Richard waited patiently. Many years have passed. How can he not know that Luna was pregnant? How can he not know?
He pulled her hand and placed it on his left chest, exactly where his heart beat and said “swear to me, Luna, if my question doesn’t deserve a positive answer, swear to me!” He demanded.
Luna pulled her hand off and glared at him. He wants her to feel his heart beating and then swear to him that she has his son at the time he was frolicking around with the mischievous woman he married.
“What if I was pregnant? What’s your business with that? Who says my son was fathered by you? You are not in any way related to my son. And yes, I had a son” Luna bellowed, her eyes locked with his.
Richard’s eyes went tender. He gradually softened his gaze and he asked “Why didn’t you let me know that you were pregnant? I could have raised my son even if you were locked behind bars…” he demanded, his tone filled with resentment.
“Why would I tell you about a son that is not yours? He’s not your son and you don’t have a business raising my son for me” Luna replied, her eyes welled up with tears.
He would have been a great dad. But Anna would have killed her son if she ever told him about the baby. It’s better that her son grew up somewhere else than with Anna and that demon-like son of hers.
“You’re lying Luna. Spending those years in jail has turned you into a petty liar? Who trained you and soiled that Innocence in you? You can lie to others who don’t know who you used to be, but not me.
You’re terrible when you lie. Your facial expression displays the truth and your tongue speaks lies. I go with the one that is sincere and not the words that sprout from the head and not from the heart.
If you were pregnant and you had a son, that son is mine. I am telling you that I fathered your son and don’t you dare lie to me about my son” Richard seethed.
He knew her, her purity, her sincerity, her honesty and everything else. He knows how a sweet woman she was and like the back of his palm, he used to know. So he’s not taking that lie she just sprouted.
“Are you going to know better than the woman who carried a pregnancy for months, who the father of her son is?” Luna denied further.
“Listen to me, we’re both adults, mature and experienced. We could go for grandparents and no one is going to blink an eye at that. You know that I was the first and the only man you ever slept with before you were accused.
I may not know after that time but before being accused, I know that you only loved me and I was your boyfriend. Did you remember that you were with me the entire night before you were accused?” Richard blurted, now his temper was flaring up.
“Yes, I loved you and because of that love, I got ruined. You couldn’t even wait for me to get into jail before you got involved with Anna and got married to her. You abandoned me in prison even if you claim to believe that I was innocent.
So why should I tell you that I was pregnant with your child? How was I going to see you and inform you about it, that I was pregnant?
I thought you loved me as much as I loved you but I was wrong. You had always wanted that witch Anna despite knowing that she set me up, that she was responsible for everything that happened to me…” Luna blurted, her eyes cloudy and her voice choked.
She tried to hold back her tears, to act brave and strong but she couldn’t. She’d been shedding those tears silently for many years and now that she saw him staring at her, she couldn’t hold back.
Her tears cascaded down her cheeks and she sniffled. No matter what happened, she cannot forget what had befallen her because she loved the wrong man.
Richard was dazed. So much information from her. Yes, she was pregnant with his child back then, his son to be precise. Anna was responsible for it and he didn’t check on her but went ahead to get married to the woman he loves.
How can she say that? Seeing her tears, he looked away. He was wrong, but it wasn’t his fault. He was putting things in order when her lawyer told him that his client had forbidden him from getting involved.
“I’m sorry that you were accused innocently. But you can’t assume that Anna was responsible for it without any evidence. It is a criminal offence for you to accuse someone without evidence” Richard cautioned.
But a part of him was trying to connect the two together. What he heard Anna said earlier and Luna’s words, makes him begin to think about somethings and the probability that Luna might be right.
“There he goes again, defending her. Protecting the image of the woman he’d always loved. Just get out. I’ll find my son and you’ll never be a part of his life.
I will let him know that the one whose seed made him is a scoundrel. Besides, giving his sperm, he has nothing else to offer him. He only loves his evil wife and the demon-like son she had. Get out, Richard Lester!” Luna Wesley yelled.
Luna rose up and pulled Richard by his wrist towards the door. He didn’t struggle with her but when she got to the door, he paused and wouldn’t move again.
Luna couldn’t pull him again and she let go of his hand and was going to open the door, when Richard pulled her abruptly, turned her to face him. Without a premonition that he would do that, Luna couldn’t hold back her stamina.
She fell right into his chest and Richard circled his hands around her. A quietness followed that none of them was ready to interrupt. It seemed to them like it was in their younger days, that the past was repeating itself.
The past memories flashed through their minds. The parties, the clubs, their kisses, the love making, the night together in the woods, the fun on the grasslands on full moon, everything and many more flashed through their minds.
Richard still held her in his arms, Luna remained still against his chest, his body scent, still the same. She’d always been like this in his arms, her head barely reaching his jaw, it was like that back then, and it was still so.
They were both stilled, a kind of chemistry flooding through them both. They should have been together since, they should have grown old together. But circumstances separated them, evil people severed their relationship and put them apart, very far apart.
Richard raised her chin to make her stare at him. They both stared at each other, eyes locked, the emotions flowed from her eyes and he couldn’t hold back.
He gently bent over, she didn’t move, she remained still, he thought she would push him off, that she would dodge it, but she didn’t until his lips crashed on hers…
