Author’s pov
Calix muttered a curse as the ringing of his phone shifted his attention.
Anger tugged at his chest as he grabbed his shoulder painfully before flipping his arm to fix his dislocated shoulder.
Stifling a groan, he released a sigh before picking up the call.
“Boss.” His rough voice said.
“You incompetent fool!” The man at the other end lashed out at him. His accented tone was a mix of anger, disappointment, and impatience.
“I would have knocked your teeth off if you were close to me. How dare you lose the girl?!”
“But boss, you didn’t assign the job to me.” He tried to defend himself as his anger spiked.
“I heard you were at the scene.”
“Yes, but I arrived late. Meanwhile, the girl was already saved. There was nothing I could do. How did you even know all this?”
“I got a call from one of the men I sent that there was a special girl found alone in the woods. She is a Rogue, and she is trying to escape from her pack. But then I kept trying to reach out. No one picked up my call for almost an hour!”
Calix cringed as the loud voice pierced into his ear, causing a dull ache to form around his head.
“I sent 11 men to hunt. Only 1 escaped because he was not seen. I also learned that 10 of them were dead and the girl was saved by an Alpha.”
“Sorry, Alpha, we will look into the matter soon.”
“Soon?” He asked. “I want it done now!”
“The ball is in weeks, and we need as many girls as we can lay our hands on. We also need to get this special girl. I was told that she was a virgin with a killer body. Her wolf was not sensed, so we didn’t know whether she was a human or that she was one of us. Plus, those kinds of girls are perfect for our best customer, Rodrigo. If he isn’t satisfied with the new intakes, he will stop patronizing us, and you know what that means? We can’t lose him, and we can’t lose her too.” He groaned in frustration.
“Do you have any information about her, Calix?”
“A little. She is close to an Alpha, and she works with him as a maid.”
“A maid?” He asked in disbelief before chuckling. “Then losing her won’t be difficult. The Alpha would barely notice she is gone.”
“You think she is of no importance to him?” Calix asked, scoffing afterward.
“Yes. She is a maid!”
“Then why did he search for her after she ran away? Why did he kill 10 of your men because of her?”
“That’s confusing. Maybe the Alpha is in a relationship with her.”
“I don’t think so. Moreover, we have bigger problems.” Calix’s voice accented as it was laced with worry.
“What?”
“One of your men is in the Alpha’s dungeon as we speak!” Calix broke the bombshell, earning a gasp from his boss.
“Bloody hell! How is that possible?!” He yelled, his voice shaky with panic.
“I don’t know, but the Alpha didn’t kill him. Maybe he has other plans with him.”
“He wants to track us. That is the reason he is keeping him alive. Ensure that the idiot doesn’t spill my name or I will wipe out his family and erase them from the surface of this earth as if they never existed.” He threatened, releasing a shaky breath.
“Yes, boss. Should the ball still hold, or should we postpone it to deal with that idiot in the dungeon?”
“And keep my potential customers waiting? No! Get someone to see to it that he is taken care of. You should keep going with preparations for the ball. It has to go smoothly. Does the Alpha know about this ball?” He asked in a terrified voice as he was covered in fear.
“The idiot would have told him. What should we do?”
“Seriously, you are so gullible that I doubt if you are my son. I should be relaxed, watching you put things in place, but here I am, panicking that you will screw up like you always do. Whether the Alpha knows or not, double the guards at the entrance, double the guards in the hall that day, and also mount some guards distant away from the event place. None of my customers should go home hurt. There should be no casualties, and everything should go smoothly.”
“Yes, boss,” Calix replied, chewing his bottom lip.
Silence hung in the air for a minute as Calix cleared his throat in boredom.
“If that is all…”
“No,” he replied before smacking his lips.
“Since the Alpha is attached to this lady, I need you to trace where the lady is coming from, that is, the Alpha’s house. His house shouldn’t be far because he got to her before my men could take her.”
“Their relationship seems interesting.” He continued. “Be useful, Calix, don’t get caught, and don’t fail me this time.”
“No matter what it takes, find this lady and bring her to me!”
“Noted, boss.” He spoke before the line went dead.

Lilith.
A heavy knock pounded on my door repeatedly, almost frightening me.
I got off from the bed, wiping the tears that stained my eyes with the back of my palm before taking long strides to the door.
I had barely opened it when Raphael burst in, almost sweeping me off my feet, except in a hostile way.
“Beta,” I stammered, trembling before him before bowing briefly.
“I saw you trying to seduce the Alpha,” he started. His accusative words made me sink into self-hatred.
“You think you can come between the both of us?”
“We’ve known each other forever, and I will always look out for him so that he won’t make mistakes, even if he is blinded by it.” He eyed me repeatedly before hissing in disgust. “That is why I am his Beta.”
“I don’t understand,” I muttered under my breath, my face creasing into a frown.
“I don’t know what you want with him, but I will never let you hurt the Alpha. Steer clear of him. He will never love you.”
“And as for your mission here, sooner or later, I will expose you!”
