He then noticed that Johnny had called him dozens of times and sent several messages!
Johnny: [Where are you? Answer the phone!]
Johnny: [Bro, your son came to the company looking for you!]
Johnny: [Wow, you sly dog, you even have a kid now. Call me back and explain!]
Son?
Ulric frowned deeply, feeling somewhat displeased.
He never liked Johnny making such brainless jokes! In his life, he only had Rosalind as a woman; it was impossible for him to have any son.
Just as he was about to exit the phone interface to check on work matters, Johnny’s call came through again.
Ulric pressed the answer button, his voice heavy, “I’m working. Don’t joke around with me about this.”
“I’m not joking!” Johnny’s voice was so loud it could almost burst Ulric’s eardrums, “Your son really came to the company!”
“I don’t have a son.”
“Impossible! This has to be your son! Ulric, you just haven’t seen his face. If you did, you wouldn’t say that!”
Johnny’s tone was very confident.
But to Ulric, it sounded like Johnny was bored again and had found some kid who looked like him and was making a fuss over it.
“Have you finished negotiating the company’s projects? If not, I can send you abroad to keep busy.”
“Hey! Why don’t you believe me? I’ll send you a photo right now!”
“I don’t want to see it.”
“…”
Ulric rubbed his forehead. Staying in this unfamiliar city wasn’t part of his plan and it made him very irritable.
“Really! I’m not lying! Come back to Northville and you’ll see I’m telling the truth!”
“Anything else?”
Ulric’s voice was cold, clearly out of patience.
“I’m really-”
Before Johnny could finish, Ulric had already hung up.
But he didn’t expect Johnny to be so persistent. After being hung up on, Johnny sent a message with a photo attached.
Ulric didn’t have time to look at it; he opened his computer and logged into the company’s backend system.
Leaving the company so suddenly left a lot of things waiting for him!
Ulric started handling company affairs and saw the project contract sent by Sirena. But aside from work-related communication, he wouldn’t reply to Sirena with an extra word.
“Knock knock-”
There was a knock on the door.
Ulric got up to open it.
It was Cedric, carrying some food and drinks.
“Mr. Walters, you haven’t eaten yet. Have some food! I’ll go through the backend emails later; you don’t need to look at each one. I’ll let you know if there’s anything important.”
Ulric knew how much Cedric had helped him over the years; he wasn’t a harsh boss.
“I have nothing else tonight anyway. But you should get some rest early.”
Cedric smiled, “I’m not tired!”
Ulric stepped aside to let Cedric in.
Cedric set the food on the table and was about to leave.
Ulric said softly, “Eat with me.”
“No thanks! I’ll just grab something simple later.”
He knew his boss had severe cleanliness issues and only ate carefully selected food; there was no need for him to eat those expensive things.
“I can’t finish all this by myself. We can discuss work while eating.”
