Lilith
Cloaked in surprise, my jaws dropped to the floor as I glared at him with widened eyes.
Disbelief overwhelmed me, and my body grew numb as his accusations sent me into the desert of confusion.
“Expose me?!” I managed to squeak when I found my voice as I was speechless with shock.
“For what?”
My curiosity started to irritate him as a frown played on his face.
“You will know soon. Until then, I won’t relent until I show the Alpha who you truly are!” He spat, smothering with resentment.
Rage flowed through his veins like lava.
My eyes blinked rapidly as I tried to process all that he had said.
“You can keep playing innocent, but I can assure you that it won’t be for long.”
My head cocked to the side, and I gritted my teeth in anger.
I had had enough!
“With due respect, Beta, I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else.” I tried to sound polite, but my blood started to boil.
I didn’t know where I got the courage from, but I felt good exchanging words with the Beta.
I was sick of being frightened by him.
“Are you sick in the head?! Don’t you ever question me! You can do that to the Alpha, but not with me. I will kill you without a trace, and the Alpha would barely notice your insignificant presence.” He lashed out, almost trembling furiously.
His eyes were reddened with anger as he glared at me like he was about to pounce on me like a savage beast.
But his words didn’t hurt me. Rather, his words stirred up the anger within me.
“You think so?” I chuckled, folding my arms around under my breasts.
“And what will you tell the Alpha when he notices my absence?”
“You think the Alpha cares about you? You are just another piece of trash. He is not in the right frame of mind. That is why he keeps saving you. Don’t get your hopes high. You mean nothing to him.”
“I don’t think so.” I shook my head, wearing a bold look on my face. “The Alpha will kill anyone that tries to hurt me, and I am very certain that it includes you if you try to hurt me.”
I watched fury grow wild on his face as he charged at me, but I remained rooted to the spot, maintaining my stand.
“You lay a finger on me, and I will report you to the Alpha.” I dared him, fixing my gaze on his red ones.
A smirk played at the edge of my lips as his canines and claws retracted. “I thought so.”
A sense of pride washed over me as I watched him retreat in defeat.
It felt so good to challenge Beta Raphael.
“No matter how the Alpha defends you, you can not come between us. From the moment I saw you, I knew you were a gold digger, an opportunist, a leech.”
My brows shot up in surprise as he kept hurling insults at me nonstop.
There was no point fighting since I knew he was just looking for excuses to make the Alpha fire me.
He could run a check on me if he wanted to, I knew there was no skeleton in my cupboard. I was clean.
I had no reason to be afraid.
“You can fool everyone with you, little sweet act, but you can’t fool me. I can see through you, and I will expose you!” He declared before storming out of my room in anger.
I had barely walked to the bed when the door opened to reveal Anna.
She barged in, slightly upset.
“You probably met the Beta on your way, right?” I chuckled dryly.
“Yes, and he was mad at me for no reason.” Her voice was raised slightly as she fumed around.
“It’s okay. Just ignore him. He is a bully.” I tried to calm her, tapping the space beside me so that she could sit.
“I’m still mad at you. I just decided to keep it until you are better. But you can’t keep it anymore.”
“What did I do?”
“You tried to escape without telling me!” She vented, throwing her arms in the air. “What were you thinking?”
“I’m sorry, I just…I was just mad about everything happening.”
“You just what? To even think that we had a long talk because of his attitude towards you. We chatted freely, not knowing that you had another thing in mind.”
I let out a steady breath, clenching my jaws. “But I would put you in trouble if the Alpha knew you knew about it.” I tried to convince her, but pain was scribbled all over her face.
“I was hurt because I thought we were best friends.” She spilled, lowering her eyes in sadness.
My eyes flew open as shock cascaded down my spine.
“Best friends? I already have a best friend,” I replied before scolding myself for ignoring Daphne.
She would be mad at me for putting my job over our friendship.
“I’m sorry I expected much.” She murmured, feeling withdrawn.
Now, she was making me feel like a bad guy.
“I thought we were just…”
“Friends, right?” She chimed in, and I quickly nodded.
Initially, I was about to say coworkers, but it would hurt her feelings more, so I kept mute.
It wouldn’t hurt if I made her my friend.
“Thanks for considering me as your friend. You know, I’ve been lonely all my life,” she blurted, a small smile resting on her lips as she blushed while looking at me.
“Oh, I’m sorry about that.” I forced a nervous smile before swallowing hard.
I felt bad that while she considered me as her friend, I saw her as a colleague.
“It’s in the past now. Thank goddess that you are here.” She smiled widely, enveloping her soft hands in mine.
“Was the Alpha mad at you?”
“Not really. He even helped me dress my wound.” I replied, intentionally skipping the part where I almost kissed him.
“That’s relieving. At least you have nothing to worry about. But don’t try to escape again.” she warned using a friendly tone, but my countenance shifted.
“I don’t think the Beta likes me.”
“He doesn’t. I wanted to inform you. I heard him argue with the Alpha earlier. He kept pestering him to fire you. He said all you bring was trouble,” Anna explained with worry washed upon her face. “You have to be careful of him. He is very dangerous. If he insists on something, he won’t rest until he gets it done.”
Fear trickled down my spine as Anna’s words rushed into my head.
“But he can’t hurt me. The Alpha forbids anyone from hurting me,” I refuted adamantly.
“Beta Raphael is as deadly as a viper. He will ruin you!”
