Marcus’ POV
“We will strike in two days,” My voice echoed in the room. Myself and the other members of my pack have been mapping out a strategy to attack the werewolf who had dealt with my men.
Ryan had done a good job finding out everything that we needed to know about the pack which had cost us that colossal loss. I’ve only heard it was the late Williams’ pack which was now being ruled by his eldest son, John.
“It was Jake, William’s youngest son who beat up our men,” Ryan reported.
“Jake,” I sighed. “He’s always been trouble since he was kid,”
It was obvious the rest of my pack members didn’t know much about Williams’s family, nor the dark past that connected us.
Williams and I were very close. We practically did everything together and were inseparable, until Williams was declared Alpha of the pack by that lords.
It was after a battle with an enemy pack. Both Williams and I, who were still Betas in training, fought valiantly, subduing the enemy pack with ease.
Both Williams and I battled with the alpha of the pack, and even if we were badly beaten up, we prevailed in the end, but it was Williams who delivered the final blow.
After the battle, Williams returned to the pack as the hero while me, who had risked his life to protect Williams wasn’t even recognised.
He was declared the alpha of the pack, with everyone claiming he was the strongest werewolf even if we both knew it wasn’t true. I was the strongest, but my ill luck made it look otherwise.
As if that wasn’t enough, the only lady I had ever wanted was declared Williams’ mate, and that was how I lost the lady I loved to my best friend.
I was enraged, watching Williams take everything that rightfully belonged to me. It wasn’t long after that William had a son with Pamela, my love.
“Congratulations,” every member of the pack said, as they shook hands with him, leaving me totally out of place. I was bitter – really bitter, and at that moment, only one thing crossed my mind, and that was to eliminate Williams.
The following year, his other mate gave him another son, and that was when I became even more angry. First it was Pamela, and now it turned out to be Katrina. I couldn’t take it anymore.
While still feigning loyalty to the alpha, I was actually buying the loyalty of the other powerful werewolves within the pack, planning a rebellion against Williams.
The plan finally got implemented and with wolfsbane at our disposal, we were able to subdue Williams’ pack, but for some reasons, Williams ran away with his two wives and his two sons.”
My pack and I tracked him and his family for days but we couldn’t find him. He had disappeared into thin air. Because of the rebellion against Williams pack, the moon goddesses stepped into the picture, and cursed me and my pack members, turning all of us into Lycans.
I have long sworn to have my revenge on Williams, until one day the news of his sudden death reached me and my pack.
“Are we taking down the entire pack?” Ryan asked, looking me on the eye. Merely looking at Ryan, one could see just now angry he was. His younger brother was one of the Werewolves that had been taken down by Jake, and he really wanted to have his revenge.
“No we’re not,” I replied.
I could see the surprise look in their eyes. They were not expecting me to object to taking down an entire pack for the sake of my fallen men, but I had other plans.
I wanted to humiliate Jake, to make him know that it was a crime punishable by death to lay a hand on any of men, but to do that, I’ll have to take his brother into my custody.
“I’ll make the Alpha position so useless,. and the aim of it is to make it known to all that one doesn’t need to be an Alpha to be powerful.”
Ryan wasn’t convinced. I could see his fists clenched at his side. He wanted us to take down the entire pack. That was the reason he had taken it upon himself to investigate the cause of the deaths and to get to the bottom of it.
“But, Marcus…”
“Relax, Ryan,” I offered him a wicked smile.
He seemed to finally understand, even if there were still some elements of skepticism in his eyes.
“You’ll be the one to lead the operation, Ryan” I instructed, without mincing words. “The goal is to capture the eldest and make the younger one come begging. That’s when we’ll kill both of them.”
“Noted, Marcus…” Ryan finally acknowledged.
There were some murmurings from those seated, but it didn’t get to me. The few people I wanted to get on my side had already agreed, most especially Ryan who already had a reason to fight.
I dismissed the others but asked Ryan and a few of my own Betas to wait behind.
“I don’t want mistakes this time around. You’re to bring him to me alive, and I mean alive. Then you’re to leave a threatening message for Jake. He must know that he had crossed the limit, and cannot escape the consequences.
“I can’t wait to crush the bones of that Jake,” Ryan’s eyes blazed with anger. “I’ll make sure he pays for what he’s done.”
“Calm down, Ryan,” I patted him on the back. “There’s no need hurrying into a fight that you’re sure you’ll win.”
“Hmmmm,” Ryan sighed, releasing his clenched first.
“So, just keep it cool. The alpha brothers don’t know what is coming their way. They’ll wish they never crossed path with me.” I assured him.
It was time to settle old scores and I was ready – much more ready than any other member of my pack.
“It was time for revenge!”
