The next morning in the United States. Tom got up early; he was heading to the lab today, and the team had taken on a new project, which would put them in a particularly busy state. After breakfast, he dressed meticulously and went downstairs.
“Do you want to send Miss Campbell a message? Let her know you’ll be busy for a while,” Jeffery kindly reminded him as he opened the car door.
Tom looked at him thoughtfully and nodded. Then he bent down and got into the passenger seat.
Jeffery closed the door for him, quickly walked around the car, got in, and drove him to the lab.
“Tom,” Jeffery observed his expression curiously, “Did you sleep well last night? Are you having a conflict with Miss Campbell?”
“I slept well. Why do you ask?” Tom’s lips curved slightly.
“You look a bit tired.”
“I mean, why do you think I’m having a conflict with Miss Campbell?”
Jeffery thought for a moment and answered honestly, “You’ve been here for so long, and I haven’t seen you call her much.”
Tom turned his gaze and replied gently, “You’ll see it more often from now on.”
Jeffery smiled knowingly. For many days, last night was actually the first time Tom had slept so soundly. He no longer needed to think about how to reply to emails; he had found a clever way to let her know he had read them. It resolved one of his concerns.
Seeing the smile on Tom’s face, Jeffery understood something. Long-distance relationships were the hardest to maintain; both parties needed to put in effort.
Tom casually opened his phone and saw that the first post was from Agnes, featuring a beautiful sunrise. The caption read: “The mountains are high and the road is long. See the world and find yourself.”
Tom’s expression softened as he liked the post and commented: “Excellent.”
When Agnes saw his interaction, she felt a long-lost joy. The familiar avatar made her feel as if she was seeing him because he hadn’t interacted with her before!
Her heart felt sweet like it was filled with honey as she replied: “How can I not be excellent to be friends with you?”
By the time Tom saw this message, the car had already arrived at the lab building. He smiled and put away his phone.
As soon as he got out of the car, Tom immediately noticed a figure standing at the entrance. He was slightly surprised but still walked towards her.
Lisa, wearing a black square-neck dress, felt delighted when she saw him. Her eyes sparkled, and she smiled but restrained her emotions.
“Tom.” She greeted him softly when he got closer.
“Hello.” He found it somewhat tiresome and replied casually.
The deliberate distance didn’t make Lisa feel uncomfortable. She hadn’t seen him for a while and seemed unable to get enough of looking at him. So handsome, mature with a steady aura, knowledgeable and wise-such damn charming talent!
Seeing him here already made her very happy.
“Tom, you’re probably the best actor among scientists,” Lisa smiled directly at him.
Tom turned his gaze towards her.
With some information in hand, Lisa’s smile carried a hint of smugness. “What do you think Grandma would say if she knew your engagement with Agnes was fake? Could she handle it?”
Tom Fritz’s face darkened as he looked at her coldly. “Lisa, are you threatening me?”
