She sighed softly and wanted to shut the door when he placed a foot forward, obstructing her, and blocking the door.
“What do you want?” She demanded. She doesn’t want issues with anyone. She just wants to live her life peacefully, find her son and live happily ever after, of course that’s after she’d get revenge on the one who made her end up in jail.
“You” Richard replied and stepped forward. He had to stalk her and know where she lives. He needs to see her and talk to her again.
Luna Wesley just turned around and walked away from the door, leaving it open. Richard took another step in, leaving his bodyguard and chauffeur behind.
Luna Wesley just sank into the sofa. Many years have passed and they meet again for the second time, staying at such close proximity. She expected that she would feel repulsive by merely sighting him but no, she’s not feeling anything like that.
“You have five minutes to stay here. And your time starts now” Luna declared, her arms folded across her chest and her eyes fixed on the clock.
Richard sighed softly. Where will he begin from? A guilty conscience needs not to be accused before feeling the weight of his wrongs.
“How are you Luna?” He asked and the latter didn’t respond. Her eyes fixed still on the clock. What is his business with how she is? If she’s not feeling alright, what can he do about it?
“I didn’t know you were out of prison. I’m happy to see you again. I’m glad you’ve been found innocent. I knew you were innocent, I know you couldn’t possibly do what you were accused and charged with…” Richard stuttered.
Seeing that she’s not responding, he continued “I’m here for you now. If you ever need my help, you can come to me. Just trust me…”
When Richard muttered the words “just trust me” he paused, a part of him was screaming so loud that his heart was beating faster than normal.
Luna was shocked when she heard the last three words he uttered, she turned herself to glare at him speechless and as if Richard felt the weight of those words, he looked away, avoiding her gaze.
Did he say she should just trust him? Did she really hear those words correctly? Did he know the magnitude of the weight that word “trust” carries?
He promised to help her get out of jail. He promised to get her lawyers to vindicate her, he told her to trust him, just like he just did and she believed him.
She was at ease, hoping that her boyfriend would find a way to go about it. He wasn’t wealthy then, but he was an average person from a satisfied level of societal status.
But while waiting, a few months passed and she didn’t see him again. When she would hear things about him, he was getting married to Anna Lester.
And now, he said she should trust him? Wow, that word had probably lost its meaning. Was she born a fool that she would ever trust him?
“I…I meant, you should just talk to me and we’ll find a way to sort things out” Richard stammered. How could he have forgotten the abandonment?
Before Luna Wesley could announce to him that his time was up, he did it himself “I’m leaving. But you can always reach me from here” he said and left his card on the arm of the sofa he sat on and walked out.
Richard didn’t dare to look behind. He got into his car and shut the door before he took a deep breath. Gosh, how can he be so insincere to Luna to remind her of his failure by asking her to trust him?
All the past trust she had in him, what did he do to meet up with it. He feels so guilty and bad about what he said a while ago.
As soon as the door shut, Luna Wesley stood up, bolted the door and stood by the window gazing out and watching the car zoom off.
He said she should trust him, yeah, trust was the word he used. She’d rather trust the devil than Richard.
The entire night, Richard couldn’t sleep. He left his room and went to check on Anna in her room. She was sleeping but her breathing was not normal. He hopes her condition gets better someday.
He sat down and watched over her. Does she still remember Luna Wesley, her rival? Or better still, her husband’s ex-girlfriend. She’d always see Luna as one. The one he first fell in love with and dated was Luna.
But somehow, Anna came in. It wasn’t a double dating back then, but somehow, it appeared so. He didn’t get involved in a sexual relationship with her, they were friends, friends with special feelings attached though.
They shared kisses at a time. But that was all. He saw it as cheating and he didn’t do it again. Everything went back to normal until Luna was accused one day of being responsible for a patient’s death.
She was with him the entire night and by morning, the accusation followed. And it went on until she was charged with murder, a young promising medical doctor.
Anna got closer shortly after that and the rest is history. He became committed to his marriage especially when he discovered that they were expecting Adrian.
He was in close contact with her lawyer until one day, the lawyer told him that she had refused him getting involved with her case. He could guess why: she’d known about his marriage to Anna.
“Richard…” Anna’s weak voice brought Richard out of his reverie. She felt pressed and opened her eyes to find her husband seated. His gaze on her but he wasn’t seeing her, his mind had travelled far.
Richard forced a smile and came over to her. Why are the servants not somewhere close to offer help and assistance? Anna is really weak, unable to do anything all by herself.
She looked so pale and fragile and thin. A shadow of her former self. Her hair has greatly fallen off and she has resorted to carrying very low hair which is scanty on her skull.
“Are you okay?” Richard asked and almost immediately, regretted asking such a question. How can he look at his once beautiful wife turned into this skinny woman and still ask her if she’s alright.
How can she be alright?
