Lilith
I woke up to a thousand messages from Daphne.
I could tell she was worried sick about me.
Yawning tiredly, I tilted my head to meet an empty bed.
Anna must have resumed for the day. Seems she was an early bird, unlike me.
I recalled our past conversations, smiling sheepishly. She seemed nice and friendly and her aura was relaxing.
Unlocking my phone, I scrolled past the messages from Daphne, glancing at them briefly so that I could join Anna and begin my work for the day.
I heard what happened, and I haven’t been myself all day. Where are you? I’m losing my mind!
Have you been kidnapped?! I’m at your place, and your door is locked. Your neighbor doesn’t have a clue about your whereabouts.
Please call me if you are safe or I’ll call the cops once it’s 7:00 am.
Pulling the notification bar to check the time, a gasp tore off my lips.
8:00 am!
The cops must have been parading my house.
Swiping past the messages, I called Daphne.
Her high-pitched scream rang in my ears, making me groan.
“You’re alive!” She exclaimed. The excitement on her face faded quickly, replaced by a scowl.
“I warned you not to take the job,” she started.
“I know, I’m sorry. It will never happen again. I’ve gotten another job, and I’ll be provided with good accommodation,” I narrated. My mind flashed back to my conversation with Casper, and I didn’t know when I started to smile.
“Great. Can I come over? I’m worried about you.” Her voice dropped.
“Were you hurt? Did he get to sleep with you?”
“No. I was saved by my boss. He is a kind man,” I blurted, biting the tip of my tongue.
I knew I lied, but I didn’t want to scare Daphne.
Casper was a cold-blooded monster.
“I was also told that you were saved by Alpha Casper which was shocking because he doesn’t give a fuck about anyone. I hope he isn’t your new boss? And you are not in his house? That man is very dangerous. I will advise you to leave immediately.” She said breathless in fear. Her words sounded like a warning.
Before I could respond, I heard my name outside the room.
“Daphne, I’ll call you back.” I hurriedly disconnected the call and placed it on the bed.
Anna walked into the room looking radiant. She was clad in a maid’s uniform with a napkin clutched in her hand.
“Good morning, sleepy head.” She greeted me, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Don’t wake up late next time or you’ll make the Alpha angry. His breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at a specific time every day.” She warned, dismissing my greeting.
“Is it the same every day?” I repeated in disbelief, throwing my head a little backward. “It’s not possible. There must be a day that he would be late for a minute.”
“No. He is an organized man and he hates lateness.” She said in a stern voice.
“Meanwhile the Alpha has been following the same routine for the past ten years.” She blurted, groaning afterward.
“Forget you heard that,” she said apologetically, gritting her teeth.
“For the past ten years? Why? He seems like a lonely man.” I added, trying to get some information from the maid, but she wouldn’t spill more than she had said.
“Let’s just forget about what I said. I didn’t know when the words slipped from my mouth. The Alpha is a private person.”
“Okay,” I responded flatly.
But I wasn’t satisfied. I wanted to know more about the Alpha.
Deep down, I knew he wasn’t a terrible person since he stood up for me. But his cold demeanor proves otherwise sometimes.
A part of me yearned for the information, but I knew I couldn’t force it from her.
“I covered up for you today, but I won’t be able to do it every other day because it would hinder some things.”
I nodded, registering her words in my mind.
Tossing the sheets off my body, I laid the bed, arranging the pillows on it carefully.
“Least I forget, the Alpha wants to see you.”
My blood ran cold as her words flowed into my ears.
Why did he want to see me? To fire me for waking up late?
My heart picked up a pace and started beating fast and I gulped hard, staring at Anna with a long face.
I didn’t know why his name instilled fear in me.
“Do you know why he summoned me?” I tried to ask so that I would be prepared for whatever comes my way.
“Is it because I woke up late?”
Anna stopped, she turned to look at me, shaking her head slightly with her hands raised partly in an upward position.
“It is impossible to read the Alpha. No one knows what is going on in his dark mind.” She added before flashing a sweet smile in my direction.
Her last words rang in my mind repeatedly.
What does she mean by his dark mind?
“Okay, tell him…that I’ll join him…soon.” I stammered, resting my scared eyes on her.
She cocked her head in disbelief, shooting up one of her brows. “When the Alpha says now, he means now. Go now! He is waiting for you on the balcony.” She barked, making me practically run.
It was as if my legs decided to stop working when I reached the room that led to the balcony.
I gulped down the fear that stuck to my throat as the back of the Alpha came into sight.
He was standing with his in his pockets, enjoying the outside view.
His scent filled the room and his aura radiated around him powerfully, demanding submission.
A cold wave of dread embalmed as I took light steps into the room, stopping a few inches from him.
I knew he had sensed my presence, but he kept silent. His eyes fixed on the trees.
Events from the previous night flashed through my head.
Despite the ventilation, cold sweat broke from my body. I rubbed my moist palms against each other, shutting my eyes briefly to summon courage.
When I opened my mouth to speak, words failed me and I stood rooted on the spot like a mannequin.
“Good morning, Lilith. Did you sleep well?” His baritone voice filled my ear, almost making me collapse.
I cleared my throat, swallowing hard as I almost forgot how to speak.
My lips parted to spill some words, but the words hung in the air when he turned to look at me.
I gasped slightly with my eyes pinned on him.
I drank the sight of his masculine figure and his toned muscles.
The way his Adam’s apple glided up and down each time he swallowed left me salivating.
I couldn’t take my eyes off his abs and how they hugged his shirt perfectly.
I was certain the moon goddess took her time to carve him.
His Luna must be very lucky to have him.
“Are you even listening to me?” he barked. His fingers snapping before my eyes got my attention and I comport myself at once.
What the fuck is wrong with me?!
Why was I drooling over my boss who belonged to someone else?!
You are such an idiot Lilith.
I scolded myself mentally before peeling my eyes from his body.
“I’m sorry, sir,” I lowered my head in apology. “Forgive me for waking up late. It will never happen again.” I blurted, not knowing what to say.
His face twisted in a frown and his eyes dropped to meet mine.
“When you are done staring, let me know.”
I let out a gasp, looking away in embarrassment.
I could tell that my cheeks were in the shade of a tomato.
How did he know that I was lost in his beauty?
I shouldn’t be doing that. He was my boss.
“I’m sorry,” I murmured, lowering my head.
He sighed, smacking his lips before taking a few steps towards me.
I was conscious of his presence and I quickly looked away from him.
“About last night.” He started, pausing briefly before resuming his words.
“I noticed you kept lamenting over losing your pay because you need to pay someone’s medical bills,”
My heart began to race at his words. I didn’t know where he was driving.
“If I can recall, you mentioned 1. 7k dollars.”
“Yes, sir,” I nodded. My voice came out in a whisper.
“And I also recalled you said the person would die if you didn’t provide the money at the hospital and that was what made you accept the offer at the club, right?”
“Yes, sir.”
“I’ll offer you $1. 7k so that you can pay up your debt. I don’t want your mind divided when you are at work.” I concluded.
I froze in shock, my eyes widely opened as disbelief coursed through me.
“I appreciate the loan, sir. I don’t mind if you take it from my salary…”
“It’s not a loan. It’s a gift from me to you…It’s a way of making it up to you…Meanwhile, this is between us.”
He hadn’t finished talking when I jumped on him in excitement, wrapping my arms around him.
I didn’t know what got over me, but I couldn’t control myself.
I was so overjoyed and I didn’t know when tears slipped from my eyes.
Finally, Mum’s surgery would commence with immediate effect and I could purchase part of Rose’s medications.
Finally, life was smiling at me.
We hadn’t stayed in the position for a minute when I was jolted by a sharp electric current.
It shook me from within, yanking me away from him.
From the corner of my eyes, I noticed he reacted the same way as I did.
I think we both felt the strange surge of sparks.
It was so surreal.
“Leave!” He was ordered, his voice sounding cold and distant.
