FRED
Who would have guessed there would be hundreds of hybrids in a world where unions like that were frowned upon? And to think their parents abandoned them after giving birth to the kids. I didn’t appreciate that. It stirred anger within me as I thought of the heartless parents who were probably still alive, having the time of their lives while knowing they abandoned their hybrid children after birthing them. It made me wonder why someone would do something like this.
Why want to have a child when you couldn’t even take care of them? It made little sense to me. Children aren’t meant to be discarded after bringing them into the world!
As they were on their own when you got intimate with your lover, the least you could do was take care of them. Or better still, give them to those you know would take good care of them. It wasn’t fair at all to abandon a child just because you could.
After the meeting we had with the hybrids, who assumed this was a trap, for us to get them together before doing away with them, Blue and I decided to help.
This was our next agenda. Because of our kids, we planned to make the entire kingdom look at hybrids in a different light. They had always thought hybrids were cursed children who weren’t even supposed to see the light of the day.
Now that they had a hybrid queen, hybrid kings and hybrid princesses and princesses – we discovered a few days ago that Chrys was a hybrid. Though we couldn’t tell what she was because she had yet to change into her other self, Devon believed she was a vampire hybrid. However, that happened, none of us could tell. We just had to wait until we were certain of her parenting. – it would be easier for them to accept them.
“What do you think about them?” Blue asked as we walked into the house. We had the hybrids brought back to the kingdom, and given spaces in the village Chrys came from. With the way, we erected buildings over the charred ones, you wouldn’t believe something tragic once happened there.
It was our bunny’s suggestion to build the town to make it a sanctuary for any who needed it, and we couldn’t wait to tell her what we planned. We kept the agenda of the meeting a secret from her so we could make it a surprise. We couldn’t wait to see the stunned expression that would be on her face when we told her of all we had designed for the hybrids.
We believe Devon might go over to the village to stay with them. This way, we wouldn’t have to worry about the pretty man spending time alone with our mate.
“Fred?”
Blinking, I recalled the question he asked. “Oh, I suppose they are just like Devon, desperate for a place to call home, somewhere they won’t be hunted. I believe the town is the best for them. They will remain there until we have spoken to the people and gotten their support. It’s the only way we can guarantee their safety.”
We didn’t just bring them back, we had guards positioned around the town to keep them safe, and away from any who might try to snoop around.
Until we had made the place a safe ground for them, we had no intention of putting their lives in jeopardy.
“True.” Nodding, he opened his mouth to say something else when we noticed Chris climbing down the stairs with a tired expression on her face. Chris had worked the longest, so Blue and I wanted to surprise her by setting her free, but she refused.
She reminded us of her vow to Bella, a promise to keep her queen safe and serve her all her life. She didn’t want to break the promise and let us know her stance on that. Our persuasions couldn’t get her to change her mind.
“My kings.” She bowed when she reached our side, yawning. “Those little devils and demoness are finally at sleep. I think I will just crash for the day. Can you please help me call Devon over? You can go pick Chrys up today. I don’t think I can do it. Having stayed awake throughout the night, it’s telling in my body.”
She looked so tired that she could barely keep her eyes open. For someone as strong as Chris, who always took her duty seriously, we knew she wasn’t playing when she said those words. She was indeed spent. It was on her face.
“Where’s Devon?” I frowned, looking around for the witch, who was always hovering around the children’s nursery.
“He’s in your Bunny’s garden with her. You -”
We didn’t wait for her to complete her words. We turned and left the building, rushing over to the garden. The thoughts of the pretty witch who insisted he was a witch, not a wizard spending time with our mates didn’t sit well with us.
Don’t get us wrong. We trust our mate with our lives. The one we don’t trust is that damned witch. We had seen the way he looked at her. We would be fools if we claimed we didn’t know he loved her. It was in her eyes and the way his face lit up each time he was with her.
We rushed into the garden, and went deeper, to our mate’s favourite place in the garden only to stop dead at the last scene we expected to see. The two talking, yes. Laughing? It was part of our imaginations, but not this.
Our Bunny had her right palm wrapped around Devon’s neck. She had him lifted in the air, with his legs dangling like he weighed nothing. He struggled against her hold as his face turned ashen white, but our Bunny held still, her face set in a thin light.
For a moment, we stood, frozen, as we watched them. We didn’t know how to react. Probably, we might have stood there had it not been for the strangled cry Devon had let out when he noticed us. We sprang to action at that, closing the distance between them as we yelled out for our mate.
“Bunny!”
