Chapter 81

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2025-2-7

Gabriella shut the car door. She rolls her eyes as Flavio stands beside her. Like always, they just finished arguing about Melody and Damian’s relationship.
“For a hundred times, no means no,” Gabriella firmly said.
“Dear, you do realise this will make our son unhappy, don’t you? Where are your words about making Damian happy?” Flavio frowns.
“That was before he almost killed my precious daughter-in-law,” she crossed her arms above her chest. “Besides, if I knew our son is not husband material, I wouldn’t say those words.”
“How do you know that Damian is not a husband material?” Flavio inquired.
She scoffs, “What kind of question is that? Don’t you see what happened to Melody? She lost her baby because of him.”
“Is that reason good enough for you to shut your mouth?”
Her husband lets out a heavy sigh and pinches the bridge of his nose. He knows once his wife says ‘no’, there’s nothing to change her mind. She will stick to her opinion and Flavio can’t let that happen.
“That didn’t mean you can make them apart by…divorce? You hurt both of them including Melody,” he confronts her.
“Melody will get used to it. She becomes like that because she spends too much time with them instead of us,” she rolls her eyes. “If I knew this would happen, I already made Melody live with us.”
She mumbles the last sentences.
“It doesn’t matter whether she spends too much time with them or not. The problem is, Melody needs her husband like how you need me. Both of them love each other,” Flavio tries again.
Gabriella grunts. She pushes her hair back, “Honey if you are going to talk and argue with me about this, just stop. It wouldn’t work it.”
“No matter what everyone said, I wouldn’t let Damian near her, no more. I had enough of losing someone precious in my life,”
She walks passing him leaving Flavio behind. Before she could step inside the hospital, her husband spoke.
“You said our son failed as a husband because she almost killed Melody, is that what you are saying?”
“Yes, now what?” She sighs and turns to him.
Flavio went to her, “Does that mean I’m failing as a husband too?”
“Why are you saying that?” Gabriella frowns. “Why do you suddenly relate it to you?”
“You said Damian fail to become a husband because of the mistake that he CAN’T predict. Do you remember what happened between us before we married?” He steps closer.
Their bodies were close. Flavio slowly holds her waist, the tip of his nose touching her forehead. Gabriella’s body stiffs as her husband’s action makes her stunned.
“How about me? I almost killed you that time by my mistake. You got kidnapped and I saved you on time,” he reminded her of the past.
His hand get under the top, touching the scar on her ribs. “You got stabbed by my enemy, leaving this scar.”
Gabriella flinches as he talks about that day. It’s the day that she doesn’t want to remember at all or talk about it. She was traumatised by it.
“Guess what? It’s all because of me. If I didn’t come into your life, you wouldn’t get this scar on your pretty skin, dear. Does this make me fail as a husband too?” Flavio whispers.
She clenched her fist, “No…you never fail as a husband to me. You did everything to protect me. You willing to give your life if it happened again…”
“Then why can’t you do that to Damian too?” Flavio sighs. She loses her words. “He made a mistake, dear. Like me. If his mistake makes you see him fail as a husband, then it makes feel like one too.”
“Because me and him are on the same mistake.”
What his husband said is true. But, because of her fear of losing someone, she made a drastic move instead of talking it out.
Flavio holds her hands, “Dear, put faith in our son. I know he is not a…good man sometimes but seeing him with Melody, I can see changes in him.”
There’s a short brief silence before Gabriella pulls her hands from him. She lets out a heavy sigh and fixes her appearance.
“I’m still on my decision,” she huffs and walks away.
Flavio sighs and shakes his head. He knows he snaps her out of her decision but she just needs time to think about it.
They went to Melody’s ward. Gabriella opened the door, “Melody, sweetie, I bought you dinner-”
She halted when saw an empty bed. She looks around the room but there’s no sign of her figure.
“Why are you standing here only?” Flavio frowns. As he looks in front of him, he arches his eyebrows. “Where is Melody?”
“No. She probably at the toilet,” she went to the bathroom and gently knocked it, “Sweetie, are you in there?”
No answers.
Gabriella opens the door and it is empty. Her heart beats quickly as she notices the girl is gone.
“Honey! Melody is gone!”
Flavio furrows his eyebrows. He looks at the CCTV at the ceiling. If there’s something bad happens, he will get notified but this is nothing. Not to mention no bodyguards are guarding the door as well.
He felt his phone vibrate and pull it out.
‘I’m sorry, sir for bothering you. But, it seems Melody ran from the hospital and now she heading to Damian. We follow her from afar,’
The message that is being sent by the guard makes him smile. The guards know better not to stop her from going to Damian.
“Honey, did you hear what I’m saying or not!?” Gabriella looks at him with a panicked expression.
“Yes, I heard you, dear,”
Damian made his coffee in the kitchen while holding the paperwork. He takes a sip of his coffee as he still focusing on his paperwork. Even though the task is in his hands, his mind is on another thing.
His father’s words still lingered in his mind. His phone let out a notification sound. Damian puts down the paper and takes his phone out. It’s a message from Celestia.
‘Sir, the divorce is already prepared. The paper is with me right now. Do you want me to send it to you tonight or tomorrow?’
He sighs and pushes his hair back. “What is wrong with me…”
This is the second time it involved the divorce stuff. As he was busy with his thoughts, something caught his attention. The sounds of people walking while he already asks all the servants to take days off.
He’s the only one in this house.
Damian pulls out his gun. He is ready to aim and takes slow steps. There’s no light except in the kitchen since he turns off the living room light.
He walks into the living room.
“Damian…”
Hearing someone call his name, he quickly turns around while aiming the gun and is ready to shoot. But, all of that changed when he saw Melody standing there in her hospital gown.
“Melody?” He frowns.
The two guards came in, catching their breath. “We are sorry, sir. We know we shouldn’t let her do this but…we want our boss lady to be happy.”
Damian didn’t say anything. He slowly lowers his gun. Seeing his blank expression made Melody nervous.
“I-I know…ran from the hospital is not…a good thing to do…” her hands shake. Her eyes start to get teary. “But I just… want…to see you…”
The way her hands are shaking along with her voice, and tears in her eyes, it is obvious how hard she holding herself from breaking down. Damian didn’t say anything.
“I-I waited…for you to come t–to see me at the hospital but…you didn’t,” she breaths out. “I ask about you with Mom but she never answers my question.”
“I-It just like…you t-throw me just like that…”
She looks at him with hope, “But…I-I know you didn’t do that. You didn’t abandon me just like because I-I lost the b-baby. You didn’t… r-right?”
Damian put the gun back in the pocket. He takes slow steps toward her.
“P-please…don’t leave me…” she pleaded.
By that, Damian brings her to his arms. He hugged her like she could be gone any minute right now. With the hug she had been craving, she broke down. Her cries filled the room.
“No…I wouldn’t leave you…not ever. Even you ask me to.”
