked, my body rooted to the spot and unable to move. I thought all this while, I have been able to protect Nana from the gaze of my enemies but I just failed miserably at it. I couldn’t even protect her.
“N-nana, wake up,” I mumbled, taking steps closer to her. The doctor might have brought fairly good news, but I just don’t know if I could live with myself if she ends up on the bad side of the news.
I didn’t know how long I stood there but a sudden bang from the door and panting brought me a bit closer to reality, but still, I didn’t turn my back to look at who it was. “There’s a problem, Don.” I heard Fernando’s voice panting. “Kamara has been kidnapped and we lost sight of her.”
It didn’t hit me hard at first. And why would I care if she was kidnapped? Nana. Nana loved her so much and not only that, she is carrying my child. I turned back to Fernando with an irritated glare. “Weren’t your men supposed to be keeping an eye on her?” I snarled, grabbing him by the collar roughly. “If anything happens to my child, I won’t hesitate to kill every single one of you. FIND HER! NOW!”
Fuck it all. Why did that woman have to get herself kidnapped at a time like this? Not only is something bad happening to Nana now, but also my child. “Tch.” I groaned, dashing out of the hospital towards my car. Without having a definite destination in mind, I drove off. “Vando just be behind this. These Mancini bastards have crossed the line and I’ll not stop until I execute every single one of those bastards.”
The first place I headed to. was Vando’s hotel barging into the building and without hesitation, I made my way up to his penthouse, hitting all the men in the way without stopping. “Where is that bastard?” I spat angrily, grabbing one of the men by his head, ready to smash him instantly.
“Boss isn’t here. I heard him say he had some business to attend to in the cliffside house. They were talking about something that was going to interest him. I swear, we know nothing more.” The man trembled as he spat out everything I needed.
Scum.
A bullet went straight into his head before I dashed back out, heading towards the cliffside mansion. The sky was cloudy and getting dark. It seemed it would rain at any moment now but I didn’t care. All I wanted was to get to that Vando and get rid of the bastard.
It took me just a minute to get into the mansion, heading towards the most guarded place while fighting off every damn man in my way. I was livid and wouldn’t let him get away with the shit thought of laying hands on what belonged to me.
I barged into the room, seeing him pulling away from a kiss from Kamara. She looked mortified and irritated, from where I stood, I could see the tears in her eyes. This was Kamara we were talking about. She would never shed a tear even if it was the end of the world.
“Get your fucking hands off her.” I snarled, not waiting for a response before charging him, grabbing his neck to connect a punch with his nose which cracked in an instant.
“Fuck, bastard.” He screamed in agony as his body made contact with the hard wooden floor.
“What gave you the balls to think you could do all you did and get away with it.” I snarled, cracking my knuckles as I stared down at him.
“If you fight me here, you’d have to face the rest of Brother’s army. Are you sure you want that? War for your petty little followers and those in your city?” Vando laughed mockingly, his hand covering his bleeding nose. “I never for once thought the almighty Diego would come so far to save a woman. You should see the despair on her face, knowing she wouldn’t be saved by you. How bad could you have treated her?”
Vando’s laughter echoed through the room, dripping with mockery. His dark eyes gleamed with twisted amusement and every fiber of my being burned with the urge to put a bullet through them.
“What’s wrong?” He taunted, tilting his head. “Did I hit a nerve?” His smirk widened, sick and perverse. “You ruined the fun by showing up but no matter. How about I tie you down and make you watch me fuck that bitch out of her mind. Maybe then, you’ll see how a real man does it.”
A cold rage snapped inside me. I’ve had enough.
Pulling out the gun from my holster without hesitation, before his next breath, a deafening bang rang through the room.
The bullet struck his leg, sending him crashing to the ground with a strangled groan. His face twisted in agony but then, he burst into laughter. “What’s this?” he gasped between pained chuckles, gripping his bleeding leg. “Tired of playing with fist fights, Diego? Or did you realize you can never get rid of me with your pathetic child’s play?”
I was done talking to this filth. My grip on my gun tightened as I took a step forward, ready to end him.
But then, I froze.
Kamara sat there, her eyes wide in terror, her breath coming in shallow gasps. Behind her, a man wrapped his arm around her throat, his other hand pressing a gun against her temple. Her muffled voice was shut out by the fabric covering her mouth.
“Go ahead, Don Diego,” the bastard sneered, pressing the gun harder against Kamara’s head. “Touch the boss and I’ll blow her fucking brains out.”
