In the United States, opposite a research institute, there was an international hotel with expensive rates for a night’s stay. Lisa chose a room directly facing the institute’s entrance. She had been staying there for six days, constantly watching from the window, but Tom had not come out once. It seemed he was really busy. Because she liked him, she also worried about him, concerned for his health. After all, people aren’t made of iron; could he really handle such intense work?
She wanted to help him in some way. As she was feeling concerned, a familiar figure walked out of the institute’s entrance. Jeffery’s car hadn’t arrived yet. Lisa snapped back to attention and looked closely-it was really him! She quickly turned and rushed out of her room.
At that moment, Jeffery’s car smoothly stopped in front of Tom. He opened the door and got into the passenger seat, and soon the car drove away. Jeffery was only ten seconds late. By the time Lisa hurried downstairs, the entrance of the institute was already empty. She anxiously looked around but didn’t know which direction he had gone.
Just then, her phone rang. She quickly answered it, “Did you find it?!”
“Yes, Lisa, I’ve sent the location to your phone.”
“Great!” She hung up and immediately opened the message with the location, then flagged down a taxi.
She got in and urgently told the driver, “Sir, go to this location, quickly!”
The car sped off! Soon, Lisa arrived at an apartment building-Tom Fritz’s residence. Although she wasn’t sure if he had gone upstairs yet, she calculated that it couldn’t have been that fast if he drove normally. So she decided to wait a bit longer.
Sure enough, she soon saw a familiar car slowing down and stopping in front of her. Jeffery in the driver’s seat looked slightly surprised when he saw Lisa. He glanced at Tom sitting in the passenger seat.
Tom also saw her but quickly looked away, his face remaining cold and expressionless. After getting out of the car, he ignored her completely and started walking inside.
Lisa reacted quickly and stepped in front of him, blocking his way with her hand. “Tom Fritz!” She knew she was being ignored.
Tom stopped with his hands in his pockets, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. His stern face showed a hint of fatigue as he looked at her impatiently. “What is it?”
“Don’t be so cold; how about making a friend?” Lisa bravely asked.
But his response was, “I don’t need friends; I’m not interested and don’t have time.” With that, he walked past her without looking back.
Lisa turned to follow but was quickly held back by Jeffery. “Hey hey hey! Lisa!”
Reluctantly stopping, she glanced at Jeffery and then unwillingly at Tom’s tall and slender figure walking away.
“Lisa,” Jeffery said as he let go of her hand politely. “Tom has been at the institute these past few days with less than five hours of rest each day. He’s just here to pick up some materials and will head back soon; he’s really busy.”
Jeffery continued kindly, “Please don’t bother him anymore. He’s naturally aloof and not someone who considers others’ feelings well; he’s not suited for making friends.”
Lisa had no words but felt unwilling to give up.
“Please leave,” Jeffery insisted gently but firmly. He thought to himself that he must stop this girl to ensure Miss Campell’s long-distance relationship with Tom remained unaffected by any complications.
