The girl just stared at her, gradually losing herself in thought. Everything she had experienced since getting off the plane replayed in Agnes’s mind. He was still alive, she had finally seen him; this wasn’t a dream.
Agnes gently lifted the blanket, making almost no sound. After getting out of bed, she didn’t even put on shoes, walking barefoot step by step towards him. Her intense gaze remained fixed on his handsome profile, afraid to disturb him yet unable to stop herself from approaching.
When Agnes finally stood beside him, she carefully squatted down in front of him and reached out to hold his slightly cool fingers. She looked up at him with a determined gaze.
Tom was slightly startled, still holding a book that he had read over 200 pages of. He looked at the girl squatting in front of him and asked gently, “You’re awake? What would you like to eat?”
“Did you stay up all night again?” the girl asked softly, with a hint of concern in her voice. “Just like that night, right?”
Meeting her apologetic gaze, Tom remained silent but calm. Agnes bit her lip and slowly tightened her grip on his hands, saying sincerely, “I’m sorry…”
Tom came back to his senses, gently withdrew his fingers from her grasp, and set the book aside. “What do you want to eat? You can tell Mrs. Brown.”
As he stood up, he reached out to help her up as well. The girl stood up with his assistance.
“I have to go to the lab,” Tom said calmly.
Agnes suddenly lost control of her emotions and hugged him from behind! She didn’t say anything, just held him tightly, stopping him in his tracks.
To be honest, the word “lab” terrified her now, plunging her into a state of panic. At that moment, Tom could feel her worry; her cheek lightly pressed against his back. Tom slowly raised his hand and held the girl’s hands that were clasped around his abdomen.
He gently pulled her hands apart and turned to face her. Agnes bravely looked up at him with tears gathering in her eyes. She stubbornly bit her lip as if to say-don’t go!
Tom reached out and stroked her head before giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead. The girl was momentarily stunned; when she looked up at him again, he said softly, “I’ll go to the lab and come right back. You have breakfast first; Mrs. Brown bought you some clothes and put them on that table. I hope you like them.”
With that, Tom turned and walked out. The girl suddenly realized something and asked quickly, “Did I disturb you?”
Wasn’t he supposed to be very busy? How could he come back so soon?
Tom stopped at the door and thought for a moment before answering without turning around, “Yes.”
The girl was slightly stunned as the man turned back to give her a small smile before leaving.
Watching his figure disappear through the door, Agnes’s emotions surged wildly. The warmth of his lips lingered on her forehead… That gentle kiss left her dazed for a long time.
What did it mean? Did he have feelings for her too? Did he like her as well? Was it true?
This wasn’t some local custom, right? He couldn’t have adapted so quickly.
After Tom left, Agnes opened the bag on the bedside table. Inside was a dress in her size and style that she found quite pretty.
She changed into the dress and walked out of the bedroom. When Mrs. Brown saw her, her eyes lit up. “Miss Campbell looks so beautiful! I was worried it wouldn’t suit your taste.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Brown,” Agnes said with a grateful smile. “I really like it; it must have been hard for you late at night.”
“It’s no trouble at all; it’s what I should do,” Mrs. Brown replied warmly. She really liked this young lady and believed that any girl Tom liked must be a good one.
