Casper
I woke up with a jerk. My eyes flew wide open as a loud gasp rolled off from my lips. A familiar scent hit my nostrils.
Scanning my surroundings, I found myself in my room, on my bed.
My head was blank for some minutes before flashes of the previous night flooded my head.
Alarmed, my eyes darted around frantically, and my heart flew from my chest.
Lilith. Where was Lilith?!
I was about to jump off the bed in search of her, but a thought popped in my head, making me relaxed. Since I made it to the house, Lilith was probably safe in her room.
Why was I worried about her anyway. She was just my maid, and she brought this on us.
I burrowed into my bed, wondering how I got to my house.
The last thing I remembered was being stabbed with a silver knife, Lilith’s begging me to stay and then collapsing.
I thought that would be the end of my miserable life since silver was poisonous to even the strongest wolf, and only a few survived it.
Swallowing as Lilith’s screams stayed rent-free in my head. For the first time in 10 years, I felt important to someone.
My absence would hit Lilith with traumas.
Subconsciously, my fingers grazed the part where I was stabbed, and to my uttermost surprise, the skin around it was smooth.
Dumbfounded as I glanced at it again to be sure that my sight was working perfectly, I was met with no injury, and not even the scar was visible.
Disbelief hit me like a bulldozer, and my jaws fell open at the strange scene. I need a fucking explanation because I was certain that I got stabbed with silver.
How did I heal so fast?
How did I even get home in the first place?
As the questions flooded my head, a dull ache hit me, making me rub the spot.
Or was it all a dream?
I released a low groan, swallowing before allowing my eyes to dance around the room lazily.
I could swear that I caught something shiny, like a reflection on my table.
Getting out of bed, I walked closer to the nightstand beside my bed, leaning closer to have a look.
A frown descended on my face when the silver knife that I was stabbed with flooded my vision.
Someone must have dropped it in my room. Maybe the person that brought me in.
But what about the man that I had knocked down?
I hoped he hadn’t escaped.
I promised I would search deep into the earth to find him.
With a troubled heart, I sat on the sofa, opening my mind-link.
“Raphael, leave whatever you are doing and come to the estate,” I instructed, pinching the bridge of my nose as I anticipated his response.
After some minutes of silence, his voice flooded my head.
“You are awake, Alpha. I’m already in the estate. Anna called me. I know everything.” He said before going off the mind-link.
His last words played in my head repeatedly.
What does he mean by he knew everything?
What did Lilith and Ann feed his ears with?
If only Lilith knew that he wouldn’t rest until I’ve fired her.
The thumping sound of Raphael’s heavy book shook the floor and my door flew open.
“Knock.” I corrected, resting my gaze on him.
“I can see that you are better than last night.” He started before slumping on the sofa beside me.
“You brought me home?”
“Yes. When I received Anna’s distress call, I drove to the estate immediately, but then I saw you on the floor, lifeless with Lilith kneeling beside you.” He explained before exchanging an angry look again and clenching his jaw.
Here goes the nagging. I hissed, before rolling my eyes.
“Anna told me everything. You and Lilith got into a heated argument where you hurled a plate at her and she left because of that? I think it’s high time I knew what this girl is doing to you because since you met her, you’ve been soft! This isn’t you. No one argues with you. No one looks into your eyes. But you let her!” He flared, his tone accented.
“Why?!” He vented in anger, his voice grew shaky as if he was about to burst into tears.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll deal with her.” I tried to dismiss him, but he wouldn’t budge.
“The best thing to do is to fire her since she won’t stop putting your life at risk. First, it was at the club, then she made you fight 10 men at once?! What if he stabbed you repeatedly and you didn’t survive it? What would I tell the elders of the pack? What would become of the pack?” He asked, his insides twisting in anger as he stared at me like I had lost my mind.
But he was right. Lilith was making me lose my mind. Every second I spent with her broke the walls I built around me.
“Tell the elders to appoint another Alpha.”
“And what happens to me?” He asked, hurt evident in his voice.
“You will move on,” I replied nonchalantly, before letting a light chuckle.
It was the first time I did something close to laughing in 10 years.
“It’s not funny, Alpha. You keep killing people for her-”
“Bad people!” I interrupted, and my voice became more vicious as I shot him a deadly glare. “And I won’t stop killing anyone that tries to hurt her!”
I pinched the bridge of my nose, grinding my teeth as anger rose in my chest.
Raphael titled his head backward in surprise. His eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their sockets.
“Are you in love with her?” He scoffed, pinning his sharp eyes into mine. “You must be joking. Before she makes you do something stupid, she is leaving this instant!” He declared, jumping on his feet.
“Lilith is staying and that is final! Do you have a problem with that?” I cocked my head to the side, blasting him with my Alpha tone to assert authority.
“I can’t believe you…” The rest of the words hung in the air when his eyes landed on the spot where I was stabbed.
“Wait a minute. You had a deep cut here. How did it suddenly vanish?” His voice was laced with shock as he ran his hands on my smooth skin.
“You were bleeding from here yesterday. I saw it!” He screamed in disbelief.
“I know. You are not losing your mind, Raphael. I am as shocked as you are. I can’t explain it, I swear.”
“Thank goddess I brought the doctor, he’ll be here shortly,” he said before disappearing out of my room.
I released a tensed breath, gliding my hand over the surface, to be sure.
I was healed. But how did that happen?
In no time, the door flung open to reveal Raphael and my doctor, both rushing in my direction before I could drown in thoughts.
“Alpha,” he bowed his head in submission, examining me before exchanging a dazed and surprised gaze at Raphael.
I stood before them, my head was blank with confusion.
“The Alpha is in good health,” he affirmed, peeling his stethoscope from me. “But how could this happen without treatment? He was stabbed with silver if I remember correctly.”
“It doesn’t make sense,” Raphael concluded. His hands were on his hip as confusion enveloped him.
“Who was he with after he was stabbed? Maybe the person administered first aid or other treatments to him. But even at that, it’s not enough to heal his deep wound completely.”
“Who else saw me last night?” I asked, anger rising in my voice as I turned to Raphael.
I didn’t want anyone else to see me vulnerable.
“You were only with Lilith. Even when I brought you home, you refused to let anyone touch you. You went hours clinging to her in her bedroom. It wasn’t until you were deeply asleep that I was able to get you to your room.” Raphael explained, pinning me with a suspicious look.
Despite trying to recollect the scene that happened the previous night, it proved abortive.
Me? Cling to Lilith?
“I think I understand how the Alpha’s wound healed completely.” The doctor’s voice pulled us from our thoughts. Our eager eyes were rooted on him, awaiting his report.
“I think the girl named Lilith is his mate.”
