Chapter 55 A Duel

Book:Fist of Healing Published:2024-11-29

Garrett leaped into the air like a cheetah, transforming its entire body into a fierce projectile, charging at Darnell with immense force.
The tightly clenched fist became the only weapon in its high-speed motion.
Garrett’s fist sliced through the air, accompanied by a sharp and low whistling sound, closing in rapidly.
A ferocious excitement appeared on Garrett’s face.
The intense killing intent seemed to solidify the air, making it feel as though even the gentle breeze had frozen in this perilous moment.
Six burly men blinked their swollen eyes, standing upright with excitement, almost shouting out.
They hoped to see Darnell knocked down. This bastard had humiliated them so much.
However, things did not go as they expected. With a loud bang, Garrett’s projectile-like fist landed in Darnell’s right palm.
No one saw how Darnell moved. They only saw him easily grasp the hard fist.
Garrett’s pupils dilated, and his mouth slightly opened.
He felt his deadly fist first hit something soft like cotton, then was tightly gripped.
Darnell commented on the big guy in front of him, “Your strength is not bad, and your momentum is sufficient. It’s clear you trained your skills by fighting beasts. However, your moves are rough and lack effective impact. With some guidance from an expert like me, you could become more powerful.”
“Otherwise, you’ll always be just a gangster earning fifty thousand dollars.”
Garrett’s eyes showed surprise at Darnell’s words. He roared and sprang back suddenly.
Darnell released him.
“Shut up!”
Like an enraged beast, Garrett retreated and then leaped forward again. His body soared high until he was level with Darnell’s head, using rotational force to deliver a sweeping kick.
This kick aimed straight at Darnell’s head, destructive enough to knock over even a bull.
Several passersby at the alley entrance witnessed this scene and stood frozen, feeling the oppressive force of the explosive kick.
Their dazed eyes and shocked expressions revealed their deep-seated fear. Someone quickly called the police.
“Good timing!”
Darnell laughed heartily for once. He shifted his steps to dodge Garrett’s deadly kick and then grabbed his ankle.
With a swift motion, Darnell flung Garrett away. Two men who had just stood up couldn’t dodge in time and were knocked over by Garrett again, falling to the ground with cries of pain.
The three of them lay tangled together. The other men struggled to get up and shouted loudly, “Boss! Are you okay?”
“Move aside!”
Garrett growled and sprang up, shaking his legs before launching himself like a fierce tiger towards Darnell again.
He aimed another murderous kick at Darnell!
Darnell squinted slightly and sidestepped.
Garrett’s powerful strike missed its target because Darnell had mysteriously moved behind him!
Darnell spoke calmly, “Too slow.”
Garrett missed his strike but reacted quickly with a spinning kick that whistled past Darnell at breakneck speed.
Darnell retreated three steps, found an opening, and pushed Garrett away with a simple move.
Garrett twitched his mouth and turned to face Darnell again.
He roared and extended both fists towards Darnell in a frenzy of punches.
His footwork was swift, forcing Darnell to keep retreating under relentless pressure.
His attack speed was as fast as a viper, reminiscent of boxing champion, Muhammad Ali, at his peak!
Facing the dazzling array of straight punches, hooks, uppercuts… Darnell remained calm and steadily defended while retreating.
Garrett unleashed eighteen punches in one breath, each blow bursting with incredible power.
Darnell effortlessly blocked all eighteen punches with fluid movements perfectly timed.
As the power of the nineteenth punch weakened, Darnell grabbed Garrett’s fist and swept his leg across Garrett’s knee.
With a light crack sound, the forward-leaning Garrett stumbled but managed to stay upright.
Barely steadying himself, Garrett spun 360 degrees and delivered another dazzling roundhouse kick aimed at Darnell’s shoulder blade like a whirlwind cutting through clouds.
“Impressive!”
A hint of seriousness flashed in Darnell’s eyes as he chose to dodge by sidestepping towards a corner, just in time to avoid the earth-shattering kick.
Garrett’s kick struck a dumpster with a loud bang, spilling garbage everywhere. Broken bottles fell out and shattered into sharp fragments, gleaming ominously.
“It’s time to end this.”
Amidst flying garbage in the alleyway, Darnell smiled and charged forward. With an agile step, he kicked precisely at the inside of Garrett’s calf.
With a snap sound, Garrett trembled before collapsing onto one knee before Darnell. His leg had lost strength.
Several burly men rushed up, shouting, “Boss!”
Despite their eagerness to protect their leader, they were still beaten down by Darnell. Their faces were covered in blood as they jumped around again under his assault pepper spray attacks.
Seeing today’s unexpected defeat along with repeated humiliation enraged them further. Another roar erupted from Garrett as he pounded on the ground fiercely.
The airborne Garrett executed an elbow drop from above akin to crashing down like a wrecking ball, aiming directly at Darnell!
However, instead of retreating away from the impending danger ahead, Darnel advanced forward, delivering a sidekick thrust, striking the airborne opponent mid-flight.
With a muffled thud echoing throughout the alleyway, Darren’s foot landed squarely against Garrett’s chest, causing a slight twitch along his lips. Yet, Garrett widened his eyes and clamped down hard upon Darnell’s leg, refusing to budge even an inch whilst raising his free hand, preparing to deliver a final blow.
Unfazed by the situation unfolding before him, Darren smiled faintly, adding an extra force beneath his sole.
Boom!
Garrett’s imposing figure flew backwards, tracing a beautiful arc across the sky, landing heavily amidst six companions’ startled cries.
Tilting his head sideways and slightly spitting out a mouthful of blood, Garrett gripped the ground firmly, attempting to rise once more. However, his arms gave way, and he collapsed back onto the ground, prompting Darren to step closer, smiling down upon his resilient opponent and saying softly, “You’re injured. Don’t move around.”
“If you rest for three minutes, everything will be fine. Pushing yourself too hard risks losing a leg permanently.”
Upon hearing these words, Garrett fumed, a defiant roar erupted from within, struggling upright and trembling uncontrollably. He could barely manage to stand firm. His knees buckled under the strain, causing him to stumble backwards, step onto the scattered debris, and slip uncontrollably.
Darnell’s smile froze momentarily. He shifted steps instantly, appearing beside Garrett and catching his wrist to prevent him from falling backwards.
Seeing the unexpected gesture made Garrett instinctively kick Darnell’s abdomen, causing Darnell to grunt and retreat four steps. To stabilize himself, Garrett staggered and retreated two steps, hearing a crunch beneath his feet. Upon inspection, he was startled to find several shards of sharp glass crushed underfoot. Had it not been for Darnell’s intervention just now, its head would likely have collided with them.
In other words, Darnell had just saved his life.
His mouth twitched slightly, seemingly surprised that Darnell had saved him. Thinking about the kick he had just delivered, he felt a rush of guilt for biting the hand that fed him, his cheeks flushing with heat.
He pushed away the companions who were helping him and stopped the others from charging at Darnell, licking his lips before he said, “Thank you, and sorry.”
The six tough men were taken aback, not knowing what had happened, but they still obeyed and stood down.
“That kick of yours was quite ruthless,” Darnell said, rubbing his abdomen and picking up the undamaged takeout. “If it weren’t for the fact that you guys don’t seem to have much money, I’d charge you at least ten or twenty thousand for medical expenses. Forget it. I won’t hold it against you. Get lost, and the next time you see me, stay away. Also, tell David I’ll remember today’s grudge.”
Garrett didn’t respond and watched Darnell leave with a complex expression.
“Boss, why not keep fighting?” a man with small eyes wiped off the chili sauce from his face, discontented. “That man’s just a coward, only playing dirty tricks. If it were a real fight, I’d finish him off.”
Another man with a big nose also chimed in agreement, “Yeah, your kick must cause him to get internal injuries.”
“With two more rounds, victory would definitely be ours,” the others echoed, clearly believing that they had lost to Darnell’s dirty tricks today, not to his actual prowess.
“Shut up!”
Exhaling deeply, Garrett stated, “Ten wouldn’t match him. I managed to land a kick on him because he was trying to save me.”
Speaking of which, he swept the glass shards on the ground aside and continued, “Otherwise, I would have been dead or seriously injured when I fell just now.”
Seeing these glittering, sharp pieces of glass, the six men instantly fell silent, with a hint of surprise in their eyes, and felt a bit more moved by Darnell’s rescue.
After a while, the man with the big nose hesitated for a moment, then turned to Garrett and said, “Boss, what do we do now? Today, we didn’t get to beat up Darnell, and instead, he left us in disarray.”
“Not only will we not get fifty thousand, but I bet we’ll have to return the ten thousand deposit we already took. Once we return the money, we won’t have any money for food.”
“Return it. We’re not taking this job anymore.” Garrett decisively waved his hand and added, “We’ll find another way to make money.”
Darnell had saved his life. How could he go against him? Besides, they were no match for him anyway.
Garrett was very aware of this and thought about finding a way to repay the favor in the future. There was a glint of mutual respect in his eyes.
