“That is unlike the Alpha. Anyway, I’m off to sleep.” Anna, Casper’s maid, announced, switching off the light.
The room was dark, save for the light emitted from the lamp attached to the bed.
Successfully taking off the slutty dress, I navigated my way to the bathroom.
When I was done, I changed into my gown, hanging my blazer in the wardrobe since I didn’t have pajamas.
The moment my back hit the bed, my eyes were wide open.
I groaned as I tossed, trying to fall asleep but all effort proved abortive.
Each time I shut my eyes, the dead man’s wails kept ringing in my ears.
His blood, his cries.
I couldn’t get it off my head.
How could Casper kill so effortlessly without an atom of guilt?
He was a monster without a heart.
One hour passed since I lay on the bed, unable to sleep and I decided to get some air.
Connecting to nature, especially in quietness, helped me a lot.
I grabbed my phone, giving Anna one look before leaving the room.
I could still hear a steady heartbeat and soft snores.
I turned on the torchlight to locate the balcony.
The house seemed like a graveyard. The quietness was scary, but it didn’t stop me.
After passing a flight of doors, I spotted a warm light emitting from some of the opened rooms.
The glow from the moon illuminated the room.
I was about to settle down on a chair when a voice jerked me.
“Can’t sleep?”
A deafening scream erupted from my throat, almost shaking the building to its core.
It felt like I was paralyzed to the spot. The menacing aura of the strange man had me in a firm grip.
Goosebumps sprouted underneath my skin, and I could feel the burst of air on the back of my neck.
When I was able to gather some strength, my knees decided to give way, making me collapse on the chair, almost hitting my head on the floor.
My heart thundered in my chest as I lifted my eyes to have a view of a strange man before me.
I almost hissed in rage as the figure of Alpha Casper towered above me. His hands disappeared into his pockets, and his eyes narrowed, piercing through my soul.
“Fuck! You scared me.” I cursed before letting out a sigh of relief.
My hands dropped to my chest as if studying my racing heart.
“Why are you stalking me?” I found myself asking as I got up on my feet, using the dull light from the moon as a guide to the balcony.
He took dominating steps towards me. His scent collapsed at the opening of my nose and his aura caused me to tremble.
“Stalking you? In my house?” he replied calmly.
He scoffed lightly and I could tell that he was mad at me.
“I’ll let this slide because you are new,” he whispered, grinding his teeth before walking past me. “It’s dangerous to walk around by this time of the night.”
I was thrown aback by his words, unable to comprehend it.
What was dangerous about his house?
But as my thoughts got deeper, his ominous aura wiped them away.
I could feel his eyes all over me, twitching as if he was struggling to allow his wolf to surface.
It instilled a great deal of fear in me.
His closeness stirred strange feelings up within me, making me shiver.
Silence hung in the air as our gazes were locked on each other.
His face was partly obscured by the darkness of the night.
“You should go to sleep and block his screams from your head,” he advised.
My eyes widened in surprise. How did he know the reason I couldn’t sleep?!
“It’s written all over your face.”
I felt air rush out of my lungs when the tip of his thumb ran down my face in a vertical manner.
My body trembled under his touch and I could feel my knees wobble beneath me.
I struggled to block the thought from my head, but it only worsened the situation.
I swallowed hard, shutting my eyes to take away the urge to graze his fine dark beard.
“You are too innocent to witness a murder, but have it at the back of your mind that this man and his gang tried to rape you. You would have probably passed out if they had their way.” His grip tightened on my jaws and I swore I almost passed out from suffocation.
My breath grew tense as the scent of honey and hot chocolate assaulted my nose, almost making me lose my senses.
The sparks that rushed down my spine almost caused me to release a soft purr.
It was something I had never done.
“Let this sink into your head.” He continued. His finger hit my temple.
“He is a bad man and he deserved death.”
“Okay, Alpha,” I drawled, heaving a tensed breath when he snatched his hand from my face and walked past me to the door.
I missed the tingling feeling that grazed my skin.
The moment our skin brushed against each other, I felt a spark of current dance along my body.
It took over me, making me almost collapse on the floor.
“Get a hold of yourself,” he spoke harshly, irritated by how fragile I was.
Sadness flashed in my eyes as he made his way to the door, leaving me alone on the balcony.
“Mr Casper?” I called, hoping he would stay.
Despite his intimidating aura and his cold demeanor, a part of me wanted him around me.
“It’s Alpha to you,” he corrected. My ears picked up the gritting of his teeth.
“I’m sorry…” I cleared my throat, thinking of what to say.
“I thought I should thank you for offering me a place to stay.” I chewed on my bottom lip, hoping he wouldn’t find me pathetic.
“Hmm,” he mumbled, taking his eyes off me.
“But can I ask for a favor?” I said, making him groan irritatedly.
“I already gave you a huge one.”
“I know but I wanted to ask that since I now work here, could I stay here throughout the weekdays and go home during the weekend? That way would reduce my lateness. I just want to serve you better.” I explained, pouting my lips and putting up a puppy face.
I could hear him mutter some words. Seemed he was pissed.
My head dropped in shame as I looked away from him.
I thought engaging in a conversation with him would help make him feel relaxed since he appeared tense all the time.
Plus this time around, I wanted to prove to him that I would be dedicated to my job.
“I’m sorry if my request bothers you. I just wanted to show how committed I would be. I really want this job and a key factor that would pull me behind is lateness. But I understand if you find it discomforting.” I added, waiting for his response.
“Fine, just do whatever you want.” He mumbled. “If staying here will make you feel committed to your job, then you are free to stay here. Anna will show you to your room tomorrow and you will be given a few hours to take a few of your stuff.”
The corner of my lips curved to form a smile and my face was covered in happiness.
“Thank you, sir. I really appreciate it. I won’t disappoint you.” I added, almost jumping on him as I could hardly contain my excitement.
“You better not. Also, Anna would give you a book containing some rules that you will adhere to.” His words came out harsh before he left the room, banging the door behind him.
Worry cast on my face as I thought of his words.
Rules?
What rules?
But that was the least of my worries. It was Friday already and I was yet to make a deposit of $1. 7k.
I was torn between asking my new boss for help or going to work as a maid for my father’s mistress.
I didn’t care if my father’s mistress and her daughter humiliated me, as long as I would get paid, I would do anything it took to get the money.
