Stephanie’s POV
“Who do we have here?” I heard someone say from behind me, startling me. I turned around to find who it was and it was Sally.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, surprised. “How did you find me?”
“What were you thinking, Steph? That I’ll never find you?” Sally walked towards me, causing me to move backwards. “You really think you can get away from Marcus didn’t you?”
I moved backwards, not knowing what exactly to do. I knew screaming for help was out of it because it would raise concerns. I didn’t want anybody to find out about my involvement with the Lycans that were attacking the pack.
“Why are you running away, Steph? Why?” He asked.
“Where’s Sarah? What have you done to her? We trusted you Sally. You were father’s most trusted Beta, but you betrayed all of us.”
“Quiet!” He yelled at me. “You have no idea what I have been through. You’ve got no idea what I lost while serving your father.”
“It was Diane, right? On the night of annunciation, it was all part of the plan wasn’t it?” I noticed him moving towards me.
I took a step back, my heart pounding as Sally moved closer. His eyes were cold, filled with a kind of bitterness I had never seen before.
“You were always so quick to trust, Steph,” he said, shaking his head. “You never stopped to question what was really going on. Yes, Diane played her part, but she wasn’t the one pulling the strings.”
My breath caught in my throat. “What do you mean? Who was?”
He sneered. “You think your sister was innocent in all of this? He was no better than the rest of us. We all had our parts to play, and Marcus… well, Marcus made sure everyone knew their roles.”
I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. “You’re lying. My sister would never-”
“Would never what?” Sally cut in, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Betray her own pack? You’re so naive, Steph. Sarah was working with Marcus. He’d promised to make her his Luna in exchange for your father’s head.”
“No,” I whispered, shaking my head in disbelief. “That’s not true. Sarah would never betray the pack. She would never do that!”
Sally laughed bitterly. “Is that what she made you believe? She was using you, Steph. Just like she did with your father.”
My mind reeled. I didn’t want to believe him. Sarah would never do something like that. She was the one who helped me get away when Marcus and the rest of his pack attacked my pack. She wouldn’t have done that if she was the one who had sold us out.
“I guess you don’t know the truth about the two of you. Sarah is not your blood. She was your father’s whore. Your father found her as a baby and took her in, few years before you were born. But when she started growing, your father began to see her differently. He slept with her and made her his sex slave.”
“You’re lying!” I screamed. “My father would never do that,” I tried not to believe what Sally was saying but there was a nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach that told me he wasn’t lying-not entirely.
Pieces of the puzzle I hadn’t been able to fit together before were starting to fall into place, and the picture they created was one I couldn’t bear to look at.
I had always noticed something special in the bond that my father shared with Sarah. It was nothing like we both had. I thought it was because Sarah was his first daughter, and it was natural for every father to have a special kind of love for his first daughter. But after hearing everything that Sally had said, I didn’t know what to believe anymore.
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay calm. “Where’s Sarah?” I asked again, my voice barely above a whisper.
Sally’s expression darkened. “She’s with Marcus. And if you don’t cooperate, she’s not going to make it out alive.”
Terror gripped me, at the same time, I felt relief wash over me knowing that Sarah was still alive.
“What do you want from me?” I asked, my voice trembling.
Sally smirked. “It’s simple. You’re going to lead the Lycans right to Jake. You’re going to help us take him down. He’s crossed the bounds when he attacked three of Marcus’ pack members. He’s strong and the only way to get him down is through the help of an insider.”
I shook my head, backing up even further. “I can’t do that. I won’t.”
“You don’t have a choice,” he said, his voice cold and final. “Either you help us, or Sarah dies.”
“Did Diane suggest this to you? What do you two have against the brothers? Why are you doing this, Sally?”
It’s none of your business, Steph. I’ve told you what to do. You have two days to help us get Jake down or you’ll say goodbye to Sarah. I know you have questions to ask her regarding what I’ve told you, and the only way you can do that is if she’s still alive. So the ball is in your court now,”
I felt the weight of his words crush me, my mind spinning as I tried to think of a way out. But deep down, I knew there was no easy escape. Sally had me trapped, and now I had to choose-betray Jake and the pack, or lose the only family I had left, and my chance of knowing the truth about the relationship father had with Sarah
“I… I need time,” I stammered, trying to buy myself a moment to think.
“Two days,” Sally replied, his tone unyielding. “And if you even think about running, we’ll know. There’s nowhere you can hide, Steph. Not from Marcus, and certainly not from me.”
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing there, my heart pounding in my chest. As soon as he was gone, I sank to the ground, tears welling in my eyes.
What was I going to do?
