Lilith
My heart dropped into the bottomless abyss of my stomach as the hair at the back of my neck stood erect.
Did I just hear him say he couldn’t lose me?!
What was that supposed to mean?
Was he in love with me?
But if he was in love with me, why was he cold towards me? Why did he hurt me?
My head was covered in a thick blanket of confusion as I tried to put things together.
Alpha Casper was a hard person to understand.
Maybe the thought of losing me reminded him how much he loved me.
My heart warmed in affection as thoughts flooded my mind.
“Really?” I asked. My words came out as a whisper.
I bit my lip, hard enough to draw blood before dropping my head on his lap.
I could tell that my cheeks were in a shade of tomato.
“Uhm…forget I said that.” He swallowed, clenching his teeth before releasing my hands from his and pushing them away from his lap slowly.
My heart sank in sadness at his actions.
“It didn’t mean anything,” he said, making me drown in the sea of sadness.
I’m so foolish.
What was I even thinking?
Alpha Casper, in love with me?
He probably had a mate somewhere. Plus, I was just a maid. I couldn’t compete with his mate.
I lifted my head in shame, masking my expression before my eyes darted all over his body.
They rested on the spot where he was stabbed, and I blinked twice to be sure that my sight was accurate.
“You were bleeding here,” I said with an accented tone, touching the already-healed spot.
“Yes. It’s surprising, right?”
I nodded slowly, staring at the spot strangely before peeling my eyes away.
“Yes.”
I chewed my inner lips as silence engulfed us. It was hard concentrating around Alpha Casper, plus his scent made matters worse.
I had to hold myself in place before doing something stupid. I didn’t want to annoy him.
“Are you not happy that I healed?” His accusing voice filled my ears, and I locked my gaze on him.
“Of course, I am,” I said before releasing a chuckle.
Last night was the craziest day of my life.
I wouldn’t forgive myself if Alpha Casper had died in my arms because I brought it on him as a result of my stupidity.
I didn’t even know the reason he kept saving me. But one thing I knew was that I had to stop putting him into trouble.
“About what happened last night, I swear by the Moon goddess, it won’t happen again,” I started. My hands were entwined in each other.
“I put you at a huge risk and I was stupid…I shouldn’t have tried to flee, not at night…I…feel so guilty because all I do is bring you pain and add more people to your murder list…” I stammered, trying to sound sorry. But I ran out of words.
“I remember saying that if I tried to run, you would punish me. But I still dared you, instead of respecting your title. I am ready for any punishment.” I stated firmly, getting off the bed and kneeling before him.
“I don’t care what it is. You almost lost your life because of my stubbornness. I am ready for whatever it is. I don’t care if it is 200 lashes or if you fire me, or…”
“You put yourself at a huge risk last night. You could have been kidnapped by those traffickers and sold as a sex slave or even worse. What is wrong with you? Why are you so adamant?” He asked in a slightly annoyed voice before his eyes softened.
“It’s alright. At least I didn’t die.” He replied calmly. I could tell he was about to smile, but he withheld it.
“You could have died,” I responded, wondering why he was suddenly calm and understanding.
Something was definitely fishy.
How could he switch from being harsh to being all sweet?!
“It would have been better than enduring all this suffering!” He suddenly yelled before licking his dry lips. His jaws clenched, and he sucked in a tense breath.
Suffering?! What did he mean by that?
Curiosity got the best of me, but I knew better than to ask him the reason behind his strange statement.
“It’s in the past. Forget about it.” He said calmly before releasing his breath.
“How was your night?”
His questions threw me off balance. When did he start to care all of a sudden?
“It was good,” I drawled, swallowing hard as my heart began to race.
“No, it wasn’t. You screamed one time. I could tell it was as a result of the killing.”
“Yes, I had a nightmare that I was still chased, and they all came for me,” I replied.
Swallowing the rest of the words, I tried to remember whether I had screamed. But nothing came into my memory.
I was frightened throughout the night, but his presence made me feel a sense of safety.
“I’m here now,” he stated, fixing his eyes on mine before enveloping my hands in his large ones.
Panic seized through me, and I almost collapsed.
“You haven’t healed.” He said, his eyes were on my arm.
The bandage was worn out now.
Thanks to the guys for rough handling me.
“Let me help you with it.”
He took off the worn-out band-aid, replacing it with a new one from the first aid box.
Carefully, he cleaned the wound with methylated spirit, occasionally lowering his head to blow a breeze when I was groaning.
Except I wasn’t groaning as a result of the pain. I was groaning as a result of what the cold breeze from his mouth was doing to me.
My stomach started forming tiny knots, and tingles danced around my body wildly.
Honey and chocolate assaulted my nose, and the sparks resurrected a foreign feeling in me.
Unconsciously, I pressed my thighs against each other, stifling under his seductive touch.
Get hold of yourself, Lilith?!
What are you, 16?!
I scolded myself, forcing the strange feelings out of my mind as I was close to losing the rational part of me.
He shouldn’t know that his touch drove me wild.
He was my boss, and according to the rules, I was supposed to maintain a professional relationship with him.
“Stay out of trouble, Lilith. I might not always be there to save you,” he warned. Before fixing his affectionate eyes on mine.
Unable to tear his gaze off, I lost control of myself, leaning closer to him. My lips trembled under his intense stare, and my heart accelerated beyond the limit.
My eyes shut slowly, anticipating his plump soft lips against mine.
Kiss, me already, Mr. Alpha Casper!
