Chapter 567: The Person in Your Heart is Not Me

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-12-12

Marilyn and Jaquan’s wedding banquet was held at the largest hotel in Ylosea, owned by the Ellison family.
Both the Ellison family and the Scott family intended to make a grand statement. The scale and spectacle were enormous. On this day, the two largest airports in Ylosea were closed for a day, all personnel were cleared out, and from early morning, one plane after another landed, each carrying increasingly important guests.
The hotel hosted 288 tables, inviting people from all walks of life. The top official in Ylosea personally acted as the witness.
The media reported it as a wedding of the century.
How much must a man love a woman to make such a grand announcement to the world that she is his?
In the lounge, the makeup artist read various flattering comments from the media with great interest. Marilyn listened, picked up an eyebrow pencil, and carefully drew her eyebrows. She looked at her heavily made-up reflection in the mirror, feeling a moment of disorientation.
With an attractive face, her long hair cascaded down her chest, slightly curled at the ends. When she smiled gently, she exuded an air of elegance and intelligence, embodying a true beauty.
It is said that a woman is most beautiful on her wedding day, but unfortunately, today she was not marrying the man she loved.
The wedding dress she wore was worth millions, with a luxurious train adorned with perfectly cut small diamonds. A tailor from abroad had rushed for an entire month to deliver this unique handmade dress.
The first time Jaquan saw this dress on Marilyn, it was perfectly fitting. He was momentarily dazed, as if seeing the girl in a school uniform from his youth, smiling and asking him to walk home together.
“Do I look beautiful?” Marilyn suddenly asked, looking at the man who appeared behind her in the mirror.
Jaquan rarely wore formal attire. Now in a black suit, he looked tall and elegant.
“Of course you are beautiful.” Jaquan leaned down, placing one hand on her shoulder. At that moment, he noticed a faint red mark where the dress was too tight.
Marilyn remained calm. “It’s just one size too tight. I can wear it.”
Jaquan withdrew his hand. “I’m sorry.”
“I just didn’t expect that the person who knew me best would one day get my size wrong.” Marilyn turned her head and gave him a slight smile.
This smile was like a blooming flower, but looking at it, Jaquan felt no emotion.
He straightened up. “That day I was just trying to save someone. I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I’m sorry.”
Since the birthday party, they had not seen each other again. All wedding arrangements were handled by Ahmad and Sienna. They moved like puppets, following instructions mechanically.
Marilyn also stood up to face him. “On my eighteenth birthday, my parents were busy with work. You took me out late at night and we climbed the highest mountain in Ylosea. When I got tired, you carried me to the top. At midnight, we saw the beautiful night view of thousands of homes together. You told me that we should always be this happy.”
“At that moment, I knew you truly liked me.”
Marilyn smiled suddenly as she said this. “But now I’m twenty-two. That birthday party was extremely grand; everyone congratulated me except you. I couldn’t feel your affection anymore.”
“Jaquan, the person in your heart is no longer me. Is it?”
With this direct question piercing his soul, Jaquan gazed at the woman before him without any emotional stirrings in his heart.
