“Everyone says I’m cold-blooded, ignoring you who have pursued me for years, but they don’t know that you never liked me from the start.”
Jaquan stood facing her without speaking.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door from outside. It was the staff urging, “It’s almost time, Miss Ellison.”
Marilyn sneered, “I didn’t mean anything by saying this, just a reminder not to forget our hatred because of others.”
As she turned around, her wrist was suddenly grabbed. Jaquan used some force, pulling her into his arms and burying his head in her neck, sighing softly, “Of course I won’t forget, Marilyn. I haven’t forgotten that we are partners.”
Marilyn didn’t struggle. She raised her hand to hug him, “That’s good. You’re the only one I have now.”
…
Paucaster Villa.
After leaving the hospital, Regan had been staying at Paucaster Villa to recover, almost never leaving the house.
Today was Marilyn’s wedding. The invitation had arrived here, leaving almost no choice but to attend. The Ellison family wanted to cover up the recent scandal, so Regan had to be present today.
“Look at this grand scene, full of acting,” Regan said indifferently as she curled up on a lounge chair, basking in the autumn and winter sunlight.
Callie was helpless. She picked a scarf from the wardrobe and wrapped it around Regan’s neck to cover the ugly scar. “Since it’s an act, just show your face. The Ellison family won’t say anything.”
Regan didn’t object and let her wrap the scarf around her neck.
“Thank you for taking care of me these days. After today, I have to leave.”
Callie frowned, “If you don’t stay here, where will you go? You can’t return to the Ellison family.”
“I know.” Regan smiled. “Do you remember the psychologist you introduced to me? Dr. Quinn. He’s a good man and found a suitable place for me to stay. It will be convenient for him to treat me.”
Callie seemed to understand. Regan indeed needed psychological intervention in her current state.
“But can you trust Dr. Quinn you’ve been talking about? Don’t get deceived.”
“Didn’t you introduce him to me? Are you not confident?”
Callie realized belatedly that it was Tobias who introduced him, so there shouldn’t be any mistake.
“If I don’t leave soon, some people will hate me to the core.”
Regan’s leisurely words reached the ears of the man coming downstairs. Nelson, dressed in a white shirt with an inch of his wrist exposed and two-thirds of his watch covered, stood tall and handsome.
He raised an eyebrow at her words, “Eating from the bowl and then cursing it, Regan, you’ve learned bad habits.”
Regan laughed. Callie ran over, “What time are we leaving?”
Nelson held her hand back, “We’ll go together.”
Callie was surprised, “I shouldn’t go.”
The man rubbed the ring on her ring finger, “As Mrs. Oconnor, if you don’t appear with me, people will gossip that I don’t have a wife who loves me.”
He rarely joked, and Callie’s face flushed. She whispered, “There are others here.”
Regan immediately turned her head understandingly, “I’m deaf.”
Nelson’s smile didn’t fade, “Let’s go together. There will be many such occasions in the future. Mrs. Oconnor will have to accompany me.”
He insisted, and Callie felt troubled, “But Sienna told me we wouldn’t meet again.”
Even after so many days, thinking of this still made Callie sad.
Nelson leaned down slightly and pinched her face gently, “Today is not about seeing her but telling everyone that I have only one wife, and that’s you.”
