Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2025-2-7

It has been a few days. Gabriella has been taking care of Melody and she never leaves her side. She ensures Melody is well and has been cared for very well. She knows her mental state is not stable right now.
So she will try everything to make her feel better.
But…
No matter what she did, Melody was always still the same. The girl will look outside the window, in deep thought, or cry alone at night. Gabriella keeps hearing her sniffling but decides not to butt in.
She thought maybe she needed her time to accept everything.
Without her knowing, Melody needs something. Or more specifically, she needs someone.
And that is…Damian, her husband.
“Melody, dear. I bought you your favourite dish,” Gabriella walks towards her with a container filled with food.
Flavio sitting there with them. He has been noticed Melody states since day one. He knows what this girl needs but his wife never thought of it. It makes his heartbreak to see his sweetest daughter-in-law like this.
“Here, let me feed you, sweetie,” Gabriella scoop some and try to feed her.
Instead of opening her mouth, Melody turns away.
“Hm? What’s wrong? Are you not hungry, sweetie?” She asks in confusion.
“Mum, where is Damian?” Melody asks.
The question made her stunned. Gabriella clears her throat, “He has work to do.”
“If that is so…then, where is the other? Why everyone is gone out of a sudden?” She furrows her eyebrows.
“Sweetie, you don’t need Damian. He is the cause of this. He is the one who made you lose the baby,” Gabriella confronts her.
Melody looks down, rubbing her stomach. Flavio let out a heavy sigh seeing the scene.
“If you were far away from him and the others, I believe you wouldn’t suffer in pain anymore,” Gabriella smiles.
She didn’t say anything. She pushes away the food gently earning a confused expression from Gabriella.
“I’m full. I want to sleep…” she mumbled as she lay down on the bed.
“Oh…okay, sweetie. I will put this on the desk. If you need anything, just call me, yeah?” Gabriella softly reminds her.
After she tucks her in the bed, Flavio grabs his wife’s arms. He dragged her out of the ward and closed the door.
“What the-honey, what’s wrong with you?” She frowns.
“I had enough of this. Don’t you see the look on her face, dear? She needs her husband. She needs Damian by her side,” he scolds.
Gabriella scoffs, “Yeah right. Don’t expect me to let her in that dangerous life again. I told you, our son is the one who ruined her life.”
“I know but that didn’t mean you can make them apart. They need each other. Don’t you see that?” Flavio frowns.
Gabriella looks at her from the small window on the door. She shakes her head, “I’m still on my words. No, means no.”
By that, she stomps off leaving her frustrated husband. He runs his palm hand over his face. He looks at the small window only to see his daughter-in-law staring at the blanket with a blank expression.
___
Damian stares at the invitation card. He had been staring at it for an hour and Matthew couldn’t stand it anymore.
“That card wouldn’t talk by itself, Dam,” Matthew voice out.
“I know that,” he glares at him before back to the card. “I just…think of something.”
“Are you thinking of going to that party?” Victor asks as he plays with his knife.
“Yes, I already said I’m going. It just…I wonder what he’s planning right now. Is he targeting me or Melody right now?” Damian sighs.
“If he’s targeting Melody, for what? Melody don’t have anything,” Matthew frowns.
Victor scoffs, “Dude, Melody is the suitable one to lure Damian into his trap. He knows Damian will do anything for her knowing this man attached to Melody.”
“Yeah, that makes sense…” he scratched his head.
“I have a bad feeling if I come to this party,” Damian confessed.
“Then, how about you don’t have to go? By that, you can take care of Melody,” Matthew suggests.
“The problem is…if Damian didn’t go to that party, it will affect his reputation,” Victor insisted.
“Gosh, this is harder than I thought,” he grunts.
Damian crumbles the invitation card and throws it in the bin. He leans on the chair, staring at the ceiling. If he didn’t show how much he attached to Melody, this wouldn’t happened.
The door opened without being knocked. “Who the fuc-” he stopped talking when saw his father standing at the doorway.
Matthew and Victor exchange looks in shock, not expecting Flavio to come. It’s so rare to see him coming to Damian’s office without being invited. The old man usually prefers to stay home and do his work from there.
“Dad? What are you doing here?” Damian arches his eyebrows.
“I need to talk to you…about Melody,” he said with a gentle tone.
Hearing her name makes Damian stiff. The name that he cares about a lot. “What about her?”
“Listen, can you…can you go and see her? At least, a bit?” Flavio asks.
Damian sighs, “Dad, don’t you hear what Mom said? I’m the one who ruined everything in Melody’s life. I don’t deserve to be a husband. Especially for her.”
“You can’t just leave her like that, Angelo. She needs you. She needs your support. She is not the sweetest and cheerful girl I have seen anymore,” he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“She just like…a women who spend her life in the coffin and ready for death,”
“I’m sorry, Dad. I just…can’t,” Damian clenched his fist. Deep down in his heart, he was eager to run to the hospital and bring that woman to his chest.
“You miss her, son. I see it in your eyes,” Flavio confronts him. “You can’t lie to me.”
“Yes, I admit it. I do miss her. I do want to be by her side right now and get through everything. Taking care of her and…all that lovely stuff you guys could call.”
“But I know…if I step into her life once again, I will ruin it again.”
His father stares at him for a moment then sighs, “So, you want to divorce her?”
Damian’s finger twitched. Matthew and Victor exchange looks with sad expressions. As much as they don’t want it to happen, they don’t have the right to say anything about it.
“I…”
“You want to?” His father asks again.
He didn’t say anything.
“You know what? I don’t have the right to say anything in this. Think about it yourself. What I can say is, Melody needs you like how you need her.”
Flavio walks toward the door but his steps stop. “Your mom wouldn’t be in the ward tonight. I told you that just in case you want to visit your wife.”
By that, he went out and shut the door closed.
Damian sighs, closing his eyes in frustration. He doesn’t want to let Melody go. What his father said is true. He needs her like how Melody needs him.
