Suddenly being approached by his son, Ulric was stunned for a few seconds before tightly holding his small hand in his own.
“Uncle Chow will be fine. When he wakes up, I’ll take you to the hospital to see him.”
Jake nodded, seemingly surprised by this term of address.
“Why haven’t you… forced me to call you Dad?” Before returning to the country, Jake had anticipated all possible scenarios.
For instance, he thought Ulric might insist on being called Dad, or that he would be very hostile, even refusing to acknowledge him. Jake had seen these plots often in TV dramas.
But… it seemed nothing was as he expected!
Ulric, this so-called deadbeat dad, neither forced him to do anything he didn’t want to do nor doubted his identity. He just brought him home and took good care of him!
“When you feel like calling me that, you’ll naturally start.” He didn’t like forcing things; it wouldn’t be genuine from his son.
Even back when he used some means with Rosalind, the final decision was still left to her. If she hadn’t come to him voluntarily, he wouldn’t have used money and power to force her into agreement.
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll blackmail you for money? Or that I’m not even your child?” Jake tilted his head, voicing all the questions he couldn’t understand.
Ulric squatted down to be at eye level with him.
He raised his hand and pinched Jake’s cheek. “Since you could access W Group’s backend, you should know that money means nothing to me.”
As for the next question…
Just looking at Jake’s face provided the answer.
He didn’t have any twin brothers who looked so similar to him; there could be no other explanation.
Even if Jake wasn’t his child, their resemblance was a kind of fate.
However…
Ulric suddenly remembered what Sirena had just told him!
She said Jake was her child.
Though it sounded absurd, given his mother’s bias towards Sirena, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
“Jake, would you be willing to tell me something about your mom?”
Ulric could only ask tentatively, worried about provoking the child’s displeasure.
Sure enough, at the mention of this topic, Jake’s guard went up immediately.
“No! My mommy doesn’t allow me to say anything!”
Ulric realized that directly asking wouldn’t work.
He thought for a moment and then smiled. “How about this? You ask me a question, and I promise not to lie. You can ask anything! Then… you tell me your mommy’s last name.”
Jake shook his head. “No way!”
Ulric shrugged. “Alright then.”
As he was about to stand up, Jake suddenly grabbed him. “I can’t tell you my mommy’s last name, but I can tell you the first letter of her surname.”
“That works too!” Ulric agreed immediately and squatted back down. “Ask me any question you want.”
Jake racked his brain and then asked very seriously in his childish voice, “Why did you have me if you weren’t going to take responsibility?”
Ulric paused and replied with a very serious tone, “I swear I didn’t know about your existence.”
Jake clearly hadn’t expected that answer.
“Now can you tell me the first letter of your mommy’s surname?”
Jake pouted reluctantly. “It’s R.”
Ulric froze completely and instinctively asked, “Is your mommy named Ruell?”
