2442. A Sweet Call

Book:Mr. Marsh's Twins Published:2024-12-16

Jeffery saw Tom sitting on the terrace chair in the distance, a faint smile on his lips. Relieved, he turned and left, realizing that Tom was indeed troubled by love. After a long and restless sleep, he finally picked up the phone. Making this call was good; at least it wouldn’t be so stifling anymore. He wondered if Tom regretted coming here. Being the president of his own company and marrying the girl he liked seemed pretty good.
“I might have gained a little weight,” Tom answered casually. He hadn’t weighed himself; he hadn’t even looked in the mirror for a long time due to his busy schedule.
“That’s fine, you’re tall,” the girl complimented him. “With your good looks, you’ll look great whether you’re thin or not.”
He smiled. “Isn’t ‘good-looking’ a term for girls?”
“It can also describe very handsome guys without any awkwardness,” she replied.
Tom smiled, a smile she could feel. Agnes also smiled, a genuine smile that had been absent from her face for a long time. As long as she was on the phone with him, even if they said nothing, she felt that time was incredibly beautiful.
Later, Tom shared some things from the lab with her, and Agnes listened attentively. For instance, he said, “I’m generally quite easygoing, right? But for some reason, when I walk into an elevator where a few interns are chatting happily, it suddenly becomes dead silent.”
“Your presence is too strong,” Agnes laughed gently. “You have a very commanding aura.”
“Not really, I’m actually quite easygoing,” Tom shared with her. He took another sip of his drink and asked, “Agnes, why haven’t you contacted me lately?”
Huh? The girl was taken aback.
He wanted to know if she had truly decided to start a new life. Knowing he was the little cat and that he was right in front of her with contact information available, he wanted to know her true feelings. Was her lack of contact because she didn’t love him anymore?
Agnes was caught off guard by his sudden question and pondered how to respond.
“Sorry.” In the brief silence, Tom realized he had made her uncomfortable.
“It’s okay.” She smiled and replied half-jokingly and half-seriously, “I was afraid that if I contacted you too much, you’d find me annoying.”
This answer pained Tom. He smiled and said to her, “You’ve sent over 400 emails; from now on, let me take the initiative, okay?”
Agnes was astonished by his words. Had she heard him correctly? At that moment, her heart felt warm and sour simultaneously as she sat in her office chair holding the phone. She was stunned and didn’t quite understand what he meant.
“Alright then, you get back to work. I guess you’re in your office now, so I won’t disturb you,” Tom’s voice was gentle. “Bye.”
“Bye~” Agnes murmured.
Before she could react, he had already hung up the phone.
Recalling what he just said made Agnes’s lips curl into a smile as if a flower bloomed in her heart. He had seen the emails; he knew it was her. He didn’t blame her or dislike her…
So did this call count as his initiative? Was it his attitude?
At this moment, Agnes’s heart was filled with him; there was light in her eyes and overflowing love in her heart. He feared making her uncomfortable or anxious and chose this way to express himself thoughtfully.
At least she no longer had to guess or worry about whether he had read all those emails or knew it was her.
The entire day flew by as Agnes felt energized like never before; she approached work with newfound enthusiasm as if she had come alive again. In her spare time, she resumed creating comics to capture this beautiful moment in her own way.
