Agnes’s arrival brought more joy and laughter to the house. After entering the living room, she bent down to place the kitten on the floor. “Go play, don’t cause trouble!”
Mr. Campell and Mrs. Campell’s first reaction upon seeing their daughter was, “Agnes, haven’t you been eating well lately? Why have you lost weight?”
“Huh? I don’t think so,” Agnes replied, not having noticed herself.
Then she approached her sister, unable to resist gently placing her hand on her sister’s belly with a joyful smile on her face. “Little baby, I’m here to see you!”
“It’s not formed yet,” Summer said with a smile, hugging her shoulders. “How have you been? Are you used to living alone?”
“I’m doing great.”
Soon, someone from the kitchen called everyone for dinner, and the family headed to the dining room. The villa was really spacious, specially prepared by Spencer for after the wedding. Even with Mr. Campell and Mrs. Campell living there, it didn’t feel crowded; everyone had their own private area.
The backyard was large enough for gardening, providing the elderly with a way to pass the time.
Everyone sat around the dining table, enjoying a pleasant meal atmosphere.
Spencer once again asked in front of everyone, “Agnes, do you want to move in? There’s a room prepared for you upstairs that’s been empty.”
“No, I’m used to living in that apartment,” Agnes said, needing her own space because she was starting a relationship. “Thank you for your kindness.”
Spencer didn’t insist but said to her, “Anyway, whenever you want to move in, just come over.”
“Okay.”
“Agnes, are you dating anyone recently?” Mrs. Campell asked directly. “Ansel is quite nice; I heard he’s teaching at a university now.”
“No, I’m not dating him. We’re not suitable,” Agnes replied clearly. “I don’t like him.”
“Why don’t you like him?” Mr. Campell asked. “Didn’t you grow up together? You got along well and never had any arguments.”
Agnes thought it had taken a lot of effort to make things clear with Ansel and didn’t want them to matchmake again, or they might think she had changed her mind.
So she looked at everyone seriously and said, “Because I have someone I like.”
As soon as she finished speaking, her parents, sister, and Spencer all looked at her simultaneously!
“…”
They were probably stunned at first and then asked in unison, “Who is it?”
Agnes felt overwhelmed by their questions since nothing was certain yet. She just smiled and looked away, focusing on her food.
“Who is it? A colleague?” Mrs. Campell asked with concern after recovering from her surprise.
Mr. Campell was also pleased. “That’s good; balancing work and finding a partner means you’re less likely to end up single.”
Summer added with concern, “Agnes, you should bring him home sometime so we can meet him. There are too many deceitful men these days; better safe than sorry.”
“Yes, Bubu, you should bring him over for us to see,” Spencer agreed. “I can judge a man accurately with just five seconds of eye contact; I can tell if he’s up to no good.”
Their concern made Agnes uncomfortable.
Her Mr. Cat was so outstanding; how could they question him? She felt both heartache and guilt.
She loved him and couldn’t help but want to protect him.
After dinner, seeing that Agnes didn’t want to talk much about her feelings, everyone assumed the relationship was new and stopped asking questions but reminded her to take care of herself.
