Jake’s POV
“You weren’t in your chamber when I checked on you, where were you? Seth asked, walking into my chambers.
“I was out in the training ground.”
“Training ground? What were you doing there?” I knew Seth wouldn’t just look for me unless it had to do with something very important which he wanted to tell me.
“Go straight to the point, Seth. Is there something I need to know?”
“Well, yes,” He sighed. He must have felt I was rude in the way I replied him. But if there was something about Seth which made him always command my respect, it was in the fact that he really understood me.
He was the only person who really had the patience to overlook even my rudeness.
“I’m listening Seth. Sorry I’m a bit stressed out,” I apologised, just so he wouldn’t feel like I was taking him for granted. Seth was enough to be my father, and had really stood by me while growing up.
“Flynn is injured,” Seth reported, causing me to jump up on my feet.
“How come? By whom?” I asked. Flynn was one of the strongest Betas in the pack, and also one of the few werewolves who had the privilege of gaining my friendship.
“He was attacked by a Lycan.” Seth replied.
I clenched my fist at my side as the word, “Lycan” echoed in my ears. Since we’ve been living as a pack within the estate, we’ve never heard of attacks from any other werewolf pack. The last attack that we ever experienced was the one that led to the death of our parents, and since then, it’s been different.
Now, hearing of the attacks, and how I had spotted a Lycan earlier trying to attack Reyna, I knew something was really going on that would soon escalate into something that we may not be able to understand
“When did this happen?” I asked. From Seth’s reports it seemed to look like the Lycan who had tried attacking Reyna was thesame Lycan who had attacked Flynn. He had blood in his mouth when I saw him and scared him away. He had leaped and scaled through the tall fence of the estate, and I didn’t bother to go after him, seeing that Reyna wasn’t hurt
“About thirty minutes ago,” Seth replied.
“Where’s he now?” I asked.
“He’s currently receiving treatment. He was rescued by some sentinels, but the Lycan fled before anything could be done.
I paced the room, my mind racing at the news of Flynn’s injury. A Lycan attack inside our territory-this was more than just an isolated incident. It felt like the beginning of something bigger, something we weren’t prepared for.
“He’s really injured,” Seth remarked.
I rubbed my temples, trying to make sense of everything. “Do you think they’re after something-or someone? This feels too calculated to be random.”
Seth raised a brow. “You think it’s connected to Reyna?”
I didn’t answer right away. The thought had crossed my mind the moment I’d seen that Lycan near her. But I couldn’t admit it aloud-not yet. Not without more evidence.
“I don’t know,” I finally muttered. “But I’m not taking any chances. Double the sentinels around the borders. And get a team to sweep the area where Flynn was attacked. If they’re planning something, I want to know.”
Seth gave a curt nod. “I’ll take care of it. But Jake… you might need to speak with John about this. If the Lycans are escalating, we can’t handle this alone.
Just then, the door to my room opened, and John walked in. “Brother, we need to talk.”
“This is about Flynn, isn’t it?” I raised my brow. “I heard what happened. Thank goodness it wasn’t worse,”
“Why didn’t you tell me you saw a Lycan earlier?”
“There was no need for me to do so. I knew Reyna would tell you. Or didn’t she?”
“This is no joke, Jake. The pack is no longer safe. You’re my brother, so we should be putting heads together to do something about everything that has been happening lately within the pack.
Seth paused, studying me for a moment. “I agree with the Alpha, Jake. Imagine if you hadn’t shown up earlier to protect Reyna, it’s not what we’re saying now. Don’t forget, she’s not yet a fully realised werewolf, so her chances of surviving a Lycan attack is almost impossible.”
I stared out the window, my jaw clenched. Seth was right, and so was John.
“We’ll do this together brother. I’m with you on this.” I could see the smile on Seth’s face. It’s everything he had ever wanted, for me and John to always do things as the brothers that we are.
“We’ll have the sentinels stay sharp,” John said, his voice low but firm. “Because if the Lycans want a war, we’ll be ready for them.”

Diane’s POV
I screamed for the third time, opening the drawers recklessly as my hand shook. “How? Why?” I asked, my hands shaking as I searched for my cigarette.
Just then, the door opened and a man in hoodie walked in.
“Hello Diane,” he greeted.
“Sally!” I knew it was him.
“What are you doing here? How dare you come into my chamber? You have no right to be here.” I screamed at him as he scoffed and walked deeper, looking at me.
“I guess your plans didn’t go the way you wanted it, you messed up.” He tainted as I growled.
“Leave now, before someone sees you here,” I screamed at him.
“I heard you got in touch with Sarah’s sister. She’s here right?” Sally probed, moving swiftly to my side.
“That’s none of your business, I’d suggest you get out of here before I call the sentinels.”
“The same sentinels who didn’t know when I got into the estate?” He asked.
“Why are you here? What do you want?” I asked and he smiled.
“I’ve missed you Diane. I just want to hold you tight once more,”
I scoffed and looked at him. “How dare you ask for that? You must be ridiculous. We both agreed I’ll be here till everything is settled.”
“But you’re gradually falling for Jake. I know it.”
“It’s part of the plan, Sally. So, just chill.”
