Darnell held the takeout tightly and smiled faintly, “Which gang are you from? How have I offended you?”
“Are you Darnell?”
A raspy voice came through, followed by a burly man twisting his neck as he approached. Standing six feet tall, with round eyes, tiger-like whiskers, and tanned skin, he had the appearance of a menacing beast, exuding an oppressive aura.
Holding an old-fashioned phone, he scrutinized Darnell as if verifying his identity. His formidable figure resembling Sylvester Stallone made Darnell’s eyelids twitch. Clearly, this guy was no ordinary character.
This burly guy was at least a 6th-class warrior, probably the second strongest person he had encountered in Whiteville since Aryan. Whiteville indeed hid many talents.
“Yes, I am Darnell.”
Darnell admitted honestly and then asked, “Who are you?”
“Are you really Darnell?”
The man looked at his phone and then at Darnell before nodding. “Very well. You are indeed Darnell.” He gave Darnell a thumbs-up and said, “You are an honest man. I’ll go easy on you later.”
Darnell smiled at the straightforward gangster and asked again, “Who are you?”
“Who am I?”
The beast-like man pocketed his phone and replied, “You’ll know when you’re down.”
Before he finished speaking, Darnell lay down on the floor sideways with a thud. “I’m down. Now tell me who you are.”
What the heck!
The man and his companions were dumbfounded, their mouths agape. They hadn’t expected this turn of events.
Darnell reminded him, “We have to keep our word in this line of work. I’m down now. Tell me your name.”
“I’m Garrett.”
The man instinctively revealed his name but then roared angrily, “You’re too cunning. This isn’t what I meant by ‘down.'”
He swung his fist and punched the dumpster with a loud bang, and it shattered into pieces.
Impressively powerful.
Darnell said, “Sir, we’re in a civilized society. Why resort to violence? Have some manners.”
Garrett paused at these words and looked slightly embarrassed, almost making Darnell burst out laughing. He suddenly found this big guy quite amusing.
“Boss, don’t waste time with this lad,” one of the tough guys shouted with clenched fists. “Let’s finish him off and go home for drinks. The $50, 000 bounty is waiting for us.”
Another burly man twisted his neck and said, “He’s too cunning. Let’s just get on with it.”
Six men stared at Darnell like hunters eyeing their prey.
Darnell squinted slightly and said with a smile, “$50, 000 bounty? Were you sent by David?”
“Who’s David? Never heard of him,” Garrett replied nonchalantly.
Clearly unfamiliar with David, “You’re our first job. Today is your unlucky day.”
Darnell dropped the subject. It made sense that someone as proud as David wouldn’t personally order these guys around. But he was convinced they were Kemp’s men because he had few enemies in Whiteville. Only Roberto and David had issues with him.
If Roberto wanted to deal with him, Nick and the Apex would suffice. They wouldn’t waste money hiring others. Especially after Nick had just clashed with David, it was likely Kemp’s doing.
As thoughts raced through his mind, the six men surrounded him like wolves closing in on their prey.
Darnell sighed and asked, “Do we really have to fight?”
Garrett’s eyes turned cold as he shouted to his companions. “Take him down!”
The six tough guys roared and charged at Darnell with raised fists.
Seeing their fierce attack, Darnell calmly put down the takeout and maintained a cheerful demeanor. As they approached, he twisted his hands swiftly. Sharp sounds followed by flashes of red light ensued.
Three of Garrett’s companions screamed in pain and staggered back. Clutching their eyes, they stomped their feet and rubbed their faces furiously.
Seeing their comrades mysteriously injured halted the remaining three men momentarily.
At that moment, Darnell moved like a butterfly. His hands brushed lightly over their faces in gentle motions. Yet these three tough guys also retreated in pain like their comrades.
Taking advantage of the situation, Darnell stepped forward and kicked each one of them. Although they tried to dodge instinctively, they couldn’t match Darnell’s speed in the narrow alley.
One by one, they collided with the walls before falling to the ground, bruised and bleeding from their foreheads.
“What happened?” Garrett rushed forward in shock to support one of them. “What’s wrong with you?”
One companion blinked swollen eyes and shouted, “It’s spicy…”
They had all been smeared with chili sauce by Darnell. Their eyes burned so much they could hardly open them, let alone fight back.
Realizing this made Garrett furious. “Aren’t you ashamed of stooping that low?”
He hadn’t expected such a trick from Darnell. All six valiant men had fallen into disgraceful defeat.
“Isn’t six against one stooping low?”
Darnell clapped his hands clean of chili sauce packets before tossing them aside.
“Big guy, let’s get started.”
A wolf-like howl escaped Garrett’s mouth, silencing everything around them, as if casting shadows over passing sunlight, making everything feel heavily desolate yet majestic.
With each step forward, his muscles bulged, tearing clothes apart, buttons popping off, intimidating everyone present.
His gleaming muscles rippled under sunlight, hinting at an explosive power within.
“Those who hurt my men will be avenged!”
Roaring wildly, he advanced, his arms wide open and his eyes glowing fiercely.
Seeing this, his injured comrades stood up, shouting loudly.
Their rallying cries echoed throughout the alleyway.
Darnell’s smile faded, replaced by slight admiration. “Impressive.”
“Kill him!”
With a crackling sound beneath his feet, Garrett lunged forward like a cannonball towards Darnell.
Two formidable figures clashed!
