Then, the housemaid gave her brand new toiletries, including a towel, toothbrush, and a face wash specifically for women. She also asked what she would like for breakfast and provided a menu, saying these were all ingredients available at home and could be made fresh without taking too long.
“Red bean cake, please. Thank you, Mrs. Brown.”
“You’re welcome.”
While Mrs. Brown prepared breakfast, she went to freshen up. Standing at the sink Mr. Kitten used, she felt so close to him because of her deep affection for him. Looking at herself in the mirror while brushing her teeth, she remembered the forehead kiss he had given her, making every cell in her body feel ecstatic.
Agnes often found herself distracted; he had actually kissed her! However, when she asked if she was bothering him, his answer was affirmative. This left her a bit confused-was she being a burden by coming to see him without notice?
After freshening up, it was time for breakfast.
“Miss Campbell, Jeffery has been waiting downstairs for over an hour,” Mrs. Brown intentionally revealed. “Tom usually doesn’t leave at this time; he must have wanted to wait for you to wake up before starting his work.”
The girl looked up from her steaming red bean cake at the middle-aged woman who was dusting the furniture. She paused slightly-waiting for her? Mrs. Brown smiled and said, “Tom may seem quiet and doesn’t talk much, but he really cares about you. Last night, he repeatedly instructed to buy clothes with the best fabric regardless of the price.”
Hearing this warmed Agnes’s heart instantly. “Mrs. Brown, please call me by my name. I’m Agnes; you can call me Agnes or Bubu.”
“Agnes is a lovely name, very pleasant to hear. Bubu is nice too. Calling you Miss Campbell is fine as well.”
“I find it quite awkward.”
“Then I’ll call you Agnes.”
“Okay.” The girl smiled at her and continued eating breakfast while asking about Tom. She liked him very much and was interested in everything about him.
According to Mrs. Brown, Tom was highly praised. Despite being a professor of such stature, he had no airs and was very approachable. From Mrs. Brown’s words, Agnes learned that Tom was extremely busy, often working non-stop in the lab. When he finally got some rest at the apartment, he would stay up late working on his computer and frequently received phone calls.
He was particularly disciplined and maintained a habit of reading every night. Hearing this made Agnes feel that Tom’s character was well-established because in her mind, her Mr. Kitten had always been such a disciplined and excellent person.
“Oh yes, Agnes, Tom also prepared a computer for you in his study; it’s on the desk there for you to use anytime,” Mrs. Brown mentioned while tidying up the study.
So thoughtful? A computer too?
“Okay, thank you.” Agnes walked into his study; her phone had finished charging by then. She turned it on and saw numerous missed calls from her sister.
She called her sister back immediately. Her sister had learned from Mr. Marsh that she had taken leave and bought a ticket abroad but couldn’t reach her and was very worried.
As soon as Summer heard her voice on the phone, she finally felt relieved. “You really scared me! Finally turned your phone on-where are you?”
“Summer, I’m sorry for worrying you,” Agnes felt very apologetic since Summer was pregnant and any emotional stress could have serious consequences.
“Where are you? Why did you go abroad?” Summer asked anxiously.
“I’m at a friend’s place; don’t worry about me. I’m fine and will be back in a few days,” Agnes lied softly. “My friend had an urgent matter here that I came to help with; I left in a hurry without my charger so my phone died last night…”
“When did you have such a close friend? Why don’t I know about this?” Summer interrupted skeptically.
Summer thought if it wasn’t someone very important to her heart, how could she leave so impulsively without even informing anyone?
