Jake’s POV
A knock resounded through the door as Seth walked in, his eyes taking in the pack of cigarettes and other items on the table. I was standing behind the window, looking out.
From his posture, Seth could swear that I was in a complicated mood from having stayed with him for almost all his life.
“You look__”
“What news did you bring?” I asked, not wanting to beat around the bush.
I knew Seth too well. He wouldn’t just come into my room unless he has something important to say to me. Sometimes I wonder if he just loved breaking terrible news to me, or passing John’s instructions to me?
“You’re thinking again, I can see it, your shoulders are slumping.”
“It’s my business Seth,” I scoffed.
“Your business? Is that so?” Seth never ceased to remind me of my mom.
“How’s my brother? Did he send you to come and fetch me?” I asked, this time turning around to look at Seth
“Last i checked, he was with Lord Bernard. The other lords are coming down tonight.”
“The other lords? Why?” I just couldn’t hide my surprise. We didn’t discuss anything about having the other lords around during the last meeting we held, and now hearing about it from Seth, really got me surprised.
“The Lycans are increasing in number, Jake and it’s really becoming a reason to be concerned,” Seth replied.
“How is the numerical increase of the Lycans related to the coming of the lords?” I pressed.
“Well, I don’t know,” Seth admitted painfully. “So how’s your training with Reyna? I noticed you stopped training with her, why?
“Do I really have to answer that?” I shrugged.
“I’m waiting,” Seth gave me that look that always reminded me that even if I was all grown and powerful now, I was still the little boy that grew up under him. Everything I knew as far as being a werewolf is concerned, I learnt from him.
I don’t think it’s wise to continue training someone whose identity as a werewolf has not been confirmed. Besides, my brother only asked me to train her in his absence. Ever since he returned, I’m sure he has taken over,”
I knew for sure that Seth didn’t buy that story. He could already see through me, and he knew I was lying. Of course I was. The reason I had stopped training with Reyna was because I’m no longer of what we are.
I was aware of John’s love for her and I wanted to respect that love.
“That’s not true, Jake.” Seth gave me a weird smile. “I just want you to be careful.”
“Careful? Why?” I couldn’t resist the urge to ask. Seth wasn’t the type who would just go about telling people to be careful, except there was a reason for it.
“Come with me. There’s something I want to show you,”
“What’s that?” I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.
“Just come with me. You’ll find out when we get there.”
As we stepped out, I couldn’t help but wonder what it was that Seth wanted to show me, and where it was he was taking me, but I was sure that whatever it was, it would be something really important.

Diane’s POV
“You sent for me mistress Diane.” Nene said, walking into the bedroom. “Is it true what I’m hearing ?” She asked, much to my surprise.
Nene was my student, one of the few werewolves that was assigned under me.
“What have you heard?” I asked her.
“That the Alpha’s mate will be declared soon.” Nene replied, causing me to jump on my feet. ” The Alpha’s Mate will be declared soon? I didn’t hear about it. Where did you hear it from?”
“I overheard the sentinels talking about it. The other lords of the werewolf clan are coming over, and they’re coming to pick a mate for the Alpha.” Nene replies confidently.
I couldn’t believe I had been so busy attending to other stuffs that I had missed something so important.
“Thank you Nene for informing me about it. But that’s not the reason I called for you.”
“So why did you call for me, mistress?” She asked.
“I want you to help me keep an eye on someone,” I placed the burning cigarette into her hand, pushing it to her lips. “Have a taste.”
“But I’ve not taken this before?” Nene replied, surprised that I was asking her to smoke, but she knew she couldn’t say no.
Reluctantly, she took a long draw from it, coughing as I smiled. “You’re one strong lady,” I commended her. I knew she was full of potentials and if she goes that way, she might eventually become the Luna of a pack.
“Who do you want me to keep an eye on?” Nene asked, still coughing.
“It’s Stephanie,” I’ve been having strange feelings about her since the very day that the alpha brought her into the pack. Even, if her story sounded so convincingly true, I still had my doubts.
“Did she do something wrong?” Nene had to probe.
“You are in no place to ask me such question!” My voice sounded a bit harsh. But I had to remind her that as my student, she had no right to ask me that question.
“I’m sorry, Mistress,” she quickly apologised.
“That’s alright, you can return to your chambers,”
As she walked out, I pulled out my drawer and lit a cigarette with shaky hands.
There was something off about Stephanie and I needed to know what it was. I was having the feeling that I’ve seen her before, but I have not been able to figure out where or when.
“The other lords are coming over to pick a mate for the alpha. Interesting!” I blew out the smoke from my cigarette.
