Lilith’s POV
My heart was pounding loudly in my chest as I quickly looked over at Adams. I was caught up in a chaotic mix of disbelief and worry about what was happening.
We had been enjoying a peaceful and quiet moment together, but then everything changed suddenly. Cara had rushed to the room without warning. She looked extremely worried and panic was clearly written all over her face.
“Your Highness! You need to come at once!” she cried again with her eyes wide with a clear sign of desperation.
Adams and I shared a brief and surprised look. It was as though we were both struggling to understand the seriousness of what was happening.
I began to walk towards the doorway with Adams following closely behind me.
As we walked through the fancy and luxurious halls of the grand palace, we could hear our footsteps making noises as they hit the smooth marble floors.
When we finally arrived in the living room, I felt a deep sense of unease and coldness in my chest when I saw the scene that was in front of us.
Captain Kael was lying on the ground in a very crumpled position. Blood was seeping through his uniform, making it look even worse. His face was pale and light, which stood out sharply against the dark and painful wounds that were damaging his skin.
The atmosphere around us felt heavy and tense, as if the entire world was holding its breath and waiting for us to decide what to do next.
“Kael!” Adams called out loudly while hurrying to get to his friend’s side. He quickly knelt down next to Kael and looked at him with a deep expression of concern on his face. “Can you please tell me what happened?” he asked, filled with worry.
Kael was having a really hard time. He was fighting very hard to open his eyes. I could see that he was in a lot of pain, and it was clear on his face.
His expression showed not only the hurt he was feeling but also a strong sense of determination. With a great effort he gasped out the words “The rogues… the rogue king…”
“What do you mean by that? I need to know what happened to the others,” Adams insisted, with his face showing signs of growing panic as he spoke.
However, just before Kael was able to say anything else, he suddenly inhaled sharply and then fell backwards, losing consciousness once again.
“Kael!” Adams shouted once more with his voice filled with urgency and worry. He gently shook Kael hoping for a response, but the captain just lay there not reacting at all.
“This can’t be happening! No, no! We need to get the doctor, guards! Someone hurry and get help!”
My heart was beating very fast, just like the loud and worried shouts coming from Adams. As I felt a big lump beginning to grow in my throat, two guards hurried into the room. Their faces looked just as shocked and worried as all of us felt.
“Take him to the infirmary right away! We need to act fast!” Adams shouted with his voice full of urgency and concern.
The guards responded immediately, moving quickly to lift Kael’s body, which was not showing any signs of strength or energy. They knew it was important to get him help as soon as possible.
“Please wait a moment!” I whispered as I took a step forward. A feeling of warmth flowed through my body almost like a message sent directly from the moon goddess.
“Adams, I want you to know that I can help him. With my ability I can heal him!”
He turned his head to look at me and I could see the look of disbelief clearly written all over his face.
He asked “What?” His voice sounded harsh and filled with emotion, making me feel as if he had just hit me.
“No! Lilith, you absolutely should not do this. Remember the last time you tried something like this? You completely blacked out and it was terrifying. I can’t put you through that again or take that risk. It’s just not worth it.”
“Adams, you just do not get it!” I said urgently, moving closer to him, and feeling my heart racing wildly in my chest as fear began to rise within me.
“I have been getting ready for this moment. I truly understand what challenges I will be facing this time!”
“You think you’re prepared? Lilith, this is not a simple case.” His voice became louder and more intense as he spoke.
“What’s happening here involves Augustus and that makes it very serious. You could end up getting hurt if you are not careful-”
“I want to make it very clear that I am not afraid at all!” I spoke up, feeling my determination strengthening within me.
“This situation is solely not about Kael, it is much bigger than that. We really need to find out what actually happened. If the rogue king is somehow involved in this, then it is absolutely essential that we get answers!”
He ran his fingers through his hair, feeling increasingly frustrated. This made the lines on his forehead more pronounced. He spoke with concern, and said, “What happens if you collapse again? What if something goes wrong this time?”
“I want to make sure you understand my commitment when I say this. I promise that I will be very careful,” I said, with my voice becoming gentler but still full of resolve.
“We cannot allow this important opportunity to pass us by. Kael might have valuable information that we really need. It is necessary for us to heal him soon, Adams!”
Our eyes met and, for just a brief moment, everything else in the world seemed to fade away and become less bright.
He inhaled deeply, showing a mix of feelings inside him-love and worry were in a kind of struggle. “Lilith,” he said, his voice steady, “are you absolutely sure that you want to go through with this?”
“I certainly do,” I said firmly. “We really cannot afford to waste any more time than we already have…!”
