Seeing the smile on the girl’s face, Tom’s mood instantly brightened. “Sure, is there any local specialty food here?” she asked, starting to look forward to it, then made a request, “If it’s not special, I won’t eat it!”
The closer distance allowed her to say such things. Tom’s lips curved into a gentle smile. He thought for a moment and said to her, “You will definitely like it.”
Agnes glanced at him curiously and asked, “How do you know?” She didn’t recall ever discussing her food preferences with him.
Tom smiled, “Because I like it.”
The girl looked at him, her reaction a bit slow. Meeting his gaze, her cheeks flushed with warmth. Yes, he wasn’t wrong. What he liked, she would like too. Because love makes everything beautiful.
Tom then took her to a famous restaurant on campus. The environment was elegant, featuring a rustic wooden and cream decor. Most of the patrons were young people, and it was usually quiet and not crowded.
Just as Tom and Agnes reached the entrance and were about to step inside, the beautifully dressed Lisa came out from within. Seeing them, Lisa instinctively stopped in her tracks, her eyes filled with shock! Why was Agnes here? And with Tom? Weren’t they in a fake engagement? Just a cooperative relationship!! What was going on?!
Tom and Agnes also stopped simultaneously upon seeing her. Their gazes met, and time seemed to stand still. Agnes was equally surprised to see her here; the world was indeed small.
“Tom…” Lisa put away her shock and cast a pitiful look at the handsome man’s face as if she had countless things to say to him.
Tom Fritz didn’t want any trouble. He reached out and wrapped his arm around the girl’s shoulder beside him, maintaining eye contact with the other woman. Agnes was slightly taken aback but did not turn to look at him; instead, she looked at Lisa in the distance.
This action by the man felt like a stab directly into Lisa’s heart! “Lisa, I have a fiancee now; this is a fact you must accept,” Tom stated clearly. “I don’t want to hear anything more from you.”
Hearing these words made Lisa very sad; her face turned pale as she clutched her wounded heart, momentarily speechless.
Tom held Agnes’ shoulder and led her into the restaurant. As Agnes passed by Lisa, Lisa felt her body stiffen.
Agnes recalled the scene when Lisa came looking for her in Arkpool City that day and those childish photos. Unrequited love was indeed painful; Agnes had experienced it herself and could deeply understand Lisa’s feelings. But love was not something that could be conceded.
Feeling the strength and warmth from Tom’s palm on her shoulder, whether it was to completely get rid of Lisa or not, at this moment Agnes felt closest to happiness. In his embrace, by his side, even breathing became cautious.
Tom found a seat for her and took the menu handed over by the waiter while saying to her, “This spot is almost my exclusive one; I come here often.”
Agnes sat across from him and curiously asked, “Have you brought other girls here?”
Tom looked up at her and smiled, “Yes, just classmates.”
The girl was a bit surprised by his honesty because even if he lied, she couldn’t verify it anyway. It was this honesty that made him seem so different and made her feel very secure. But at the same time, she also envied that girl very much.
