Rebecca woke up when she heard several gunshots coming from the outside. She attempted to stand up and realized that she was tied to the bed with duct tape on her mouth.
“That monster! How could he do this to me?” Rebecca asked.
The door suddenly opened and two men walked towards her. Rebecca thought that they were Brein’s men, but as they removed their masks, she was surprised to see Kwan and Wen. She was so glad that they came to her rescue.
Kwan immediately untied Rebecca who wasn’t able to stop herself from hugging him after being freed. Wen shoot two men who attempted to enter the room.
“That’s enough guys. Hurry up! We have to get out of here before they caught us!” Wen said.
Rebecca’s heart raced as they made their way through the narrow corridors of the abandoned warehouse where Brein Loi’s men had put her. Kwan and Wen moved ahead, clearing the path with precision and speed.
“Stay close to me,” Kwan said, his eyes scanning every shadow for signs of danger.
Wen, showing her finest skills as a sidekick, nodded silently as she took the lead. They moved in synchronized steps, protecting each other, until they reached the main door.
“This must be the exit,” Wen said, gesturing for them to wait. She pressed her ear against the door, listening for movement. “I’ll check it out first. Stay back.”
Before Kwan could protest, Wen pushed the door open and stepped into the open yard outside. The scene was chaotic-several armed men were stationed.
“Cover me,” Wen muttered, raising her weapon.
Kwan and Rebecca watched from the shadows as Wen took down two guards with silent precision. She gestured for them to follow, but just as they stepped out, a loud crack echoed through the air. Wen staggered, clutching her chest, blood seeping between her fingers.
“Wen!” Kwan screamed. He caught Wen before she fell, lowering her gently to the ground. Wen gasped for air, her face pale as blood pooled beneath her.
“Don’t stop… keep moving,” Wen choked out, her voice weak but determined. “They’re coming… you have to get her to safety.”
“I’m not leaving you,” Kwan growled, his eyes filled with anguish.
“You don’t… have a choice,” Wen replied, her lips curling into a faint smile. She pushed a small device into Kwan’s hand-a detonator. “Make it count.”
Rebecca knelt beside Wen, tears streaming down her face, as she realized something. The woman whom she thought was her enemy sacrificed herself to save her. “Wen, please don’t do this. We can save you.”
“It’s too late for me,” Wen said, her voice growing fainter. “But it’s not too late for you. Go.”
With a final push of strength, Wen shoved Kwan and Rebecca away just as more of Brein Loi’s men appeared in the distance. Kwan grabbed Rebecca’s arm, dragging her toward the edge of the yard.
“Goodbye, my friends,” Wen whispered, her eyes closing as her hand tightened around her weapon.
The explosion rocked the ground moments later, engulfing the advancing men and silencing the gunfire. Rebecca screamed Wen’s name, her heart breaking as Kwan pulled her into cover.
“He gave his life for us,” Kwan said, his voice tight with emotion. “We can’t let it be in vain.”
Rebecca nodded, wiping her tears. “We’ll make Brein Loi pay. For Wen, for everyone.”
With a heavy heart and renewed determination, they disappeared into the night, leaving the chaos and the memory of their fallen friend behind.
The sun was going down on the horizon when Elfedio and Bernadette saw their daughter and her future husband outside the mansion. They wondered what happened because both of them looked tired and dirty as if a group of zombies had chased after them. They immediately opened the gate and let them enter, eager to know the story.
Rebecca wasn’t able to stop herself from hugging her mother while tears falling down from her golden eyes. She couldn’t imagine all the difficulties she had to go through since the day she left home.
“We’re surprised to see you back. Can you tell us what happened?” Elfedio asked worriedly.
“I’m sorry, Sir, but Rebecca is not safe with me anymore. I couldn’t even protect my bestfriend from the enemy. We didn’t expect that the man you send us to help will be one of Brein Loi’s minions. If I only didn’t trust that man, perhaps my friend is still alive now,” Emerson replied in a regretful tone of voice.
“What? That’s horrible! How could that happen?” Elfedio asked, surprised to know that Lando wasn’t loyal to him.
“We’re so sorry for your lost, Kwan. But I’m glad you didn’t let my daughter is fine. We know from the start that Brein Loi is a monster. He even tried to attack us, but he didn’t succeed,” Elfedio continued.
“We’re relieved that you decided to go back here rather than running away. This way, we can protect you, and we really miss our daughter too,” Bernadette added, hugging Rebecca again.
“Right. If that monster will show up here, rest assured, we won’t hesitate to cut his head off,” Elfedio said.
“Thank you so much, mom, dad. I know you’ll be here to help us. I’m sorry for being such a stubborn daughter to you,” Rebecca apologized.
“Don’t worry. Leave it to us. You’re the only child we have, so we should protect you no matter what. Even if it takes our own lives,” Elfedio replied.
“Yeah, your father’s right. We won’t let that man take you again. You can get inside now. Take a shower and have a rest,” Bernadette said.
“Thank you so much, ma’am, sir,” Kwan said respectfully before he followed Rebecca inside the mansion to take a rest.
Elfedio told his men to keep their guard up just in case Brein’s minions have followed his daughter. He told them to shot anyone they find with questionable intentions, so that they can rest peacefully.
“Roger boss! You can leave the watching to us!” The men saluted and went to their respective areas.
“Young lady?” Lucille screamed when she saw Rebecca entering the door of the mansion. She run towards her and asked, “What happened? Why did you came back?”
“It’s a long story, Lucille, but I’m tired right now. Let’s talk about it later. I’ll tell you what happened,” Rebecca replied.
“Okay,” Lucille said worriedly. “Let me prepare your bedroom. Nobody’s using that room since you left, so it’s quite dusty now.”
“Thank you. I’ll take a shower first,” Rebecca replied as continued to the bathroom. She almost fell down the slippery floor if Kwan didn’t catch her in his arms.
As they looked into each other’s eyes, Rebecca remembered the first time they met. She didn’t expect this story to become like this when she thought Kwan was just an ordinary gardener, someone she shouldn’t fall for because it’s a disgrace to her parents. She still remembered that day she fell in love with him.
“Stay away from our daughter! You uneducated rat!” Elfedio once shouted to Emerson, not knowing that the man he was talking to was the most feared hitman in their country.
“Ahem!” Bernadette faked a cough to get their attention because it seemed like her daughter and Emerson didn’t see that there were other people looking at them.
Kwan let go of Rebecca whose face turned red of embarrassment. Rebecca hurriedly get inside the bathroom, acting annoyed, although she couldn’t hide what she felt when her eyes meet Kwan’s.
Bernadette, Elfedio, and Lucille didn’t say anything about what they saw since they all know that Rebecca and Kwan truly loved each other, so they didn’t have any complains about their romance.
