The weather was nice today, and the sunlight dappled through the courtyard of the cafe, casting a warm glow. Everyone’s eyes were on Tom, including Agnes, all curious about how he would respond.
Tom held his coffee cup and looked earnestly at Summer. He recounted the situation of the fake engagement in detail. “At that time, I chose Agnes to act with me because I had some feelings for her,” Tom Fritz now felt even more certain of his intentions. “Through our time together, we’ve become more sure about wanting to be together. We hope to receive your blessings. Our Fritz family will seriously host a grand engagement party.”
Agnes was slightly startled; he hadn’t mentioned this to her! Tom turned his gaze as well, his lips curling into a smile as he looked at her affectionately and reached out to hold her shoulder.
Although Summer was shocked that her sister had found a boyfriend so quickly, her first impression of this man was quite good.
At this moment, Spencer put his arm around his wife’s shoulder and calmly introduced, “Tom is an old friend of mine. He is a chemistry professor and scientist. The famous Fritz Group in Arkpool City is his family business, and he has also served as the group’s president for a time. He has a good head for business.”
“He didn’t attend our wedding because he was doing research at Stanford University’s lab,” Spencer admitted.
This made Summer think of something-Stanford?
Summer turned her gaze to her sister’s face. “So Agnes, you went abroad not to visit friends but to see your boyfriend?”
“Yes,” the girl nodded, holding her coffee cup as she admitted it. “That’s right.”
Summer was actually a bit worried about her sister. In this fickle age, she hoped she wouldn’t become too love-struck.
But people say that connections matter. This was Summer’s first time meeting Tom, and his graceful demeanor added many points in his favor.
However, a fake engagement seemed too absurd. Such things only happened in TV dramas; how would their parents accept it?
Summer asked, “Are you planning to get the marriage certificate tomorrow? What about Mom and Dad? Are you going to act first and report later?”
Tom spoke up at this point. “Of course not. We plan to talk to them tonight.”
“Mom and Dad will agree,” Spencer said confidently after taking a sip of coffee. “Look at me; didn’t I accept it?”
Tom couldn’t help but laugh. “What kind are you?”
Ahem! The topic was sensitive since they were already married, so Spencer did not answer but just held his wife closer. Tom also stopped asking.
Agnes thought for a moment while holding her coffee cup. “Spencer, although Tom and I haven’t been together long, we actually met seven years ago.”
Upon hearing this, Summer suddenly understood something and asked, “So those emails…”
“They were sent to him,” Agnes admitted bravely, wanting to prove she wasn’t acting on impulse.
“What emails?” Spencer became interested and looked at his sister before turning to Tom. “Seems like there’s already a story here?”
Agnes didn’t hide anything. “I sent him emails once, which my sister saw by accident.”
“What? Have you been dating for seven years?” Spencer interpreted it this way since that’s how a man’s mind works. He teased Tom directly, “How could you do that? Agnes was only 23 now; seven years ago she was still underage!”
“I am not as unscrupulous as you think,” Tom replied with a smile before looking affectionately at Agnes again. “If I waited any longer, someone else might have taken her away.”
