He finished reading all the emails and realized she was Bubu. Her heavy emotions were no longer floating in the air but weighed heavily on his heart. Yet, at this moment, he lacked the courage to bring it up. Agnes didn’t mention it, so he didn’t want to break the silence either. He guessed she might be starting a new life… She had sent him a final farewell email.
Tom recalled the day he left, when he took her to the entrance of the community, and that boy holding a bouquet of roses suddenly appeared… Young and vibrant like her, they seemed well-matched. At that moment, he felt a bit lost and was trying to control his emotions.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing his prolonged silence, Agnes smiled and asked, “Are you planning to keep it a secret forever?” Her tone was half-joking, half-serious, trying to lighten the mood.
“Agnes, I feel very sorry,” Tom said gravely.
The girl held her breath slightly. “What is it?” Her heart suddenly raced with anticipation and fear of what he might say.
He thought for a moment, his mind seemingly blank, unsure of how to begin. After a while, Agnes felt her head heat up and asked somewhat incoherently, “Tom, did you ever like me? Even just a little?”
There was silence on the other end of the phone… A long silence.
Agnes instantly sobered up; she felt she had lost control of her emotions and said something she shouldn’t have. She suddenly regretted it and wanted to explain, but the words had already been spoken and couldn’t be taken back.
Just as Agnes was about to awkwardly change the topic, Tom answered seriously, “Admiration.”
Only admiration? The girl’s heart sank.
He added two more words, “And fondness.”
Agnes’s chest tightened. So it was admiration mixed with fondness? Did he just think she had a good personality? Was she excellent in some ways but not liked in a romantic sense?
Agnes couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed.
Soon after, she heard someone calling him from the other end of the phone. After a while, Tom said to her, “It’s already night over there, right?”
“Yes,” the girl replied softly.
“Then you should rest early and don’t stay up late.”
“Okay.”
“Goodbye,” Tom’s voice was low and gentle.
“Goodbye.” She was reluctant to hang up and held her phone in silence. After a while, Tom hung up first. Agnes still held onto her phone for a long time; she lingered on his voice and tone… He said he liked her.
That night, Agnes brought her kitten onto the bed, letting it lie in her arms.
“Meow~” The kitten seemed to sense its owner’s emotions and occasionally rubbed its little legs against her arm as if comforting her.
“Meow~” Its voice was soft and adorable.
“Go to sleep, Bubu. Don’t stay awake,” she murmured softly as she closed her eyes herself, her mind filled with Tom’s lingering image. The hug in the study room, that kiss…
If he hadn’t called Aunt Jane or known that Aunt Jane took her out for dinner and bought clothes for her, he probably wouldn’t have remembered her or called her at all.
When we truly fall in love with someone, our little emotions are countless. On one lonely night after another, we can only digest them ourselves.
The next morning at Emerald Bay.
That limited edition Lamborghini had been parked for six days.
“Aren’t you going to work today?”
In the spacious and bright dining room, there were seven or eight kinds of food on the table-a lavish spread. Jennifer sat in a white leather chair and gently sipped some porridge before looking up at the man sitting opposite her.
Ivan smiled and shook his head. “Of course not.”
“The company needs you for some important decisions. You used to be such a workaholic; now suddenly…”
“Is work more important than you? More important than my daughter? More important than my wife giving birth?” Ivan peeled an egg with a smug look on his face. “I’m just waiting for my daughter to be born now-sticking close by her side.”
