Casper
Lilith was my mate?
Impossible!
It was like time stopped, and I froze on a spot, trying to digest the doctor’s words.
I gulped hard, shooting the doctor a perplexed look. I could feel Raphael’s eyes boring into my soul.
Surprise oozed out of him as he let out a burst of laughter.
“I don’t think so, doctor,” he scoffed, folding his arms around his large chest. “Or is there anything we should know since you hit us with surprises these days?” He turned to ask me with a nasty smirk plastered on his face.
“Lilith is not my mate. I am not even in love with her,” I tried to defend myself.
“Then explain how you healed by just being around her. From my knowledge, being around your mate will make your healing speedy.”
“Raphael, I am as confused as you are. All I know is that Lilith is not my mate, and she will never be. Have you forgotten about the curse? Moreover, if she were my mate, why hasn’t she healed? The plate I threw at her gave her a deep cut, but she hasn’t healed.” I explained, hoping it was enough to get me off their backs, especially Raphael.
“Fine. But I would keep a close eye on her,” Raphael replied, pinching the bridge of his nose before staring into space.
“I never asked you to. You have a lot on your plate already.” I cautioned him, getting irritated at his sudden hatred towards Lilith.
“Fine,” he muttered in a low voice before his eyes landed on the doctor.
“Since it has been confirmed that the Alpha is in good health, you may leave.”
“Yes, Beta.” He bowed in submission, walking out of the room.
“What about the man I knocked out yesterday? Did you see him, or did he escape before you got to us?” I quickly chipped in to avoid his annoying questions.
“Luckily, I arrived when he woke up. But I have taken care of him. Unlike the others, he couldn’t withstand the tough torture, so he only revealed the name of one of his bosses.”
Hope sprang in my eyes. “That’s good.”
“It’s not.” His voice plummeted in worry. “His boss answers to a boss that answers to the highest boss. He didn’t reveal their names. He threatened to cut his tongue when I intensified the torture.” He released a shaky breath with his palm hitting his forehead in tiredness.
“That’s discouraging. Do you have any other information?”
“Yes. He mentioned that there would be a ball and all the bosses would be present since the purpose was to sell out those that were trafficked.”
“Excellent!” My lips twisted in a smirk as I snapped my fingers when an idea hit me.
“I need you to go to the ball. But go with a lot of warriors. They can hide at a distance while a few of them will enter the hall with you. All of you should disguise as buyers, and when you notice their boss arrives and that they let their guard down, you strike!”
“Yes, Alpha.” He noted nodding his head before sneering. “I can’t wait to lay my hands on him.”
“But, Alpha, how do we disguise?”
“It’s a ball, stupid, everyone will make use of masks.”
His lips twisted in an ‘O’ form before nodding.
“Where is the new prisoner?” I asked, peeking out of the window.
“In the dungeon, all prepped up, waiting for you.”
I noted, smiling inwardly as I could imagine him being chained up and brutally beaten.
Seeing that the discussion was over, I headed to the door, placing my hands on the knob.
“Are you going to the dungeon?” Raphael asked, resting his eyes on me.
“No. I’m going to meet Lilith.”
“Really? We are discussing pressing issues that affected her, and you want to see her?” Raphael’s forehead creased in confusion as his lips were slightly parted.
“I’m starting to believe what the doctor said. Is there something you are hiding from me?” He folded his arms, taking daring steps to me, only stopping a few inches away. “Are you developing feelings for Lilith?”
I enclosed the space between us, pinning him with a terrifying look as my face hardened in displeasure.
“I don’t answer to you, Raphael. You will cease to question me! And I can visit whoever I want.” I spat in irritation, watching his eyes slowly peel away from mine.
“Or do you have a problem with that?” I asked using my Alpha tone. My voice switched to a more terrifying one.
Reluctantly, he shook his head before muttering some apologies.
“I thought so,” I replied curtly, slamming the door behind me in fury.
I let my legs take me to Lilith’s door.
*****
The door opened to reveal Alpha Casper, and I glanced at Anna at once.
“I’ll just leave and come around later.” she released a nervous chuckle.
“No matter what he says, don’t get him more angry with your words,” she whispered into my ears before standing to her feet.
“Alpha.” She acknowledged him, bowing briefly before leaving the room.
The air was tense with thick silence and fear tugged at my chest.
I tore my eyes off him, fixing them on the floor as I was cloaked by guilt.
Turns out I was wrong about him.
Despite getting him into trouble, he never hesitated to save me.
The heavy scent of honey and hot chocolate tinged my nostrils, making my body relax, but a part of me was still terrified.
Cold sweat broke on my forehead when his eyes dropped on my body, roaming around before stopping on my injured arm.
He made his way into the room, sitting on my bed. I felt the bed dipped under his weight.
Chills ran down my spine when his fingers dropped on my hand, pulling them closer to his lap.
Wild sparks exploded throughout my body, causing a blanket of goosebumps to sprout up. I tried pulling my hand away, but his firm grip kept it in place.
“I’m sorry for-”
“I’m happy that you are alive, but at the same time, I want to kill you. You have to know that I can’t lose you, Lilith.”
