Adams’ POV.
Dale took a deep breath and raised her shoulders. I was taken by surprise when I noticed a new sense of determination in her.
“Even though I’ve been going by the name Dale, that is not actually my real name. My name is Adeline. I decided to change it so that I could fit in better with the soldiers. I was worried that if I used my true name people might start to question me or doubt me. All I ever wanted was the chance to get myself revenge.”
As she spoke to me with a great deal of honesty, I saw how interested I was getting in what she was saying. It was like tiny pieces of a complicated puzzle which had been scattered were beginning to fit together in a way that made a lot of sense in my mind.
“Adeline…” I repeated, letting her name hang in the air between us.
“You are destined to be Ronan’s mate. Do not break his heart,” I told her.
She seemed taken aback by the sudden change in direction of our conversation. “I… I don’t know what to say…” she blushed.
“Absolutely,” I answered while keeping my voice calm and steady. “But fate is something that you just cannot escape or hide from.”
As I spoke, I felt a strong sense of certainty in my words. It was clear to me that fate was intricately woven into the lives of everyone, no matter if they were ready for it or if it took them by surprise.
“I thought-” she hesitated with her strong facade beginning to crack, and I could sense her vulnerability coming through.
“I really think this is a private matter that needs discussing with Beta Ronan, Your Highness.”
There was sincerity in what she was saying that touched something deep inside me, awakening feelings and emotions I didn’t expect.
“Being honest and telling the truth is a sign of real strength. I want to praise you for being brave enough to do that.” Even though I was still a bit let down because of her first lie, I couldn’t help but admire her courage for finally being honest.
“Thank you very much, Your Highness,” she said quietly, her voice showing appreciation. Her face softened, and I saw gratitude shining clearly in her expression. “I promise to do my very best and not to let you down again in the future.”
I lifted my hand to show that I did not want to talk about it anymore. My face grew serious again because my sense of responsibility was more important than anything else right now.
“You can go now, Adeline,” I said. “But please keep in mind what I expect from you and from all the people who are supposed to protect my queen.”
The words I spoke felt incredibly significant and meaningful, almost as if I was making a promise.
They carried a weight that reminded her of the deep trust I was placing in her. I observed her as she stood up and began to walk away.
As she left, she nodded with a sense of determination, showing that she was resolute and committed to whatever lay ahead.
Immediately she stepped out and closed the door behind her. I let out a deep breath. I creased my jaw, praying to find some kind of relief from the tension that was in me.
Slowly, I walked toward my bedroom, hoping to meet Lilith. And it was granted.
Inside the room, Lilith stood in front of the mirror. Her reflection showed not just how beautiful she was but also how strong she had become after facing many challenges in her life.
As I watched her I felt a strong wave of longing and desire wash over me. It sparked a deep instinctive need in Ted-the need to connect with her, especially in such a chaotic time.
I slowly moved closer to her, wrapping my arms around her from behind and pulling her in tightly. I wanted to feel her warmth and the comfort of her presence next to me.
“Lilith,” I whispered softly, and all my hidden feelings for her came alive.
“You are everything to me. I love you very much.” The honesty of my feelings flowed through me like a powerful current providing stability and strength.
She leaned her head back slightly so that she could look into my eyes and I could see that her eyes were sparkling with feelings she was trying not to show.
“Adams, you put so much effort into fighting for our pack, but don’t forget to also fight for the people you care about,” she said softly.
Her words were a kind reminder to keep everything in balance, urging me to remember the love and support that keeps me grounded and gives me strength.
“I promise I will,” I softly whispered as I held her close to me, feeling our hearts beating together in perfect harmony during this special moment of calm.
“I will make sure that I don’t lose you to this war.” At that very moment, all the noise and confusion of the world outside seemed to disappear, surrounding us like a comforting cocoon as we surrendered ourselves to each other completely.
However, just when that gentle softness made us feel safe and secure, the door suddenly banged instead of a polite knock. This unexpected action completely broke the peaceful atmosphere we had created together.
“Your Highness! You need to come quickly!” Cara called out urgently with her voice filled with a sense of urgency.
This interruption disrupted our private moments and made everything feel different.
I suddenly went to the door, feeling a wave of annoyance rise inside me. I scolded Cara and said, “You really should knock respectfully on the door next time .”
“I am really very sorry, Your Highness!” she exclaimed, her face turning bright red as she understood that she had interrupted.
“What is it?” I snapped at her.
“It… is…!” She stammered, pointing towards a direction.
