Mollie then turned and left, catching the next flight back to Afupshire.
Regan hurriedly pushed the wheelchair towards the parking lot, muttering, “What on earth happened? I didn’t hear a thing. How did she suddenly get into a car accident and have an ectopic pregnancy?”
“We’ll talk about it later. Just take me to Oconnor Group first.”
Regan paused but complied.
In the car, Regan analyzed the current situation in Ylosea for her and then said, “Actually, you don’t need to worry. The Nelson family has deep pockets. Even if this drags on for half a month, it won’t be a problem. Jaquan can’t easily bring down such a large group.”
He paused and cautiously glanced at the rearview mirror, “You saw the news about Nelson and Marilyn, right?”
Callie curved her pale lips, “I know, it was deliberately arranged.”
Regan breathed a sigh of relief, “That’s good. The rumors and your current condition really scared me.”
Upon arriving at Oconnor Group, they went straight to Nelson’s office where Nelson’s grandfather was sitting, wearing reading glasses and seriously reviewing documents. It was clear he had been working tirelessly.
“Grandpa.”
Hearing her voice, Nelson’s grandfather immediately looked up and saw Callie’s battered appearance. He quickly stood up and walked over, “You… what happened to you…”
He looked at her with concern, not daring to ask too many questions or look too closely, clearly distressed and nervous.
Callie casually joked, “It’s nothing, just some minor wounds. I’ll be fine soon. It’s all Regan’s fault for making a big deal out of it and getting me a wheelchair.”
Nelson’s grandfather scrutinized her for a long time, heartbroken, “How am I supposed to explain this to your father…”
Callie held the old man’s hand to comfort him.
“Problems at the construction site are mostly resolved, but financially, we’re struggling,” Nelson’s grandfather sighed after hearing Callie’s intentions. “Oconnor Group’s headquarters and branches have tens of thousands of employees. The monthly cash flow is in the billions, not to mention various projects waiting for funding. The longer Nelson drags this out, the higher our risk of bankruptcy.”
Callie understood, “We need money.”
“I told you because you wanted to know, but Callie, don’t push yourself too hard. The Scott Group is in a price war with Oconnor Group. You can’t get involved,” Nelson’s grandfather reminded her with a sigh.
“I’m Nelson’s wife, Grandpa. We’re family. As family, we should share each other’s burdens,” Callie had already formulated a plan in her mind. “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best without forcing anything.”
Only then did Nelson’s grandfather feel reassured.
After leaving Oconnor Group, Regan finally dared to speak, “What are you going to do? Rely on our small studio or your savings? We can’t fill this huge gap. If you ask me, just let Nelson act with Marilyn. Once she’s happy, the money will come naturally.”
“Sometimes people have to take a loss,” Callie tightened her coat around herself. After a long silence, she said, “Regan, do me a favor. I want to see Ahmad.”
Ahmad was not easy to meet; he was a busy man with an unpredictable schedule. But these days, because of Marilyn’s illness, he had been staying at the Ellison family estate and not going out.
When Regan brought Callie to the Ellison family estate, she felt uneasy. She had little interaction with this father-in-law who was very imposing and stern. She was quite afraid of him.
“It’s okay. I’ll say I came on my own and just happened to run into you at the door. I won’t put you in a difficult position,” Callie reassured her.
