After taking a shower, Rebecca continued inside her room and found her boyfriend sitting on the edge of her bed. Kwan looked sad, thinking about his best friend’s death. He couldn’t forgive himself for what happened.
Rebecca thought of making her man happy, so she got close to him and gave him a hug without wearing any clothes. Kwan was surprised by what she was doing; he tried to resist her seduction, but it was too late as his excitement had already turned into a plateau.
Kwan’s muscles tightened up as he made Rebecca lay on her bed. He crawled and towered over her, breathing heavily, as he kissed her lips down to her neck and belly. He was about to reach her thigh when someone knocked on the door.
“This must be very important. Let’s just continue this later,” Kwan said, his expression turned serious, the one he always showed. He stood up, opened the closet, and gave Rebecca clothes to wear before opening the door.
“Rebecca, Kwan,” Bernadette started as the door opened. “Elfedio’s informants told us that they spotted Brein’s men nearby. You must have been tracked by them.”
“But how?” Rebecca asked as she walked towards them. “I thought we had successfully escaped from them.”
“Yes, we have, but Brandon already knew where we’re going before we even arrived here. He knew that we have no one else to turn to but your parents,” Kwan replied. “I’m so sorry for getting you involved with this, ma’am,” he apologized.
“Don’t worry about it. As we have said earlier, we’ll always protect our daughter no matter what, so there’s no point blaming you; let’s just solve this instead,” Bernadette replied.
Kwan and Rebecca agreed to Bernadette. They followed her downstairs to talk about their plan. In the silence of the mansion, their heartbeats could be heard, creating a suspenseful atmosphere like in a thriller movie.
“They have already reached our territory. It’s not easy to attack them head-on because there are too many of them. What should we do now?” Elfedio asked.
“Why don’t we attack them from a distance? I just need a sniper rifle and bullets to do that,” Kwan suggested.
“That’s a good idea, but you’re not alone in this fight, Kwan. I have that kind of gun in my room. I think it’s finally time to use them,” Elfedio said.
“Follow me.” Elfedio led them to his room. He opened the door, took an old case below his bed, and handed it to Kwan.
Kwan accepted the case and opened it to see an M40. It wasn’t the first time he had touched such a heavy gun. He had used one before against his target, so he knew exactly how to use them.
Rebecca watched how Kwan loaded the gun with bullets. He still looked cool and attractive with his calm aura despite this dangerous situation. She admired him so much that she already forgot that innocent side of him.
“What about us?” Rebecca asked. “I can’t just sit here watching my husband risk his life fighting Brein’s men.”
“Rebecca’s right,” Bernadette added. “We have to help.”
“No, you can’t. That’s an order,” Elfedio said firmly. “You don’t have any knowledge about guns, so it’s better for you to stay inside. I’ll be the one to help him.”
“But dad,” Rebecca wanted to argue. She couldn’t afford to lose another family member.
“No more buts, just do as I say. Don’t worry, we’ll be fine; besides, we don’t have to attack them face-to-face. Just trust me. I got this,” Elfedio said.
“Are you sure?” Rebecca asked. She couldn’t stop herself from worrying about what could happen to them. “Mom, aren’t you going to stop them?”
“Your father knows what he’s doing, child. We can’t change his mind once he has decided. All we can do now is pray and hope that they’ll make it out alive,” Bernadette replied.
“Don’t worry about me, Rebecca. I promise to come back safe and sound.” Kwan kissed Rebecca’s forehead.
“Please take care,” Rebecca reminded him.
Kwan didn’t reply. He followed Elfedio to the rooftop, where they set up the M40s. He knew he couldn’t die this time because he had someone waiting for him. He didn’t want to make unfulfilled promises, so he’d do his best to stay alive.
After he set up his sniper rifle, Kwan lay down and started looking through the optics of the gun. He spotted some men getting nearby and didn’t hesitate to shoot them with quite precision. One of them dropped on the ground without knowing where the bullets came from.
Several men were down one after another. Elfedio was doing well as well. It seemed like he had been training for this day. He had killed many men already.
Kwan didn’t want to be defeated, so he did his best to keep up with Elfedio’s pace as if they were in a competition with each other. Elfedio told him that if he got more killed than him, he’d let him marry his daughter, but if not, he’d stay away from her, and that became his motivation.
Laterally, almost all of Brein’s men were down. But the fight didn’t end there as their boss came to view. Kwan knew he had to be more precise this time.
“You know what to do,” Elfedio said. “I’ll bequeath all my properties to you if you get him.”
Kwan didn’t really need that motivation, because he had all the hatred against Brein Loi, not only for hurting Rebecca but also for killing his best friend. He promised Wen to avenge her death, and that day had finally come.
The bullet splashed through the air directly towards Brein’s position. It reached the skin on his face, and blood instantly streamed down his nose. Anger flickered in his eyes as he spotted Kwan on the rooftop.
“That bullshit!” Brandon cried in pain. “I’ll make him pay for this. Hunt him down!” He ordered his men.
“That was close,” Elfedio said. “But I think you have to be more precise next time.”
“I think they already spot us. We have to get out of here now,” Kwan said.
“No, we can’t just give it up. There are too many of them. Just keep attacking if you still want to see Rebecca again,” Elfedio replied, knowing that they have no other choice. They have to end it there, or else his wife and daughter will get involved.
As their arguments heated, Kwan and Elfedio didn’t notice that one of Brein’s men reached the roof. He immediately shot Elfedio from the back.
It was too late when Kwan pushed the man off. The man fell down the roof and died through the pointed spears, while blood was streaming down Elfedio’s body.
“I think I have to leave the rest to you, Kwan. I’m not letting you marry my daughter unless you kill Brandon,” Elfedio said in a faint voice before he finally got lost of breath.
Kwan screamed. His mind was racing; he wanted to avenge Elfedio’s death, so keep shooting them until they all died. There was only one person left, Brein Loi, who was standing in front of his dead army.
“Just one more…” Kwan was about to shoot Brandon, but he couldn’t move his body anymore due to pain; his hands were covered in blood. He collapsed on the rooftop.
When he woke up, Kwan found himself inside Rebecca’s room without a shirt because his body was full of bruises and it was still aching. He remembered what happened before he lost consciousness. He shot the last bullet at Brandon, but he didn’t know if he died.
Kwan slowly stood up, walked towards the window, and saw that there were many people outside. He then realized that they were grieving over Elfedio’s death. He went downstairs and found Rebecca sitting on the couch beside her mother; they were both crestfallen.
Even Lucille was sad, knowing that her boss, the man who hired her to become Rebecca’s personal maid, died. She still remembered the first day they met; she was just a poor little girl with so many dreams that time.
“Rebecca,” Kwan said, holding one of his broken arms covered in bandages.
“Kwan,” Rebecca replied. He stood up and walked towards him. “You shouldn’t have gotten out of bed yet. You’re badly injured. You said you’d come back safe and sound not black and blue.” Her voice was full of worries.
“I’m so sorry for your loss, Rebecca,” Kwan said in a regretful tone. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to protect your dad.”
“Don’t blame yourself, Kwan. It was not your mistake. It was Brandon’s mistake. He must pay for this. He must pay for hurting you and for killing my father. He’s a demon!” Rebecca cried with so much anguish in her voice.
“Isn’t he dead yet?” Kwan asked. “I remembered I shot him. Did he escape the hands of death again?”
“We don’t know. But we didn’t find his body among the dead men,” Bernadette interrupted. “I have a strong feeling that he’s still alive.”
