Chapter 714: I’ll Bear It Alone

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2025-2-5

“Ethan Langley has reached the peak of Grandmaster?” Rolando’s words caused a stir, prompting someone to exclaim in disbelief.
Wasn’t Ethan Langley just a Semi-Grandmaster? How could he have advanced to Grandmaster peak in just one month?
Mr. Gray calmly replied, “That’s correct. I only found out today that Colonel Ethan Langley has achieved the peak of Grandmaster.”
The entire banquet erupted into excitement.
Everyone knew Rolando wouldn’t lie-he had no reason to.
They believed it without question.
Grandmaster peak!
In the military, strength reigns supreme, and Ethan Langley’s potential seemed limitless.
The Langley family might soon boast two generals!
If only Jiri Langley had shown promise, the Langley family could have had three generals in the making!
Even setting aside military achievements, having a Grandmaster peak in the family was already enough to make the Langley name renowned across Pelens.
Everyone knew how exponentially harder cultivation became at higher levels.
Lysander King was already considered extraordinary, yet even his sect only had one Grandmaster peak-Xavier Caldwell.
This showcased just how rare and formidable a Grandmaster peak could be.
And Ethan Langley was so young. His potential clearly extended far beyond this. If he became a Great Grandmaster in the future, even Lysander King would have to regard him with respect!
“Ethan Langley?” Flynn chuckled, downing his drink before sneering, “Why don’t you go ask him if he dares?”
Peyton’s gaze turned cold, her face darkening. She glared at Flynn and said icily,
“I won’t deny you have some strength, but there’s no need to act so superior, much less scoff at a Grandmaster peak.”
“You should show some respect!”
Peyton had been quietly observing the events of the evening.
However, the Sheppard family had close ties with the Langley family, and she had grown up with Ethan Langley. There was even a hint of admiration in her heart for him.
Ethan Langley, with his dual identity as a colonel and a Grandmaster, was someone even Peyton, the so-called queen of Pelens, couldn’t help but feel drawn to.
Flynn’s disdain for Ethan Langley naturally irritated her.
In her opinion, even if Flynn were a Grandmaster himself, he couldn’t compare to Ethan Langley’s achievements.
After all, Ethan Langley, though only in his thirties, had reportedly been aided by a new instructor to reach Grandmaster peak.
Flynn, with his unorthodox background, was at most a mid-level Grandmaster.
When facing a superior martial artist, he should show respect, not arrogance.
Flynn ignored Peyton completely. Rising slowly, he locked eyes with Rolando and said,
“I’m not here to beat around the bush. Ever since I arrived, all you’ve done is flaunt your family background.”
“If you want to compete in lineage and strength, fine. I’ll give you time-go and gather all the allies you can. I’ll deal with all of them tonight.”
With that, Flynn swept his gaze around the room, pausing briefly on Alexie, Peyton, Jiri Langley, and Felix Langford. His voice rang out:
“That includes the rest of you. Every family present in this hall-bring out all your resources! I want to see how a small place like Pelens dares to challenge me!”
After saying this, Flynn said no more. He wrapped an arm around Scarlet’s waist and headed for the door.
The wealthy scions and socialites of Pelens quickly parted, making way for him.
What could they do?
Stop him?
Could they even stop him?
Call the police? Would the Langford family allow it? Would Rolando? They wanted to deal with Flynn themselves!
Alexie watched Flynn’s departing back and, for a moment, felt an odd sense of awe.
Perhaps this Flynn truly was capable.
But that moment passed quickly. When his gaze landed on Rolando’s gloomy face, the feeling disappeared entirely.
He admired Flynn for reaching Grandmaster at such a young age, but Flynn’s methods were too brutal.
He had broken Felix Langford’s limbs over a minor disagreement and uttered bold words about challenging Pelens’ entire military, political, and business elite.
Even Peyton, who had been watching passively, couldn’t help but side with Rolando now.
They needed to prove that the young generation of Pelens wasn’t someone a mere Niarak outsider could trample over!
No matter how powerful Flynn’s background and connections were, how could he take on so many families at once?
Flynn, holding Scarlet close, left the venue. Noticing her furrowed brows, he smiled and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I feel bad for you. Even the younger generation of my family holds such deep prejudice against you,” Scarlet sighed, a trace of sadness in her voice.
Flynn smiled faintly, his tone tinged with contempt. “It’s nothing. The Wong family has prospered for centuries; they have their pride.”
“They think someone like me, a Niarak native, isn’t worthy of anyone in the Wong family.”
“They’d rather grovel before Pelens’ so-called noble Gray family.”
“They don’t understand that, in my eyes, the Gray family is no more than a puff of dandelion-one breath, and they’d scatter.”
Scarlet sighed again, saying nothing more.
Yes, the Wong family’s perspective now wasn’t much different from her own in the past.
People only believed what they saw. Until Flynn demonstrated his strength, she could scream herself hoarse, and it would be in vain.
Wasn’t her mother the same way? Scarlet had explained Flynn’s capabilities, but Maria only believed part of it.
Still, wasn’t Flynn’s behavior at the banquet a little over the top?
The Langford family was a major player in Pelens, yet Flynn had treated Felix Langford like some lowly thug, breaking his limbs.
He had even declared war on all the elites of Pelens.
Even with Flynn’s alliance with the Spencer family, would they truly stand by him in such a situation?
“You injured Felix Langford so severely-are you sure it’s not a problem?” Scarlet asked worriedly. “Should we notify the Spencer family in advance?”
“Notify the Spencer family about what?” Flynn asked, puzzled, before replying confidently, “There’s no need. I’ll bear the consequences alone!”
Scarlet still felt a twinge of concern but said nothing more.
She knew that when a man made up his mind, a woman’s role wasn’t to argue but to silently support and encourage him.
“If my grandfather didn’t entertain you properly, then allow me to make it up to you. I’ll take you out for a big meal,” Scarlet said playfully.
“Then maybe we can go sightseeing afterward?”
Flynn gave her a light pat and grinned. “Sure. Pelens has plenty of ancient architecture and beautiful scenery. A stroll sounds nice.”
With that, Flynn held Scarlet close as they walked toward their Lexus.
The events of the evening spread like wildfire.
A Niarak outsider had broken Felix Langford’s limbs!
The news swept through every family like a tsunami.
“What?! Is Flynn insane? That bastard! He’s going to drag the Wong family down with him!”
Holger Wong slammed his hand on the table in fury, his graying beard trembling violently with rage.
The room erupted into chaos.
No one had expected Flynn to commit such an audacious act.
That was the Langford family’s sole male heir!
Now that Flynn had crippled him, the Langford family’s world had effectively collapsed.
If this had happened to any prominent family, they would rally all their forces to annihilate Flynn.
And since Flynn had been brought to the banquet by Scarlet, the Langford family naturally assumed Scarlet had done it on purpose.
This meant the Wong family would also face the Langford family’s wrath!
The Wong family couldn’t possibly withstand the Langford family’s fury.
Maria was equally shocked and furious.
She had thought her daughter and Flynn would leave Shipmeda State after spending a night at the hotel together.
But not only had her daughter stayed, she had taken Flynn to the banquet-and he had broken Felix Langford’s limbs!
