I still couldn’t move past seeing Asher and his mistress together. I hated the inevitable truth that as much as I hated the insane fact that Asher affected me, shamelessly, I craved for more of his touch.
I sighed, embarrassed by my thoughts.
I have been in my chamber since what transpired between me and Elena. And until now I haven’t seen Asher, and I had no idea where he might be. Could it be that he is avoiding me?
My door knob clicked open, causing me to jump up from the bed at light speed. I watched the door open, revealing Lanny, my maid.
” Luna, I came to check if you would be needing anything,”
I watched her closely and wondered if she had been in the castle long enough to know about Emily. After what Asher’s mistress had said, I was desperate to find answers surrounding her death. I knew Asher wouldn’t tell me so it was better I sort it out myself. I chewed on my lower lip wondering how to ask about it without giving away too much. After deliberating for a minute, I came to a discussion, and muttered,
” How long have you been working in the castle Lanny?”
She fiddled with her fingers a little and thought about it for a while before answering. “I have been working in the castle for ten years now,”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, that means you know the first Luna, Emily?” I asked before I could stop myself.
The instant I bit out her name, Lanny stiffened and shifted her gaze away from me. She exhaled, looking quite unsure to speak. “Luna, it’s a long story, and there’s no need to bother yourself with the past. It was a tragedy, and remembering it only brings pain.” She said,
There was something she wasn’t saying. Deep down I knew it, but I didn’t push further.
It seemed there was something about Emily’s death that everyone was hiding. Maybe there was more to her death and it could be the reason Asher was so caught up in her death and unable to move past it. It seemed like nobody here was willing to talk about it. They seemed uptight and scared whenever her name was mentioned. And the more everyone refuses to talk about it, the more I want to know about her death, whatever the past is. I was curious. Too curious.
” Thank you, for telling me this,”
Lanny smiled and her almond eyes twinkled. ” You are always welcome Luna,”
Unconsciously, my mind drifted to Asher, he seemed to have just forgotten me. He had not checked on me once or entered our chamber and Lanny had not even mentioned him asking about my well-being. What kind of husband leaves her wife all by herself on their wedding night? Could he ever want me to warm his bed and also be in his heart?
Could I ever get the opportunity to lay in his chest and listen to the soft beating of his heart? Could I ever be his last thoughts at night and his first thoughts in the morning? I shook my head at that thought gloomily.
” A penny for your thoughts,” A familiar voice pulled me out of my reverie, and I turned to see Robin leaning on the door smiling. He was wearing an ordinary blue colored t-shirt and black sweatpants. Immediately, Lanny excused us and scurried away.
” I don’t know where Asher was, he left the chamber last night and till now, I haven’t seen him. I’m also very bored.” I voiced my thoughts.
” Are you saying Asher didn’t sleep in the same chamber with you on your wedding night,” He asked in disbelief.
I felt even worse at his question. No, Asher preferred to spend our wedding night with his lover, kissing and fucking each other. He wanted her to satisfy him instead of me. She seemed to be good enough for him whereas I didn’t matter to him.
All those thoughts ran through my mind but I held my tongue back from saying anything to Robin. I didn’t trust myself enough to speak so I just nodded.
“Did something happen between you two? Like did you guys argue over something?” He seemed concerned. I was sure that he could see through the pain that was imprinted on my face.
” No!! Nothing like that happened, he just left in a hurry,” I said, not sure if I should go into details about what I saw last night but since I barely knew him he was Asher’s brother and not mine. I decided to keep some of my thoughts and concerns to myself.
” Don’t worry Luna, he will come around. Okay!! Sometimes Asher could be a dumbass.” He said, ticking his brows. It made me laugh. And somehow I started to relax and enjoy his presence.
He scratched his hair, ” How about we do some training to cure the boredom? What do you think, Luna?”
“That’s Great. When do we start?” I asked, giggling like a kid.
“Right, after you change into training gear, then we can proceed. I will be right outside your chamber waiting,” Robin said and turned left the chamber while closing the door after him.
Immediately, Lanny returned holding a training gear in her hand. I took it from her and inspected it. No way was I going to wear that.
The training armor was skin-fit and though it covered every inch of my skin, it seemed to be made of spandex. I usually sweated buckets and wanted some air to reach my lungs and skin preferably.
” Please Lanny, I can’t wear this, I need something breathable.”
” Okay, Luna. I think I have an idea of what you want,” she said and scurried back outside the chamber.
I paced through the room before she brought in a few other clothing options for me. I felt relieved to see her bring black shorts, a sports bra, and a loose tee.
That would be far more breathable than spandex either way for me, so I quickly wore it, tied my hair into a bun, and left my chamber.
