Lilith
The swinging and slamming of the door caught our attention, and I flinched backward, lowering my gaze in shame.
My cheeks burnt bright red in embarrassment, and I hated myself for my lack of self-control.
Raphael strode in, his blazing eyes rested on me, and his aura signified that he was not pleased by the awkward sight.
He stood over us, growling lowly like a fire-breathing monster.
“Interrupting the moment?” He ground his teeth as his chest rose and fell in irritation.
I withdrew my hands from Alpha Casper’s grip at once, shifting far from his reach as I hugged my small frame.
I hated myself more than I was caught by Raphael.
Anyone, but him!
An awkward silence filled the room as I waited patiently for the ground to open and swallow me whole!
What the fuck was wrong with me?!
Why was I flirting with my boss?!
Tears burnt the back of my eyes as I looked out the window, scolding myself inwardly.
“And what the hell is happening?!” He raised his voice, tapping his foot repeatedly on the floor with his eyes flickering between me and Alpha Casper.
The heat of his anger blasted me and his aura filled me with fear.
“Can’t you talk, you little whore!” He launched at me, irritated at my silence. His rough hand grabbed the tip of my gown as he was about to slam me against the wall.
I cringed at his words, blinking back the tears that threatened to spill down my eyes.
“Let her be,” Alpha Casper ordered, maintaining his calm voice. He removed Raphael’s hand from my clothes and pushed him away slightly.
“No, Alpha, this thing keeps risking your life,” he lashed out in rage, emphasizing the ‘thing’.
“She does nothing but bring trouble all the time, making you kill people.”
“Bad people!” Alpha Casper corrected, raising his eyes to meet Raphael’s twitching ones.
“I don’t care.” He tore his eyes off before plastering them on my body. I felt like burrowing into a shell for the rest of my life.
“Now I understand why you were fired at your place of work. Trouble follows you everywhere.” He spat, glaring at me like I was trash.
Not a word spilled from my lips.
“You better not hurt the Alpha or you’ll face my wrath.”
“It’s enough. Don’t be too hard on the girl,” Alpha Casper drawled, standing in between me and Raphael. “It wasn’t intentional.”
“I need to have a word with you, Alpha, privately!” He stated, emphasizing every word before eyeing me in disdain.
*****
Casper.
“What was the meaning of that?” Raphael’s annoying voice rang in my head, reviving the little ache that I had.
“What were you doing in her room?”
“I figured she was terrified after all that happened yesterday and I also went to clean her wound.”
A dry laugh tore from Raphael’s lips. “So you are now the doctor. Isn’t that great?!” He said sarcastically.
“It’s not a big deal, moreover she apologized.” I shrugged.
“Look at you. For the past 10 years, you maintained a cold demeanor. But since you employed that girl, you suddenly changed. You guys almost kissed!”
“We didn’t. I was tending to her arm while she was surprised that I was already healed. Stop overthinking things,” I groaned in frustration, tapping my head slightly.
“That doesn’t look like what I saw. I saw a desperate girl trying to seduce you.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes at his lame words. “Lilith is not like that.”
“Now you are defending her,” he said, looking at me with eyes full of disbelief.
“You don’t even know her. You don’t know why she came here. What if she is on a mission?”
“Raphael…”
“Just say the word and I will run a background check on her. We should run a check on her. It was what we should have done before employing her but you got carried away.”
“Lilith might be a spy!”
I shook my head. “You are confusing things. Lilith is not a spy. She is not a threat.”
“And how do you know?” He asked, rolling his eyes.
“I think so. She doesn’t need to be checked. Just focus on your job, find the traffickers, and leave her alone. You are frightening her.”
“Open your eyes, Alpha, Lilith might be sent from Alec to ruin you the second time. I don’t think that guy would ever stop until he breaks you. We have to be careful of who we let into our life.”
“Lilith is just a girl barely surviving in this harsh world and she is faced with a sick person that she has to take care of!” I growled lowly, gritting my teeth as anger formed in my gut.
He was beginning to annoy me.
“There you are, letting your guard down for the second time,” his voice dropped and my heart skipped a beat.
He was digging into my past to prove a point.
I hated being reminded of my past.
The daily torture was enough!
“10 years ago, you said the same thing to Marina when she tried to warn you about Alec.” He released a throaty breath.
“We already settled and bygones are now bygones. He was mad about my father, not me. We formed an alliance and he is now on my side. But look at where that got you!” He tried to mimic my words.
My heart clenched painfully as memories resurfaced in my head, causing pain to radiate in me.
My breath grew erratic, almost seizing in my lungs, making me wish I brought my inhaler.
Without warning, I jabbed my fist across his shoulder, making him stagger before hitting his head on the wall.
“I hate being reminded of my past and you know it. Yet, you use it against me at the slightest opportunity.” I spoke roughly, walking over to him. My hands grabbed his collar and choked him. Relief coursed through me as I watched him gasp for breath.
That was what he deserved for bringing me pain.
After a second thought, I let him go, storming into my room before banging the door hard.
I walked up to my drawer, pulling out a bottle before shutting it.
Rubbing my fingers around the words on them, I opened the bottle, preparing to drown the content in my stomach.
I don’t care if death was the consequence.
Maybe I didn’t deserve to be alive after being responsible for Marina’s death.
The pain, the torment, and the torture were enough!
Gathering courage, I shut my eyes, tilting my head slightly backward before placing the mouth of the bottle on my lips, embracing death.
