Contracted to the wrong Alpha
Chapter 39
Lilia’s Pov
“Want more?” He asked me and I shook my head, pushing the plate of pasta and chicken away.
“I’m fine, let’s go already!” I told him excitedly and he fought back a chuckle.
“It’s just a normal job, don’t get too excited,” Raven told me and tried to get my bag but I swatted his hands away.
“Don’t do that and stop acting like my bodyguard! You’re a beta to a powerful Pack!” I told him again for the umpteenth time today.
Raven was still reserved and stone cold but since Lex left for wherever he went, he began to loosen up. Treating me for breakfast and not even letting the maid I saw today serve me.
I thought I saw a side of possessiveness in Lex but Raven was worse.
“You’re Luna and not a speck of stress should be found near you..”
“You make it sound as if all this is real,” I told him as I got into the car and he shrugged.
“At least, you’re real.” He said and drove out of the mansion. My heart settled at ease as we drove past the glassy city, bustling with different activities and rising peaks of the sun giving the city a beautiful glow. Everything looked so new to me, after a month of staying indoors, I felt free.
Melody had reached out to me to apologize and she broke down in tears telling me about the death of her cousin. Blood drained my face and I suddenly kept quiet. I felt a twisting feeling of pain and unsettlement at the pit of my stomach, knowing that Ryker was dead because of me. I couldn’t tell her as I also wanted to defend Lex, he killed the douchebag for me.
I accepted her sympathy and told her about working in Lex’s company. She didn’t like the idea and told me I might get bullied but that won’t happen.
The destination we are now headed to is the headquarters of Lex Global Enterprise. It’s a huge twenty-story office building, all curved glass, and steel, an architect’s utilitarian fantasy, with Lex’s House written discreetly in silver over the glass front doors.
“Wish me luck Raven,” I told him and he chuckled.
“You’re not going for an interview Luna, you’re already resuming!” He said and I shook my head.
“I know but I might still mess up and get reported.”
“Alright, Fine. I wish you luck” He smiled genuinely and I gasped and took my phone out to snap him.
“Jeez! What was that for?”
“You look amazing in a smile Raven! And it’s the first time I’m seeing this, I’m fucking uploading this on my Instagram page! Bye!” I sauntered out of the car before he protested and made my way to the building.
It’s a quarter to nine when I arrive, greatly relieved that I’m not late as I walk into the enormous and frankly intimidating glass, steel, and white sandstone lobby. Behind the solid sandstone desk, a very attractive, groomed, red-haired young woman smiles pleasantly at me. She’s wearing the sharpest charcoal suit jacket and white shirt I have ever seen and she looks stunning. “I’m here to resume work as a position for the secretary to the CEO.”
“What’s your name?” She asked.
“Lilia Tyson”
“Three names please.” She said and I sighed.
“Lilia Tyson Conor.”
“Excuse me one moment, Miss Conor.” She arches her eyebrow slightly as I stand self-consciously before her. I am beginning to wish I had taken Lex’s card as Raven advised but I didn’t want to show up. I’m here to work and not flaunt myself as his Luna.
I tuck one of the escaped tendrils of my hair behind my ear as I pretend she doesn’t intimidate me because her glare is something else.
“You can’t be the secretary to the CEO, we already have one Miss Conor”
I gasped.
“But a mail was sent to…”
“And that was a system glitch, Mr. Lex won’t want any more burden for a secretary sequel to what we always have. An internship program can be given to you, it would be a great opportunity to learn in a great firm like this or I’m afraid the company might terminate your presence and the mail”
She uttered, flickering her eyes to anywhere but me which I found insulting.
I was supposed to be a staff member and not an intern!! But the thought of going back to the house and staying indoors kept my mouth shut.
“I’ll accept the program!” I said quietly but Audible enough to hear her.
“Great! You will learn from Mrs Isabella. She would be here anytime soon. Please sign in here, Miss Conor. You’ll start cleaning her office, which is the last elevator on the right, press for the twentieth floor.” She smiled mischievously at me, amused no doubt, as I signed in. I was boiling in fury as she handed me a security pass that had an INTERN very firmly stamped on the front. I can’t help my scoff!
Really? An intern?
I almost hissed out loud but I’ll endure all of this till Lex returns. Let me just be an intern for a few days or hours.
Just when I was about to take a turn towards the elevator, loud clicky heels graced the floor mannerlessly and I was forced to turn back.
She was a star beauty!
Damn! This was no other than Isabella Brickwood! The celebrity in New York!
What was she doing here? Oh Lordy!
Her hair didn’t belong to the world I came from, it was pure blonde and so silky that it shone in the reflection of the lights. She was dressed in a black high-slit skirt that revealed too much of her lap and a too-fitted white crop top that was almost spilling her full succulent boobs outside. She was too beautiful with an hourglass figure, blessed with divine tallness.
Isabella looks perfect and yes! She’s my favorite actress too.
“Good morning ma’am Bella.” The lady that attended to me flashed her the prettiest smile and bowed.
“Morning Jacinta, is my coffee ready?” She asked walking too fast and passing me by, Jacinta gave me a scolding look to follow immediately and I did so.
“I’ll get it right away Ma’am.”
“Please do so, is the intern available? I have an interview by 2 pm and my hair needs to be fixed to perfection. My assistant is sick so most of the duties would be done by her today.” She said and I hope I wouldn’t be the one to do that, every word came out of her lips with non-chalantness and sassiness.
“About that she’s right here ma’am though she mistook the internship to be a worker here,” Jacinta said and she halted and turned in such a way that she slapped her eyes.
“A worker?” She scoffed, looking at me like some disgusting piece of shit and I swallowed while Jacinta nodded.
“Didn’t tell her what Lex prefers? That dude would sack her at a glance, don’t fly so high darling; Lex enterprise is a dream come true but it’s not for you. Take this and follow me.” She dropped her bag on the floor and I bit my lips and fought back the scoff that threatened to escape from my mouth.
“What are you doing? Pick it up and follow her now!” Jacinta scolded and I nodded, bending down to pick up that brat’s handbag.
I didn’t picture Isabella to be like this, I loved her personality online but right she’s going to be a thorn in the flesh.
The elevator door opened and we both walked Into another building sequel to what was displayed downstairs.
But this time around, it was the front desk lady dressed in a blue satin Jumpsuit and he flickered to meet me.
“Good morning Bella.” She smiled genuinely and turned to me.
“Hi.” She smiled and I couldn’t help but return her pretty smile.
All I did was follow Isabella with her handbag to another elevator that seemed more outstanding than the rest.
“Uhm…He’s not around today.” She told her even though she wasn’t looking and Isabella placed her mid finger on her beautiful face in frustration.
“Lex is supposed to be at the office today! What the hell happened?” She whined and Lee growled in irritation.
“I don’t like her Lilia.”
I nodded in agreement, I don’t like this either.
“He won’t pick up my calls either, I just hope he’s done at Midnight Shade and come back already. I miss him too much.” She said again and I dropped her bag on the floor, hot wave of unknown and unexpected anger flowed through me.
Is this what I’m going to face here? But why the hell am I even pissed? No, I’m so Infuriated that if she says how much she misses Lex again, I might want to yell at her that I’m his Luna but I bottled it all up.
“And what’s that?” She glared at me fiercely and I flinched. There was something about her eyes that scared me and I swallowed.
“I’m sorry, it slipped.”
“Nothing should ever slip out your hands again or we won’t be friends and trust me, my enemies don’t end up well!” She spat out in irritation and it then that it struck me that Isabella was not a wolf but a Lycan.
She hid her fingers to the sides but I already saw it, the claws that looked like that of a Lycan only.
“I’m sorry Ma’am,” I said again and but my lips.
“Now get to work, starting with my office.” She fired and I knew a few days of with Isabella would be hell.
