Marcus’ POV
Ryan walked into my office, his face a shadow of the rough day he had. “What’s wrong? Any news from Sally?” I asked, arching my back.
“Yes, Alpha. He’s found her her finally.” That was the exact news I wanted to hear, as I just couldn’t hide the smile that tugged at the corners of my lips.
“What do we do about Sally? We can’t trust him. If he betrayed his pack to join forces with you, then it’s possible he could snitch on you too.” Ryan was beginning to think like me, and I was proud of him for that.
If there was something the rest of my pack members knew me for, it was the fact that I don’t work on the basis of trust. I consider anyone a potential enemy and will only team up with you when we have a common enemy, like what I was doing with Jacob.
Being a Lycan had taught me that it’s better to be feared than to be loved.
“Keep an eye on him,” my smile widened.
“What about Sarah? Do we still have use for her?” Ryan probed.
“Of course we do,” I stood to my feet. “She’s going to play a big role in my plans, and not until then, no harm is allowed to come near her,” I made sure my orders were followed to the latter. It was what made me their alpha.
Ryan was about leaving when I called him back, “Any news about Jacob’s stepdaughter?”
“Reyna has disappeared into thin air, Alpha,”
My phone buzzed with an incoming call, and it was Sally calling.
“Sally, I heard about the good job you had done in helping us find Stephanie. You’ve really proven your worth within the pack and I think you deserve to be rewarded.”
“Thank you, Alpha,” Sally greeted from his own end. “But that’s not the reason why I called.”
“Really? Why’d you call?”
“It’s about Jacob’s daughter. I found her too,”
“Are you sure about that?” My grip on the phone the tightened. Sally’s words sounded too good to be true, considering how long we’ve been looking for her.
“Yes, Alpha. She’s together with Stephanie,”
“Isn’t this wonderful?” I chuckled. The two people I’m looking for, hiding in thesame place. I knew Sally wasn’t lying. He dared not joke with me about something like that. He knew what I’m capable of doing.
This was exactly the kind of news I’d been waiting for. Sally had proven himself more useful than I expected. Finding both Stephanie and Reyna in one place? That was an opportunity I couldn’t afford to waste.
“Keep a close eye on them,” I commanded, my voice low but firm. “I don’t want them to slip away again. This is the final stretch, Sally. Don’t mess it up.”
“I understand, Alpha. I’ll keep you updated.”
“Good,” I said before hanging up. I stood there for a moment, letting the weight of the situation sink in. Everything was falling into place. With Reyna and Stephanie in my grasp, Jacob would have no choice but to fall in line. He must be thinking he was the one calling the shots, only if he knew what was going on in my mind.
All of my life, I had dreamt of only one thing, and that was to become the supreme ruler of the entire wolf clan. It was what led me into becoming a Lycan. My unending thirst for power. Reyna was the key to that. An unrealised werewolf.
Ryan cleared his throat, bringing me back to the present. “Do you trust Sally enough to let him handle this on his own?”
I shot him a cold look. “I don’t trust anyone, Ryan. You of all people should know that. But I trust his fear. Sally knows what will happen to him if he fails me.”
Ryan nodded. “And what do you plan to do with Reyna once we have her? She wasn’t part of our plan from the beginning. It was Jacob who asked us to find her.”
“You think so?” I chuckled. I was already at the bar, pouring into my glass cup, some whisky.
“I’m confused, Alpha. Are we still dragging Reyna into our plans? She’s of no use to us, to any werewolf pack.”
“That’s not true, Ryan,” I shot a cold look at him. “Reyna is the key to controlling Jacob,” I replied, turning toward the window, watching the city lights flicker below. I took the down the glass of whiskey in one swift gulp, and then smiled wryly.
I noticed the suprise looks on Ryan’s eyes as he might be wondering what exactly I was upto.
“Jacob may act tough, but he’s weak when it comes to me. With Reyna in my hands, he’ll do whatever I say, and I’ll be one step closer in subduing his pack and buying the loyalty of all his men.”
“And Stephanie?” Ryan asked cautiously.
“Stephanie is… useful for now. She is just like the missing piece of an intricate puzzle, Ryan.” My lips tugged into an evil smile. “Once I have finalised all of my plans, I’ll put her where she rightly belongs, alongside her sister, Sarah.”
I heard Ryan let out a low breath. He was loyal to me, but he never liked the bloodier parts of my plans. It didn’t matter. I didn’t need his approval. I needed results.
“Prepare the men,” I said, turning away from the window. “We’ll make our move soon. And when we do, I want no mistakes. I want both Reyna and Stephanie under our control before Jacob even realizes what’s happening.”
Ryan gave a firm nod and left the room without another word. I could see the hesitation in his eyes, but I didn’t care. He would follow orders like he always did.
As the door closed behind him, I felt a surge of anticipation. Victory was within reach. Soon, I’d have Jacob right where I wanted him. And when that time came, he would regret ever thinking he could pull one over me,”
“This city, this pack-it would all be mine,” I laughed.
